The thriving old market town of Le Bugue, with its historic lanes and buildings, creates an interesting ambiance. The bustling Tuesday market provides the holidaymaker with all the sights and smells one associates with life in France, and is just two minutes walk from the house. In the town there are all amenities including a butcher, banks, restaurants, café's, supermarket, pharmacies, bakers, etc.
Le Bugue is situated in the Perigord Noir part of the Dordogne, famous for its good food and wine, a gourmet's delight. The Vézère valley is steeped in history, (and pre-history) having been inhabited for many thousands of years. The countryside is stunning, with wooded hillsides and shaded river valleys. The old towns of Sarlat, Bergerac and Perigueux are all nearby, and each has its own individual character and charm. There is much to do and see, numerous chateaux are open to the public.
Within the town there is Village de Bournat (a living museum of bygone days), the Aquarium du Périgord Noir, and several interesting caves and underground caverns to visit.
Nearby are the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat and the famous Lascaux cave drawings at Montignac.
Les Eyzies is only 15 minutes drive away, and there are a wealth of pretty Bastide towns in the area.
The Dordogne and Vezere valleys provide some stunning views and scenery with wonderful walking and cycling trails. The area allows you to do a lot or absolutely nothing!

Chez Dix-Neuf ticked all our boxes for a great stay in the Dordogne by two couples from Australia. The house lacks nothing and the terrace overlooking the river is a marvellous place for evening drinks after a long day out.
Its location just a short walk from the town centre is very convenient. The house was spotless when we arrived and it was good to be met by Mike and Toni who gave us lots of information and advice about the area. The air conditioning was wonderful in the hot weather we experienced in May.
All in all a fabulous place in a fabulous part of the world and we would strongly recommend staying here.
Guest rating:
Chez Dix-Neuf is exceptionally well appointed. The kitchen is very well equipped, both bathrooms are luxurious, and the lounge and dining area is spacious and comfortable. The terrace has beautiful views of the river Vezere, and the sun blind is a god-send - it gets very hot indeed in the afternoons. Mike and Toni, the owners, met us on arrival, were very helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed. It is a two minute walk to the town centre, with all facilities including a large supermarket. While we were there, lots was going on in the town, and there was a lively atmosphere. The market on Tuesday mornings is excellent. The only downside is that the house is on a busy main road, and you have to park your car a fair way away, but this was more than compensated for by the excellence of the house and river terrace.Guest rating:
We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday in this lovely house, in the well-appointed town of Le Bugue. We had been to France before but never to the Dordogne. It's the best accommodation we have stayed in whilst in France - we were given a warm welcome by the owners when we arrived, which got the holiday off to a good start. There's plenty to do in and around this pretty town, and lots of places to eat, food shopping and markets all within easy reach too. We will certainly be going back. We also found great riding stables at Les Eyzies de Tayac called Fonluc, which just made our daughter's holiday.Guest rating:
Chez Dix-Neuf is a beautiful, well proportioned, immaculate and perfectly positioned house on the river in the centre of Le Bugue. There are plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance as well as some wonderful day trips. Mike and Toni make you feel welcome and the 'book of words' (our term) gives detailed information on how to get the most out of the house as well as the local area. We had a front row seat for the annual fireworks display and spent many hours relaxing on the terrace watching the canoes and kayaks pottering down the river. The house has all the amenities you could imagine needing and fulfilled the needs of our disparate group - younger and older. The drive from Bergerac airport to Le Bugue is easy to master even if, like us, you are used to driving on the 'correct' side of the road!! I would highly recommend a holiday to Chez Dix-Neuf whether you want to see the sites or relax with a glass of wine while soaking up the genuine atmosphere of a small, traditional town in the heart of the Dordogne.
Guest rating:
Excellent rental with a superb terrace overlooking the river. The house is very clean with all the facilities you could possibly want, including English TV, Internet and a very good selection of books and films. Very helpful owners. We stayed for three weeks and will certainly be returning, can highly recommend.

This is a fabulous tardis of a property, beautifully located, carefully restored and very well equipped; every detail has been thoroughly considered. Most of the spacious, light, airy rooms have gorgeous views over the river as does the delightful south facing terrace... a wonderful place to relax at any time of day! Le Bugue is a bustling town, full of life and good French living! There are plenty of lovely restaurants; our favourite was Oscar's - good honest food at very reasonable prices and approximately four doors away! We thoroughly enjoyed every second of our holiday here and will definitely return! Thank you Mike and Toni for such a warm welcome and for such a gorgeous holiday let. Perfect!Guest rating:
The property is well located in the centre of the village, although being on the riverside also gives you the benefit of feeling the peace and tranquillity of a rural setting. The owners have put a great deal of care and thought into the comfort and needs of their guests and provide everything required for a great holiday. The rooms are light and spacious, including the bathrooms, and you feel very much at home. The south facing sun terrace is superb allowing for all day Al Fresco dining if required. While there is not any on site parking at the house this is not a problem as there is ample free parking a few foot steps away.
We stayed a week with a mixture of visiting local attractions and relaxing. Whether you want an activity holiday or a place to relax you will find this property has everything you need.
