A Renovated Holiday Home
2021 is a new year and things have changed. I still live on site but have a new puppy as the lock-down was too much to bear alone! The holiday home is still a dog free zone, sorry to disappoint fellow dog lovers.
The ride here is fabulous, whether you have driven from the airport at Nantes or Tours or driven from the ferry, the scenery is wonderful. Sometimes taking the route Nationale only adds a little extra to the ride but you will be rewarded with all that France has to offer, the countryside and the villages but maybe you cannot wait to get here and why not? Take the auto-route to this part of France, part of arriving is to unpack and then take a relaxing drink whilst you are shown around the property. We or me, will explain how your holiday home functions, whilst you take a drink of the local wine from our region.
Or if you wish walk up to the bar 100m away and take a cold beer.
We welcome you into the property personally, so that you will be familiar with the access, parking and features of our home.
Holidays are what you make them and exploring and discovering what the Loire has to offer requires a little planning because the French knew you were coming and have a thousand and one things to do. Perhaps think outside the box and make up a picnic hamper and sit along the river bank or take lunch in the park. I can recommend Peu de Fou, a medieval theme park about 90 minutes away towards Nantes, a superb day out but bring a sun hat, chateau's and more chateau's all of them different and all offering different experiences, shopping in Angers, Tours or Saumur to pick up those last minute 'French' gifts for the folks back at home.
Or if you wish to settle down, read a book or watch the world go by, then that is just the way to enjoy your holiday.
Your holiday is important to us so we want you to enjoy yourselves, please ask if there is anything we can do to make your stay more fun.
Our guests have come from Australia, South Africa, Romania, Ireland, Australia, Scotland, Italy, Greece and of course England, the holiday makers all say they enjoyed our place and we are sure you will too.

This year 2020 was a tough year for everyone, so why not take a break and visit us at Eugene Livet. We take yours and ours health security seriously, so this year there will be no back to back bookings, which will allow us to thoroughly clean through before your visit.
France is a beautiful country and it's beauty is in the space between cities and towns, we are extremely lucky to live in the Loire Vallee, with it's mighty river La Loire, along the river from the Ardeche to Nantes there are many beautiful Chateau properties. The chateau at Saumur set high on the hill overlooking the city is one of the features of the skyline, there are many others Villandry is especially interesting with it's garden and building, most are privately owned and many available for you to visit, a treat to see the French idea of a time gone by.
Vernantes is a lovely village, set upon the gentle slopes just above the beautiful city of Saumur. Once you visit Vernantes, you will find Eugene Livet centrally located in a side street as a perfect holiday home fully equipped to cater for you and your family.
After your journey we welcome you in with a glass of something local, either white or red, whilst we show you around, there is a welcome pack so no need to rush out immediately for the essentials.
A well-presented holiday home for up to 6 people or just a couple who can enjoy the area on foot, on a cycle or in the car. The cycling is very level and 30kms is easily done in just around 2 hours on a bike. This year bring your own bikes.
Within minutes you can be in any one of the bars or the restaurant in the Pelican Hotel, the village boasts a corner shop, two boulangeries, a florist, a beauty treatment salon, hairdressers, chemist, a library and a garage. Only 15 minutes walk there is a larger supermarket ideal for the weekly shop or if you prefer within 20 minutes drive to Saumur where there is an entire range of shops supermarkets, discount stores (Lidl & Aldi).
A day trip to any one of the theme parks at Puy du Fou, or Poitiers for Futuroscope a great day out to an extraordinary park. For those that enjoy wine tasting there is a dearth of wine producers all within 15 minutes by car to the rolling hills that produce some fabulous wines of the Loire. There are lakes and beaches where a day out picnicking and relaxing again all within 20 minutes and all away from the bustle of the city.
There is a splash pool if you like to make use of it, however there is no lifeguard facility, so children must be supervised. Or just sit and relax in the enclosed courtyard terrace or just in the garden reading a book. There are some raised beds of seasonal vegetables which are offered occasionally to our guests.
Beside some lovely Chateau's which really you must visit and many are along the Loire river, where kayaking, fishing, canoeing, sailing and pleasure trips are available.
For those looking for the excitement of Le Mans racing circuit we are only 70 kms away by a very easy route direct to Le Mans, via Noyant, Le Lude, Mulsanne and Allonnes.
Visiting Angers is a great day out, lovely shopping and fabulous eateries, take the tramway for a ride out of the city just to see it from a different perspective.

We booked this fairly last minute due to the Covid situation and found the communication very easy. When we arrived it was very clean and Tony even left us some essentials (including wine obviously!) The accommodation is lovely and very spacious. Everything has been thought of - lots of kitchenware and everything worked perfectly - some places we've rented before didn't even have salt and pepper. We didn't use the pool so much but it was definitely welcome when the temperature hit 40C. Tony was welcoming but not intrusive and allowed us to help ourselves to fresh produce from the garden which was delicious. There are so many things close by to do - Saumur, lots of chateaux, walks, Amboise, vineyards etc - that we will have to come back to see more. It was a lovely holiday and we don't hesitate to recommend this lovely place.Guest rating:
We stayed in this fabulous gite in August (2019) and could not fault it! It was furnished, decorated and equipped as a home would be and we simply wanted for nothing. We were a family of four adults and the accommodation was perfect, providing both privacy as well as chill out areas where we could socialise together. The location of the property was perfect for engaging in a range of activities: we enjoyed walking, canoeing, visiting sites of historical interest, wine tasting and eating out. Tony’s kitchen garden was full of delicious produce and the delicious Italian tomatoes featured in each meal we ate! We also enjoyed the welcome pack left for us and the instruction to help ourselves to the fruit, vegetables and herbs, which were abundant! We had such a fabulous time in Tony’s beautiful house that we will surely return!Guest rating:
Tony, the owner, welcomed us with a quick, unfussy, tour of the house, which is furnished, decorated and equipped like a real home rather than a holiday 'pad'. It was just up our street as a family of four adults, having plenty of space. The patio was great for lunches, and the splash pool down the garden was a great cooler on the hot days of July (of which there were many!). Tony was available but not intrusive , and shared the produce of his vegetable garden generously! We loved walking 2 mins. to the baker for bread or croissants before breakfast, in this ordinary little French village. If you want a taste of real France along with the more familiar comforts of a British home, this is for you.Guest rating:
We stayed here for a few days, wow, what a lovely house and Tony is so relaxed and easy going, most welcoming. The village is nice two wonderfull old churches a couple of local bars and a Hotel with a decent restaurant. The accomodation though, was above and beyond expectations and only around 15mins from Saumur. Thanks Tony for a great few days. AlastairGuest rating:
We stayed here as a family of three adults and two children and the house was absolutely brilliant for us all and Tony was a very discreet yet friendly and very helpful host (he lives in an adjacent property). The house was equipped with every conceivable thing you might need in a lovely calm and quiet village that is handily placed for many towns, vineyards and lake/river beaches (particularly recommend Bourgeil). We could not believe that this little gem was till available for our late booking - but others loss was definitely our gain. Would we stay again - you bet we would and without a moments hesitation.Guest rating:
Beautiful home with all the conveniences; decorated and furnished to a high standard; friendly and helpful owner; after day's outings visiting Loire valley chateaux and vineyards, or outings to Angers, Saumur, and Amboise, the house was so welcoming and comfortable. Highly recommended. Fay WilliamsGuest rating:
We enjoyed a late Summer break at Eugene Livet in September 2015. Tony made us very welcome and was a great host. The house is beautiful and we enjoyed all the comforts of home. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything a family could need. The village and area is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Loire. We particularly enjoyed the many mountain bike routes through the forests and farm lanes which would also suit anyone who enjoys hiking. Thanks again Tony.Guest rating:
We have just spent a lovely week at this superb property. The house is beautifully decorated and the modern kitchen has great appliances. The main bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed and a fantastic en-suite shower room. Tony was very welcoming on our arrival and supplied a very generous welcome pack. The house is in a lovely location in the village and is only a few minutes stroll from all the local amenities, and is a perfect base for visiting the likes of Saumur, Chinon and the wider Loire valley. Thanks again Tony and MarianaGuest rating:
My wife and I and mother-in-law have stayed at this property on two occasions and have been delighted at the total comfort and high-spec finish of the home. It's a delight to sit in the sitting room with the wood-burner going in the fireplace. The well-equipped kitchen and up-to-date appliances make it a pleasure to use. We had a dinner party in the dining room which easily accommodates eight, and again there is an open fireplace with wood-burner. The location gives easy access to Saumur, Angers, the Loire Valley etc. We received a very warm welcome and clear instructions on the use of the appliances. Beds were comfortable, great showers; we can strongly recommend a stay!
