Charming property with private pool in peaceful setting surrounded by vineyards and gorgeous chateaux nearby, 12km from famous St Emilion.
Situated at the heart of the famous Bordeaux vineyards, this property is a real haven of peace. Here you can enjoy sunbathing by the pool overlooking the vines or cool off under the covered terrace whilst also enjoying the surrounding views. Clients often comment on how they have enjoyed quiet times reading a book or just relaxing whilst taking in this beautiful part of the Bordeaux region.
This charming property is located amidst the Fronsac vineyards, 3km from Fronsac village and 5km from the bastide town of Libourne, which lies at the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers.
The villa itself has three bedrooms, an enclosed mezzanine with an additional bed and a bathroom on each level. There is ample space for eight people but the house can welcome up to six adults, four children and two infants. The verdant garden offers plenty of shade and the thick walls keep the property cool in the summer.
From the property, a path leads to splendid viewpoints of the surrounding rolling countryside and vineyards known locally as the Toscane Fronsadaise (Fronsac Tuscany). Just 150m away is the Chateau Franc Capet, a family run vinery since 1850 where, by appointment, you can visit and try the strong, ruby red wine they produce. Also within walking distance is Chateau Arnauton (about 300m) and Earl Vignobles Jean-Bernard Roux (under 1km) where you can enjoy wine-tasting and the owners will be delighted to share their passion for viticulture with you.
The beautiful and renowned wine-producing town of St Emilion, now a World Heritage Site, is a short 20-minute drive away. Further east you can easily discover the highlights of the Dordogne including Riberac, Perigueux and Bergerac, all a little over an hour’s drive distant. To the west the long ocean beaches at Lacanau or the sheltered coastline of the Charente Maritime are both an hour and thirty minutes’ drive. Villa Les Vignes is easily accessible via the motorway which is only a few kilometres away and the elegant city of Bordeaux and its airport are just 45 minutes by car.
We recommend no more than six adults in the party as the fourth bedroom is more suited to children.
Please note: There is a small local road that runs along the property and some occasional road noise can be heard in the day usually early morning and late afternoon but not at night. The owner occasionally and unobtrusively stays in a totally separate studio flat about 10m from the property. The flat does not overlook the property and has a separate entrance but the owner is on hand if required.
- Living/dining room, TV, DVD player, hi-fi, corner sofa. Spiral staircase leads to mezzanine bedroom.

The terrace leads to both the covered terrace and also the pool.

This is a very pleasant and cool covered terrace where you can enjoy al fresco dining while enjoying the superb views. Wooden Wendy house. Four sun loungers and two armchairs. Two parking spaces.
Pool size: 7 x 3.5m. Depth: 0.95m to 1.5m (gently sloping). Security system: Alarm and gate. Steps in to the pool. The pool is accessible via a few steps up from the covered terrace.
LIBOURNE: 5km. Libourne is a bustling market town set on the banks of the Dordogne and Isle rivers. The town has market days three times a week and in the summer a weekly night market with great food and entertainment. Also in the summer the town hosts an annual arts festival. Other out of season festivals in surrounding towns and villages include the festival of the fishermen in Fronsac, just over 5 minutes from the villa and many food and wine festivals. For wine lovers, Libourne, St Emilion and Bordeaux host large events for the annual celebration to mark the start of the wine harvest in September.
DAY TRIP IDEAS: Visit to the close by vineyards or more famously known vineyards such as Pomerol, one of the finest wines of the Bordeaux regions or St Emilion, one of the true gems of the Bordeaux region. The town itself is a real delight and the opportunities to try various wines in the town and nearby villages are almost endless. Why not try the guided tour of St Emilion in a tuk-tuk where you can discover the medieval town from a somewhat new perspective.
BORDEAUX: One of the most recognizable town name in the world and one inevitably associated with rich historical culture and wine. Bordeaux is an elegant town with magnificent architecture and now the historic centre is a World Heritage Site. The recent addition of the tramway in the city centre makes it all so easy to travel around stress free from cars. You can use the local Park and Rides and enjoy your journey into the unique city of Bordeaux.
DAY TRIP TO THE SEASIDE
LACANAU: (90km) The beaches in Lacanau are fabulous with a 15km long stretch of sand and great fun for families. As the beaches are so long you can find some quieter spots but be mindful that only some parts are supervised by lifeguards. Lacanau is famous for being one of the best surfing beaches in France and each year the surfing championship is held in Lacanau in August. The town itself has an array of pedestrianised streets with cafés, bars, restaurants and all sorts of souvenir shops. There is a really pleasant and relaxed atmosphere when walking around the town.
MESCHERS SUR GIRONDE: (100km) The small resort of Meschers is situated on the 'Cote de Beauté' between Royan and Talmont on the northern edge of the Gironde estuary in the Charente-Maritime. The three main beaches are attractively interspersed with rocky headlands and cliffs and there is a small port where there are a number of cafés where you can sit and unwind and admire the pleasure boats. Meschers also has troglodyte caves, carved into the chalky rock along the seafront. They have served various purposes over the centuries, from grain storage to hiding contraband, and occasionally used as homes. A visit to the caves will also allow you to appreciate the views across the Gironde estuary as you follow the coastal road to get there.

We had a lovely time in Marie Hélène’s villa. The ‘big’ event in Maransin was a great success. We were also able to use the villa to host a few dinner parties for family members.
We loved the setting with the vineyard sweeping across the valley and up to a splendid Chateau on the horizon. The attractive and well stocked garden around the villa was charming, with the outdoor ‘verandah’ a favourite setting for our evening meals. The weather was hot and sunny so we also made good use of the swimming pool.
Not with standing that, it must be stressed this property should not be promoted to accommodate up to ten people. There are two main reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, the toilet facilities are insufficient for this number. Secondly the gallery 'mezzanine floor' above the kitchen area is not private enough to be a bedroom. We were fortunate in only being 10 people for 2 nights.
Other notable difficulties and issues were:
A hand washing basin and ventilation are needed in the downstairs loo
The DIY spiral staircase to the mezzanine is 'rickety' - I myself had to replace a fixing screw to secure the bannister to the gallery wall
The ground-floor bathroom cannot be called 'en suite' when it has no toilet and a second common entrance from the hall
The wifi didn't work all week - on the leaving day when Marie Hélène was 'at home' it suddenly was working!
Marie Hélène sent 'Natalie' and her son mid-week to clean the pool. Natalie also attempted to help us with the wifi to no avail
The lighting in the upstairs shower room is inadequate
The mobile 'ping-pong' tennis table was previously damaged but with the help of my son-in-law we were able to set it up and use it
Considering the rental cost we would have expected a 'less tired' and more 'up market' accommodation
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our sojourn in Villa Les Vignes, dining outside, playing table tennis with guests, and cooling off in the swimming pool.
We hope this feed-back is not regarded as 'nit-picking'. It is meant to be helpful and to suggest improvements.Guest rating:
We booked this villa through Select Villas and thanks to Christophe it was a very smooth process and all our questions and requests were met with friendly advice and replies including directions to the villa. The owner Marie made us feel very welcome and showed us round the villa and the outside areas and greeted us with a few treats including a lovely bottle of local red wine. The villa has character and is very tastefully decorated. It is very well equipped including the kitchen and easily accommodates 6 adults - the size of our party - but could sleep a further 2 adults. The outdoor patio and dining area is spacious and is shaded for most part of the day allowing great usage and the pool is set in a lovely little garden with gorgeous view over the surrounding vineyards. Marie had on our request kindly organised a wine tasting evening at the neighbouring Chateau Franc Carpet where Eric and his wife hosted us with wines and food. Overall we had a fantastic holiday in a lovely villa in a great location and we would not hesitate to book through Select Villas again given the level of service and friendliness
Guest rating:
Your whole process from start to finish made me feel that nothing was too much trouble. Marie was so lovely and helpful, and managed very well with our 'Franglais' communication. Being around on site was invaluable, and her help and knowledge made our stay so brilliant. The road at the side of the property does create some noise, especially early morning. There's no getting around that, but it was a little noisier than anticipated. We knew there was no air conditioning, which was fine, however, I did ask if there was an electric fan to cool the room our granddaughter was sleeping in. I think that might be a useful addition for when it gets very hot. The house itself was quirky and full of character, however, there were a lot of ornaments around and we were a little worried about breaking anything. Perhaps put some of
her more delicate items away? We managed to avoid breaking anything during the week, which we were relieved about! We will recommend your site to friends, and your attention to detail makes the whole booking and traveling process so easy. Thank you, it was a holiday that made many happy memories.Guest rating:
