We have four individual self-catering cottages (gîtes), two with two bedrooms, one with three bedrooms, and one with four bedrooms. The gîtes are set with our home in five acres of the Pyrénéan foothills, bordered by a pretty stream, and benefit from our 10x5m pool, table tennis, table-football, boule court, free wi-fi etc.
Burgundy is an individual villa sleeping 6 people with all rooms arranged on one level. Burgundy benefits from a private South-facing terrace and barbecue for alfresco dining.
The gite consists of:
- A large fully-fitted kitchen (with dishwasher and washing machine). The patio windows from the kitchen lead out to the terrace and have electric shutters (to keep the gîte cool in Summer). Adjoining the kitchen is:
- The large lounge/dining room with a log-burning stove and superb views - down the valley to the West, and through the village to the Pyrenees in the South. The lounge also has patio windows leading on to the terrace, a separate dining area, and a large picture window overlooking the gardens and stream.
- One double bedroom
- Two twin bedrooms
- Two fully tiled bathrooms, one with a twin washbasin vanity unit, shower, bath, and WC, the second with a shower, washbasin and WC.
- Table tennis, table football, giant connect 4 in the covered games barn

We are on the edge of a pretty village, ten minutes from the medieval town of Mirepoix, with its restaurants, cafes, weekly market and summer festivals. Carcassonne, the 3rd most popular tourist attraction in France, is 30 minutes. Our regional leisure lake Lac de Montbel, with 1500 acres of water, beach and restaurant, is ten minutes away. The Mediterranean beaches are one hours drive. The extensive vineyards of the Languedoc are within 30 minutes. Extensive walking, cycling and angling, boating, and horse riding is available 'on the doorstep' in the Pyrenees and the Medieval Chateaux of the Cathars surround the area - Montsegur, the 'last stronghold' is 20 minutes away.
The medieval town of Mirepoix is a tourist gem in the area and we are lucky to be so close. Mirepoix has a 13th century cathedral (with the second widest nave in Europe!), and a timbered 'bastide' square around which there are bars, cafes, restaurants (there are over 20 in the town), boutique shops and the essentials of bakers, butchers, fishmonger and so on. The town has an excellent weekly market on a Monday morning and many events taking place during the summer. It also has a SuperU supermarket and Aldi with everything you need.
We are 10 minutes drive from the largest inland lake in the South West of France - Lac de Montbel is a 1500 acre man-made reservoir created in the 1980's to hold water for refilling the Canal du Midi. The lake provides sheltered and safe conditions for all types of beach activity, it has several beaches, one of which has a lakeside brasserie and a lifeguard in attendance during the Summer. Lac de Montbel also offers a full range of watersports. We are an hour from the Mediterranean beaches.
Our village nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees. 400m above sea level, but with the 3000m peaks 20 mins drive away.
Every active sport you can think of is on the doorstep, from paragliding to hill walking via watersports. The Tour de France passes close by and the area is a favourite for cyclists and mountain bikers. We are an hour from the Mediterranean beaches, and enjoy a mild climate.
For those that prefer a gentler pace, the roads are quiet and the scenery is spectacular - you can tour the mountains from the comfort of the driving seat! We have many driving and walking tours; vineyards to visit; weekly markets; wildlife and wild flowers (esp. the orchids in spring / early summer).
For foodies, Mirepoix (at 10mins) has over 20 restaurants to suit all tastes.

How to get to Gite Burgundy
The majority of our guests fly into Toulouse or Carcassonne as these are the closest to us, we are:
- 30 minutes from Carcassonne airport.
- 1 hr from Toulouse.
- 2 hr 30 from Perpignan.
- 2 hrs 30 from Montpellier.
- 3 hrs 30 from Barcelona (Girona).
- 4 hrs 30 from Barcelona (International).
It usually takes about eleven hours to drive from Calais or St Malo or ten hours from Caen or Le Havre. These times are from the ferry to here at L'Enclos, excluding stops.

We hadn't been to France for a number of years so decided, on the spur of the moment, to fly to Carcassonne and rent the Gite Burgundy for a week. It was a great choice, totally spotless and we loved the verandah, which we ate all our meals on. There was also an excellent pool, which was just as well as the weather was very hot ! What we hadn't anticipated was how much was going on round about... Perhaps we were lucky, but there was an excellent Friday evening food-market in Leran, close by, a concert in Limbrassac itself on the Saturday evening, a wonderful market selling brilliant examples of 'vannerie' (basket-making) in the village on the Sunday and a great market in Mirepoix (15 mins. drive) on the Monday morning. Highly recommended - and our hosts were very knowledgeable without being 'in your face'...

Our third visit.
We had another highly enjoyable week. This time, as well as multiple bike rides and walks, we spent time at the lake, visited the underground river at de Labouiche, climbed up to Montsegur (highly recommended) and visited the evening food market in Leran. We find new things to do here every time!Guest rating:
First for the year again! And it is us again now 4th and 6th holiday at L'Enclos, returning to the relaxing comfort of the gite and the excellent support of Kath and Dave.
Mirepoix remains our favourite place for relaxing coffees + eating + of course the Monday market.
Lovely trip as per suggestion in folder up to Revel + St Ferriol.
Trip over Col de Pailheres thwarted by road closure, but the scenery is stunning wherever!
As usual equine and canine company was most enjoyable and lovely to meet Blue. Our love and thanks.

Had a fantastic time - cannot beat sitting on the terrace in the sun looking at the snow on the mountains. Even at its busiest time there was parking at Carcassonne and plenty of seats to stop for a drink and a glace.
We visited some of the Cathar castles. Montsegur looked more daunting than it actually was and the views were amazing with Eagles flying beneath the castle - take a picnic and go out the 'back door'.
After Montsegur, Queribus and Peyrepertuse are easy climbs - even on a hot day the wind at the top of Queribus means the rope is not merely for decoration.
Limoux is not much of a town, but we thoroughly recommend the wine tasting, especially at Sieur d'Arques where there is a little museum and the staff are very friendly and encourage everyone to try lots.
Went canoeing from Couiza on the Aude which included quite a lot of white water and an unexpected swim - the managers speak excellent english there so a full safety brief is given.
Loved Mirepoix - the square has a great atmosphere all times of the day + especially at the Celtic fesat. The pizzas at Super U were the best - also had a bad experience elsewhere.
The gite itself was excellent - great swimming, walking and playing games. Dave and Kath were perfect hosts, always around but not in your face. Lastly, Cassie, puss and the rest of the village cats who came to visit - we'll miss you.

Additional price notes
From 1/1/2019 we are required to collect and pass on to the French treasury a ‘taxe de sejour’ (bed tax) from all of our guests, this is levied as 7.2% of the cost of the accommodation.
You are welcome to bring your pets with you on holiday provided we know in advance. The cost for each pet is €25 per stay.
