The Lavender Barn is located between the Montagne de Lure and the Luberon in the unspoilt village of Lardiers. This is a perfect base for travellers exploring this beautiful area of Provence. Within the region, one can sample world-class wines, wander through fields of lavender and sunflowers, shop in the many open-air markets, enjoy outdoor activities such as cycling, swimming, paragliding and hiking, or simply explore the countless medieval villages in the area.
Places within easy reach are the towns of Forcalquier, Manosque, Apt and Sisteron, with their museums and medieval architecture. From this central Provence location day trips to Avignon, Aix en Provence, Marseille and many other internationally renowned places are within easy reach. The owners will recommend tour routes in the region, that include Jabron-Sisteron, Gorges Verdon-Grand Canyon, the Luberon hill top villages, the Chateaux wine run, Aix en Provence, Marseille, Avignon and many more.
There are many potters with shops in the villages and towns of Provence selling terra-cotta cookware, brightly coloured olive jugs, dishes and plates with their warm Mediterranean glazes. Lavender perfume, lavender honey, lavender soaps and bouquets are for sale at many of the local markets along with decorative objects carved from the hard wood olive trees that grow throughout the region. L’Isle-sur-la Sorgue is a favoured location for buying antiques, with it’s crystal clear river edged with moss covered waterwheels running through the town, it is home to the largest antique market in France out side of Paris. The shops and street markets are open on Sunday and purchases can be shipped all over the world.
There are appellations in Provence; Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vaqueras are all well known international names. The Luberon wines are less well known but are excellent value and can be purchased at most wine stores and Chateaux throughout the region. There are many local cheeses on sale in the area. The most famous is the Banon goat cheese which is wrapped in chestnut leaves and is a mix of strength and softness. It is best eaten with a rustic bread and one of the local wines.
The village of Lardiers has a wide choice of walking and hiking activities in the immediate area, some easy and others quite challenging but always with wonderful views There are a very large number of ancient typical Provençal towns and villages within ½ an hour’s drive from Lardiers, many perched on top of hills surrounded by the remains of their fortified ramparts overlooking the country side below. There are a whole host of performers, providing entertainment, including dancers, stilt walkers, jugglers, clowns, magicians and poetry readings. Saint Michel l’Observatoire has been chosen as a strategic astronomy observatory due to its situation under the pure skies of Provence. Night observations of stars and day observations of the sun are offered to individuals or groups once a month during the summer.

A lovely gite - one of the best we’ve stayed in - in a great location. The gite is extremely comfortable and had everything we needed for a stay that included some great walking, eating and drinking! The weather was a bit changeable while we were there and the owners, Mike and Rosie, were very good at checking we were comfortable, as well as providing some good local information and suggestions for walks and visits. We would highly recommend!Guest rating:
We loved our stay at this stylish, comfortable converted lavender barn. The welcome was warm and relaxed with our hosts providing information and tips to make our stay a memorable one. The property combines the rustic French charm of the area with modern conveniences for a relaxed visit. The shower/wet room was a real treat as was the comfy bed with a view over the village rooftops through the open French Windows - ideal for watching the swifts swooping across the clear blue skies while having our morning cuppa! The kitchen was well equipped and the laundry room facilities were quick and easy. The pretty courtyard was great for chilling out with dinner and a bottle or two of the local wine. So many walks from the village and drives or day trips to choose from! We walked through lavender fields taking in the fantastic aroma and colours, admired the many wild flowers and beautiful butterflies and even heard a cuckoo! Mike & Rosi's recommendations were spot-on and we particularly loved the Jabron valley route to Sisteron, watching the eagles soaring above the citadel and the Grand Canyon at the Gorges of Verdon was breathtaking. The restaurant at Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon was superb with stunning views. Lavender and so much more!Guest rating:
We hope your guests have as much fun as we had in Lardiers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lardiers in June 2013 & would have no hesitation in recommending your accommodation. The bedroom & wet room were particularly appealing & the kitchen well supplied with necessary equipment. Lardier's situation is ideal as there are so many delightful hilltop villages to be found within 30 - 40 minutes drive. The scenery around is wonderful and ideal for those who enjoy walking. - Paths are well marked. Banon & Forcalquier are both interesting towns with good shopping.

Clean warm and cosy lodging. Owners just as warm!
We stayed 2 wks from 21/12/12 till 04/12/13. Mike & Rosi, the owners of the gite, were very warm and welcoming and made sure that our stay was the best it could be... and it was indeed. We have never stayed in a holiday accommodation in such a great condition. Everything was super comfortable and super clean. Description of ad is accurate and you get it all (and more). Will stay again if holidaying in the region, and I would recommend it to anyone.

We had a most enjoyable stay in Lardiers. The accommodation is excellent, we couldn't think of anything lacking. A lovely bedroom, modern bathroom with great shower and very well equipped kitchen/dining area. All home comforts!
We loved the village, and enjoyed a superb local meal across the road at the Bistro. Nearby, Banon is delightful with all necessary shopping and cafes and we were able to walk and cycle on the quiet lanes. Fantastic! Lots more to explore that we didn't get round to. Shouldn't forget - friendly hosts Rosi and Mike next door. Always good to know that someone with local knowledge is nearby in case of emergencies. best wishes and thank you for having us. Jenny and Don Thomas. Pontefract, Yorks.

It is our pleasure to highly recommend La Grange De La Lavande, absolutely wonderful accommodation in the quaint village of Lardiers, France, where we stayed for ten days this past September, 2013. Since we both looked forward to cooking the odd evening meal with everything purchased fresh on village market days, the spacious kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, all high end. The large antique table served both for eating as well as an area to spread out maps, routes and travel guides to plan our next day's excursion. The private outdoor patio, enclosed by stone walls and planters, was fabulous for sitting at the table with a glass of wine, some cheese and french bread at the end of the day - a heavenly sanctuary. The bedroom was beautifully appointed with two large armoires and a very comfortable king-sized bed. The bed linens and towels again, all high end. We were able to open the large bedroom shutters to catch the quiet ambiance of Lardiers. The bathroom had everything we required - lots of hot water, a great shower and a toilette with a good flush (which sometimes is a luxury in Europe!) This prime location was a perfect base for exploring entire Provence, with the village of Banon, famous for its cheese and market, only a ten minute drive. Avignon, Arles, Aix en Provence and Marseilles are easy day-trip drives as well. Mike and Rossi, the owners, were friendly, helpful and always ready to make recommendations for routes into the countryside, while at the same time respecting our privacy. They are a wealth of information and suggestions, right down to where to park. Again, we highly recommend this accommodation to anyone interested in exploring Provence, and we are looking forward to returning to La Grange De La Lavande again and again.
