For your total chill out zone - come and get Chatoxed! You can also goole le chatox to see our reviews on Tripadvisor.

Things to do inside the chalet
WiFi throughout. There is a comprehensive ‘Chatox’ book on things to see and do and we encourage you to add to this for future guests. The open plan living area is large and with 8 of us there last summer, we never felt overcrowded or on top of each other. The L sofa and double sofa seat 8 comfortably and there’s also the rocking chair and guitar if you fancy a strum and sing along after dinner and wine! There’s a patio to the rear with garden and sun loungers to while away the hazy heat of the alpine summer with a cool drink and the most stunning view of of your own mountain right in front of you! You will find: board games, chess and card games for children as well as the TV/DVD player with ipod docking and video library for wet play or quiet nights in. There is a collection of books and local maps and info on what’s on in the area to plan your itinerary. The wood burning stove will keep you cosy in winter along with the underfloor heating.
In the ‘cave’ below we also have tennis, badminton, volley ball, beach equipment all for your use should you need it. We also have a competition table tennis table. and Darts with Chatox Oche for the serious.
Whilst we now have wifi, passing time soaking in the amazing view, with some melancholy music and a glass as the fire crackles is surely more preferable….??

This was our 3rd visit to this lovely chalet, set in the hills of Le Massiff de Bauges in the charming village of Le Chatelard. We spent a very relaxing week in “Le Chatox” in the middle of July, enjoying the fabulous scenery, the weather (around 30'C every day), and the beautiful view of “booby” mountain that you see from the balcony. Le Chatox has everything you need, whether you want to relax and stay in or around the chalet, or make the most of seeing the local area by using the ebicycles which are available for hire from the owners. We used them to ride to another village: Lescharaines, where there is a lovely lake that you can swim in and another for water sports. We also cycled around the local area – the ebikes coming in very handy on the hilly roads. There are some great walks in the area. We walked from Lescharaine to Le Cascade Pissieu and on another occasion we walked along the river near to the village of Aillon-le-Vieux. The highlight of our holiday was visiting the lovely old town of Annecy, hiring a boat on Lac Annecy and swimming in the lake. But we also went to Albertville, Chambery, Aix-le-Bains, Lac Bourget, Chanaz and Yvoire, all of which are well worth a visit.Guest rating:
Just back from a fantastic fortnight at le Chatox with the Family. We took advantage of lots that the region has to offer. Swimming in lake Annecy and the local lake at Lescheraines; Cycle rides, boat trips and walks in the mountains. And Trips to local attractions including Gorges du Fier, Chateau Montrottier, and summer activities at the ski resorts. We also got plenty of relaxing in at the Chalet, Making the most of the mountain views. And we appreciated the book and cd collection too! Thanks to Paul and Wendy for help with making all the logistics so smooth.Guest rating:
We arrived at Le Chatox on 30th December to a beautiful snowscape. It is a wonderful, comfortable and well equipped home from home, to spend a great new year break with friends. Skiing in Margeriaz and Less Aillons, both just a short drive away, was fantastic with great snow. Owners Paul and Wendy have thought of everything to make your stay memorable including bicycles and even electric bikes for the less fit! Le Chatox is an ideal base for exploring the region, either on foot, by bike or car!
We visited the beautiful town of Annecy, which is a must for any visitor to the area, with it's lake and waterways which flow through the town and Aix le Bain, where the Thermal Spa was a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon! We have now visited Le Chatox in both summer and winter. Each was wonderful for different reasons, but the common denominator was the welcome we received. We will definitely be back again soon and would recommend to all.Guest rating:
Le Chatox Chalet has everything you need......and more!!! Even down to crockery and cutlery ie not just one set of everything!!! The booklet that Wendy and Paul have put together for their guests is so useful with recommendations on where to visit, walks to try and ideas for activities nearby. Even on the days where the sun doesn't shine there are a great selection of books, DVD's games etc (better stocked than at my home!) The main living area is open plan which is very sociable and what with plenty to do indoors and out this holiday has a so much to offer. Not forgetting the amazing views from balcony's, outside eating terrace and pretty much all around. A handy utility room allowed us to keep on top of washing so there was less to do when we got home. WiFi has recently been added which allowed us all to keep in touch with friends and family. Well deserved of my 5 star rating. Thanks Wendy and Paul :-)

We recently stayed at Le Chatox for a week with 3 other couples. As we arrived at the Chatox and begun to explore the chalet we were treated to an amazing view from the balcony which we would wake up to every day! The living spaces were bright and spacious, bedrooms well sized and the whole place clean throughout. The table tennis and darts were especially a hit on days when we chose to relax and stay in for the day. The local area is beautiful and picturesque as is the region as a whole and the Chatox was a perfect base to explore whether it be a local walk or driving to any of the nearby villages/towns as well as venturing into Annecy. Paul and Wendy were amazingly helpful throughout and their suggestion of restaurant for the last evening at Hotel Clarines certainly went down very well! We all went home thoroughly relaxed and full of wine and cheese! Thanks Paul and Wendy!
Guest rating:
The property is excellent 4 good size bedrooms, well kitted out kitchen for those meals when you eat in and even games for those wet afternoons (table tennis in the cave). Plenty to do with walks up and around the local peaks. Cycles available if you are up to it. I can recommend hiring an electric bike to assist with the uphills if you are not quite Froome standard, they really make a difference and you get to see the magnificent scenery. We spent 2 days down at Lake Annecy, hired a boat and in Sept is beautifully warm and clear to swim in. The Visitors Book is full of ideas and trips that others have made and you can spend time following up on adventure trails or just discovering local restaurants they have listed. The best bit is sitting out on the balcony in the evening with cheese, bread, and wine and watch 'Booby Mountain' as the sun sets...very relaxing. Thank you, Paul and Wendy, you have a beautiful home from home, very welcoming and easy to relax into.

We had an amazing 12 nights at Le Chatox. The accommodation cannot be faulted it was well equipped, comfortable and clean. The location was perfect for easy access to Lake Annecy and Lac du Bourget. Some superb mountain cycle routes which amazing views of Mont Blanc. The Chalet is also perfect for relaxing days with a great balcony and patio area and local walks/cycle rides. With 2 teenage children, the table tennis table was a bonus and they even got the chess board out!!! We hired a motorboat and pedalos at Lake Annecy and Chatillon at Lac du Bourget, cycled around Lake Annecy, had some great meals in Annecy in the evenings as well as 4 hours of zip wiring, climbing ladders and walking across platforms across the valley at Allions-Margeriaz 1000!
We would love to visit Le Chatox in the winter and try out some of the local skiing!Guest rating:
Our family are very much francophiles and widely traveled across France over the last 30 years. This location and accommodation are gems to be explored. The chalet is second to none, a superbly equipped, home from home, with all mod cons and a perfect mountain outlook. The owners have taken considerable care to facilitate visitors to advantage. We enjoyed high mountain viewing and walking via ski lifts(Mont Pelat/ Mont Revard), lakeside walks, high-quality cycling, swimming, canoeing, returning for self-catered evening meals using the excellent kitchen and dining areas. Lakes Annecy and Bourget and local environs within 30/40 minutes cater for all needs and ages. Unreserved highly recommended.
Guest rating:
Can't fault Le Chatox, loads of room in a holiday let that feels so homely. For a family with children (age 13 and 10) it was great....swimming in the lakes, walking cross country for a picnic, sightseeing in historic villages, canal trips and at the end of the day a chalet to come home to and relax. We all loved it!

This has it all. A fabulous house in a wonderful location. What a hidden beauty. We walked, cycled around Lake Annecy and generally explored.. . oh and spent quite a lot of money in the lovely shops in Annecy! What made it special was returning to Le Chatox at the end of the day to a comfortable and superbly equipped home from home. Opening the red wine and taking in the fabulous wall to wall views from the balcony or lounge. Wendy and Paul make it extra special and easy, making sure that you have all the information you could possibly need before you go and when you are there. It is really not surprising that people return again and again and this will be the first of many visits I am sure. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

This is our second stay at Le Chatox. This is a very well equipped and comfortable house that is also smart and nicely designed. Our main activities on holiday are walking and for me road cycling. This is a great location for both. There are some great walks both demanding, mildly challenging and more leisurely in a truly beautiful part of France and the Alpes. The views from the summit walks are breathtaking. Rides can be started from the house which is described in the house information and marked up on maps by the owner who is a keen cyclist. My rides I kept to around 1.5 to 2.5 hours and the scenery is spectacular. The Tour went through the village in 2013 and you can do parts of, or all of the stage if you are up for it! The house sits on the edge of the town of Le Chatelard which has a convenient supermarket, filling station and few restaurant options nearby. Chez Cyril in Le Noyer is particularly good. I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation which is appointed to high standards.
Guest rating:
We have now stayed here 4 times, and for a very good reason - it's a lovely place to stay! The house is modern, spotlessly clean and very well-equipped, and the view from the balcony is fantastic. You can sit-out in the sun all day, then take-in fantastic views of the night sky. It is in a great location for walking and relaxing, and the cycling is brilliant. Lots of tough routes on the doorstep, but, equally, there are many easier rides to be had. We visited Annecy twice whilst we were there, and it is such a lovely town in a stunning location. Market day is very busy, but parking is easy, and it is a great 20-mile ride around the lake. The swimming lake is only a 5-minute drive from the house, and there are plenty of good quality restaurants nearby. It really is a great place to stay for families or couples, and we are already planning a return in the near future.

We've just spent a fantastic week staying at Le Chatox. It was our first family trip to the area, and there was something for everyone. The kids loved the swimming in the nearby lake and taking advantage of the games at the chalet. Mum loved visiting the local towns, especially Annecy. Whilst Dad found the cycling out of this world. Le Chatox truly was a home from home, with everything you could need to make your stay perfect. I'm already missing having a glass of wine on the balcony, looking out across the mountains....

We have just returned from a wonderful two family fortnight at Le Chatox - eight of us in total. The accommodation was superb, exactly as described, spacious, spotless, welcoming and very easy to find from the directions provided. After absorbing the wonderful mountain-view setting and enjoying the clean alpine air we all settled in very quickly in this fabulous home from home with everything we needed for a relaxing base for our holiday. We had very good weather on the whole with the 35 degree high finally breaking with a dramatic thunderstorm which was phenomenal to watch from the comfort of the chalet. On that one day of rain Le Chatox provided table tennis, darts, a cupboardful of games and a selection of DVDs to keep everyone entertained. Temperatures settled around 25 - 28 degrees and we set about exploring and experiencing the area. Between us we cycled (including following a stage of Le Tour de France), walked (Cascade du Pissieu and Chapelle St Bernard) swam and water skied at Lescheraines Lakes, swam and sailed at Lake Annecy on numerous occasions, flew through the trees at Aillon Station Ski Resort (ski-lift up and zip wires and tree-top walkways down - great fun for children and adults alike!), enjoyed the spectacular views from Semnoz, learned about the art of the Chocolatier, shopped in Old Annecy Town and of course at the local Carrefour, especially when we chose to simply relax at Le Chatox and enjoy the weather, the peace and the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed a number of barbecues at Le Chatox and also ate out in Annecy, at Lescheraines and Lake Annecy benefitting from recommendations from Paul and Wendy - our favourite was Chez Ma Cousine by the water in Doussard. We will definitely return to Le Chatox and we would highly recommend Le Chatox for a fantastic summer holiday.
Guest rating:
We stayed at the Le chatox for 8 nights in June 2015 and had a wonderful time. When we stayed here about 5 years ago, we did a fly/drive via Geneva airport, but this time we went by car which was fairly straightforward (if you stick to the toll roads). The owner gave us very good directions which were very helpful for the last part of the journey. Le Chatox is a lovely holiday chalet set on a hill overlooking a valley with 2 mountain peaks in the background which make for a stunning view from the chalet balcony. Although it may seem remote and can only be reached by car, you are rewarded by being in a fantastic rural location with breathtaking scenery. It is part of the village of Le Chatelard - one of 12 villages in Les Bauges. We took the opportunity to do lots of walking and went swimming in a local lake at Lescheraines, visited Annecy (make sure you go there on a market day!), hired a boat on the lake as well as swimming in the lake, visited Aix Les Bains and another lake: Lac Bauget. There is no shortage of things to do and places to see! Cycling is very popular around this area, so if you're a keen cyclist and like some challenging climbs, this is the place to come! Le Chatox is a very comfortable chalet with plenty of room and is very well equipped. The owners went out of their way to ensure our stay here was memorable. We will definitely go there again.
Guest rating:
We spent nine nights here as a group of two families with young children on their first skiing holiday during the first week of Easter. We drove which we found surprisingly easy. Le Chatox was absolutely perfect for our group and had plenty of space for the children to play (including table tennis and darts) and for us to relax in the evenings and everything you could possibly need in a holiday home. Paul had sent us all of the information we needed beforehand but was also available to talk through the arrangements for our ski lessons (with Muriel from ESF who was great) and equipment hire (from Christian and Marie from Aillon Sport, also great). We only skied at Margeriaz which is 20 minutes away by car (Paul had already told us that the lower Les Aillons would be closed) which was brilliant for the four beginners and absolutely fine for the fairly rusty two intermediates. The children (10, 9 and 6) took to skiing straight away and loved it. There are many other ski areas accessible by car, including Val Thorens, but we didn't venture far. Despite rain for one day (it was the last week of the season) the skiing conditions were great and the pistes were empty even at the weekend. We didn't have to queue once for the ski lifts and as it was the last week the ski passes were only 12 Euro's each per day. Everyone at Margeriaz (and elsewhere) were very friendly and we particularly enjoyed lunches at La Bergerie. There were some language barriers (we speak very little French) but we got by without too much bother. As we had small children who were exhausted we ate in every evening and the Carrefour supermarket in Le Chatelard had everything we needed. We took snow chains but didn't come close to needing them. Don't use your in-car DVD player on the train (we did and had to be jump started) and don't take the wrong turning and end up in Geneva in rush hour like us! All in all we had a fantastic time and have already booked to go back in the February half term next year.
