From the owner: "We found our perfect home near the small village of Sorges, Sorges is famous throughout France for it's Truffles, there is a bakers, co op, tabac shop, church and the famous restaurant the Auberge de la truffe. It is a tranquil place yet only 20 mins drive to the Medieval city of Perigueux, which is one of our favourite city's, the property is within easy access to all the attractions and about a 1 hour drive to the Dordogne river, yet offers you the peace and quiet to escape the hustle and bustle. There are 3 villages all within 4km from the property for the essentials and a 10 - 15 min drive to the large hypermarkets."
The Dordogne region has been a popular holiday destination for many years, with budget airlines flying daily making it more affordable. The area is famous for it's many Medieval towns and stunning Chateaux all within a short drive away from the property.
Through the summer months there are plenty of Fetes and Festivals and colourful markets to explore and with the warm climate here it truly does make a difference.
The Dordogne area is one of the most popular destinations in France offering the holiday maker plenty of interesting things to do and see.
Don't forget to visit St Jean de Côle en route there or coming back, one of the beautiful villages of France.
Perigueux
Sorges is the closest village to the property, famous for its Truffles, visit the museum and walks around the Truffle groves. The Auberge de la Truffe is famous for its gourmet food.
St Jean de Cole is a 20-minute drive away known as one of the beau villages of France.
Many historic caves are within easy driving distance.
Brantôme is known as the Venice of the Dordogne, the River Dronne encircling the small town, linked to the outside world by five bridges. Excellent restaurants. Lovely market on Fridays and in the summer always painting exhibitions in the Abbey. A fun place for children, too, with canoe hire. Its gabled bell tower, rising from the rock, is held to be the oldest and one of the finest in France. The original Benedictine Abbey was founded in 769 by Charlemagne. The Abbey as it is today was rebuilt in the 18th Century and now houses a museum with prehistoric remains and a permanent exhibition of the mysterious trance paintings, engravings, and drawings of the medium-cum-artist Fernand Desmoulin (1853-1914). In the summer it also shows the work of living artists, which are offered for sale.
Brantôme offers the family a lovely day out for there is something for everyone. You can explore the River Dronne in a hired canoe, or in a pedal-powered boat. There are numerous, cafés, bars and restaurants to suit all budgets, art galleries, arts and crafts shops, antique shops and a wonderful farmers' market every Tuesday and Friday in July and August. For budding artists some wonderful scenes to paint. It's not uncommon on lovely summer days to see people with their easels precariously placed along the river bank endeavoring to capture the moment.

This is a stunning property. There were six of us, two couples and two adults. So much space inside the house and the most fantastic kitchen. The photos do not do it justice. Every detail is perfect and the owners have thought of everything you could possibly want for an enjoyable holiday. The weather was not perfect during the week but the close proximity to interesting small towns and villages provided activities each day and to be able to return to this brilliant property each day made it a wonderful week.
Guest rating:
A truly idyllic house and setting and absolutely perfect for our group for 8 adults and 5 children. We had a fantastic week.
The house was beautiful and extremely well equipped. We absolutely loved the outside space where we spent most of our time. The covered area was just perfect for relaxing, eating outside and viewing the pool. The pool was enjoyed by both the adults and the children as was the vast woodland which we all explored.
Glenn and Roma were extremely hospitable and we all had great fun with archery and the quad bike rides.
Really hoping we will get the opportunity to visit again.
Guest rating:
Glen and Roma gave us all a very warm welcome, followed by a comprehensive tour of the property. This is a beautiful house in a glorious location, being well equipped from every point of view. The local supermarket provided for all our needs and there are excellent places of interest to visit. During the week our hosts provided archery lessons - challenging and great fun. La Chenaie is beautifully furnished and is finished to a high standard and the pool is a perfect focal point.
We all had such a happy time, if only it had not passed so quickly!
Guest rating:
Thanks so much to Glenn and Roma for a very relaxing stay at their beautiful home. The pool and archery were particular hits with our group! Would recommend highly.
Guest rating:
We were a family of 11 and had a most memorable celebratory weeks holiday with you. We loved the whole holiday especially the large lean to beside the pool where we had all our meals & BBQ's. The highlights were the the Archery, Quad bikes ,Games room and Pool . Glenn & Roma were wonderful, the grandchildren loved them.
We were near Sorges where re we enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch in Auberge de la Truffe. Also Brantome and Perigueux were 20 minutes away with great restaurants and shops in both towns . A fine cathedral in Perigueux with organ recitals. It was very hot when we were there so spent a lot of time in the excellent pool.
We would highly recommend this house. A happy family from Ireland.
Guest rating:
We have just finished a wonderful week in this beautiful house and wished we could have stayed longer. Roma and Glenn made us very welcome, and helped with local knowledge for restaurants etc.
We were very comfortable throughout our stay, everything we could need was provided and we all had a very relaxing and fun holiday.
Perigord is not a region we have visited before but we will certainly be back and hope that Roma and Glenn’s home will be available for us to stay in again.

Party of 5 adults and 3 children! Something for everyone the men particularly enjoyed the archery whilst the children lived in the pool.

This was the third time our family have stayed in a large villa in France and the 10 of us absolutely loved it, this being the best so far by a long way. The house is furnished beautifully and is so comfortable to live in, everything you could possibly need is there. The outside also has everything you could wish for; a perfect crystal clear swimming pool that all ages and abilities can use, the lovely shaded terrace, the fields and woodland. Add in the archery, quadbiking, games room and the equipment for loads of different sports and La Chenaie wants for nothing. It is everything it says it is and Roma & Glenn are perfect hosts, both helpful, friendly and informative without being seen until wanted. They gave us several hours of their time to patiently teach the archery to young and old making all of us feel relaxed and at ease in trying something new. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

lThe pictures of this property perfectly show the accommodation and grounds, so I will not bore anyone with a long dissertation on all its merits. Suffice it to say that our three generation (9- 72) had a great time and this property provided all the space we required to fulfill our needs. Given that it was incredibly hot whilst we were there, the swimming pool was a huge bonus and very lovely it is too. Glenn and Roma were ideal hosts and we recommend them, their property and the little bonus archery to you all.

We have just, sadly left La Chenaie after a week of quality time with family. The house is even better than it’s posting in every way. Attention to detail was key, from the well stocked utensils & kitchen to the bedrooms, bathrooms, relaxation areas both inside & out, the games barn & soccer field! Roma & Glenn are the perfect hosts- there when you need something but totally unobtrusive & generous. We had a challenging week of extremely hot weather followed by a violent storm - respect for owners & guests was paramount. Our party of 9 young & mature adults spent happy hours playing table tennis, pool, darts, poker, football & the wonderful archery session... never a dull moment but ample chill time by the pool.. thank you for allowing us to borrow your home. I cannot find fault with anything & would love to return in the future. Diolch yn fawr!
Guest rating:
We've just returned from a fabulous week at La Chenaie. The spacious house is utterly beautiful and decorated with touches of luxury and all the facilities you need for the perfect holiday. We were a large family group of adults and young children and found the layout a dream... with the 3 bedrooms upstairs all being family rooms with double & single beds in each and 2 double bedrooms downstairs. Two sitting rooms with TVs downstairs including a hugely spacious open plan kitchen / dining room leading out onto a beautiful huge covered terrace with another large dining and sitting area overlooking the blissful pool, perfect in sunshine or rain and where we spent most of our time. The 42 acres of rambling woodland and open fields include a fabulous archery range with moving targets, childrens woodland playground with swings, see saw and zip wire, hammock, badminton net... There's also a games room, bikes to borrow and if all that wasn't enough to keep us thrillingly occupied, the children (and grownups!) were also entertained with rides on the quad bike (supervised by the ever accommodating Glenn). Glenn and Roma are really lovely hosts, living in the gite next to the main house they were very friendly and happy to chat and show us around and be on call if needed (the archery lessons were fab) but also kept discreetly out of the way to give privacy and make you feel that you really do have the house to yourselves.
When we did tear ourselves away from the house there is loads to do and see in the local area... we visited the fascinating cave dwellings at Grotte Du Roc de Cazelle and the beautiful village of Brantome.
Thank you Glenn & Roma, it really was a perfect holiday and we can't wait to come back!

I had never seen a property with so many 5 star reviews but now, having been myself I can understand it! Absolutely lovely. Would recommend to anyone wanting a great base in the Dordogne. Pool was fantastic & the house took the families breath away. Glenn & Roma are great and could not have been more welcoming & helpful.

This was our second stay at La Chenaie. Beautiful large well equipped house that can easily accommodate extended families, fabulous outside areas for the children and adults and a wonderful pool that we all enjoyed. Glenn, Roma and their son Jamie greeted us like old friends and were once again the perfect hosts- really lovely and helpful. Everyone enjoyed the archery and quad biking and we were also able to enjoy excursions to Sarlat, Brantome and some caves as the house is well situated for sightseeing. Highly recommend this property particularly if travelling with extended family or large group of friends. We all hope to return but the dates we wanted for next year are already booked- so if you are reading this please be quick!
Guest rating:
The house was spacious, comfortable, elegant and very well equipped. We did some serious cooking there, for 11, and the kitchen and walk-in-pantry didn't disappoint! Glenn and Roma are very warm and welcoming, offering support if needed, but very discreet. The acres of woodland, and the free archery lessons were magnificent. A lovely pool, woodland play area and games room.
Guest rating:
The house is beautiful, the photographs we viewed at the time of booking did not show all of the improvements that have been made since our last stay here. Furnished and equiped to the highest standards with everything you could possibly need, we have tried other places to stay and have been disappointed. The outdoor terrace, games room and the on-site archery course saved the day when the weather became overcast. Pool was crystal clear and new garden and childrens play areas provided entertainment. Roma and Glenn were the perfect hosts, invisible until needed, nothing was too much trouble, and we're excellent at teaching us the skills of archery, providing equipment, arrows and tuition ' free of charge". We have stayed here a number of times and for us it just keeps improving!
Guest rating:
We arrived at the house and were 'blown away' by it's beauty, both inside and out. So much thought has gone into the property with beautiful touches making this very much a 5 star holiday. The gardens and pool are private with walks right from the house amongst the 42 acres of woodland. The children had so much to do, swimming, archery, pool, darts, table tennis, pinball, quad biking, and on the very rare occasions they wanted it, free Wi-Fi and TV.
Our children did not want to leave the house, but if you want a day out, I would recommend speaking to the owners for the best towns and villages to visit as they have a wealth of local knowledge and always happy to help. Of particular beauty is the town of Brantome and Friday is market day.
Guest rating:
What a fantastic holiday! The property, location, and facilities exceeded our expectations. Glenn and Roma were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable holiday. The archery and pool were fantastic and enjoyed by all the group. We enjoyed our holiday that much that have already booked to return next year!

You can read about all the facilities that this property has to offer elsewhere; I write about the ambiance of the place. With an extended family ranging from 7 to 70 years old, we all had a simply fantastic week where the beautiful region, a super property, lots to do, lovely host family and wall-to-wall sunshine made for a wonderful holiday. Glen, Roma and Jamie [our hosts] were magnificent and contributed so much to make our stay such a positive experience. They were always on-hand to help/advise and guide but were never intrusive. Thanks so much to you all.

We all really enjoyed our stay at La Chenaie, it was a very relaxing time in a beautiful house and setting, the owners Glenn, Roma and Jamie made us feel so very welcome. The house is very well presented and the communal areas, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and outside living space have been well considered to make you feel right at home. We all loved the swimming pool, great for a pre-breakfast swim, a cool-off after a day exploring, or just to spend a lazy day! In addition to the pool, there's archery, table tennis, a pool table and a volleyball net, so there's plenty to keep all ages busy if you don't fancy exploring. And if you do want to explore there's plenty to see and do within is an easy reach of the property, from the rivers, canoeing, beautiful market towns, caves, and chateaux's. We hope to be back sometime soon!

We've just returned from La Chenaie after two weeks in this stunning house set in 42 acres and we couldn't have wanted more. The hosts Roma and Glen couldn't be more helpful giving advice on where to go for amenities and on things to do. Sorges is only 5 minutes away and has a small Coop, chemist and bakery and Perigeaux is 20 minutes away with a large supermarket. La Chenaie is perfect for lazy days by the pool and has fantastic outside areas and plenty for the children to do such as the swings, football and badminton areas and then if arranged with the hosts archery which they couldn't be more accommodating. The house itself has everything you could want and more and is perfect for large families or groups of friends. We would definitely recommend La Chenaie to anyone and wouldn't think twice about returning. Fantastic x

We have just returned from La Chenaie. We are a family of 5 with children who are 14, 12 and 7 and we were accompanied by our friends and their younger children. La Chanaie is a stunning property situated in a very quiet and beautiful spot a few miles from the village of Sorges. We have stayed at properties in France many times before and yet to experience a poor one to be fair, however this place takes the top spot and not sure how it could be beaten! The house is large and beautifully furnished, the outside area is just as good. There is a very large undercover part overlooking the pool which we found ourselves in most of the time, this includes a lounge area and separate dining table. It is no more than an hour from Limoges airport and 20 minutes from the large town of Perigueux. There is a well stocked Co op which is open daily in Sorges or you can travel to Perigueux for a larger shop. The owners of the property, Glenn and Roma are the perfect hosts. They live in a separate Gite next to the main house and are on hand for anything you wish, but will totally respect your privacy and never intrude. Nothing is ever too much trouble. You will see in other reviews that there is an archery range in the vast grounds. This of course needs to be done under the supervision of Glenn or Roma but you only need to mention it and they drop everything to take you around! Our children found this very enjoyable. Glenn was also kind enough to let us all have a go on his quad bike on a few occasions around the huge field. He even let my 12 year old son have a go on his own (with my permission, he is a sensible lad), you wont see that in many other places! Glenn and Roma's son Jamie also lives on site but again totally respects your privacy. He is so polite and on the rare occasion that you do see him always speaks and passes the time of day. The pictures of the property do not do it justice in my opinion, it really is perfect. We were very sad to leave this spectacular place but will return soon. There is literally nothing negative to say, I would highly recommend La Chenaie and urge anyone thinking of visiting this part of France to stay here.

Just returned from a weeks holiday staying in La Chenaie in the dordogne. The house is large and stunningly decorated throughout and there is plenty of room for two large families and a set of grandparents to stay without feeling that you are stepping on anyones toes! The owners are warm and welcoming and were on hand for any advice and were particularly great at teaching adults and children Archery. The terraces and pool area are amazing and the children could hardly tear themselves away to go exploring the rest of the Dordogne (which has loads of interesting places to visit including caves, chateaux, picturesque towns and villages and great canoeing). Many evenings were spent star gazing, sharing a bottle of wine with loved ones on the terrace overlooking the pool and waiting for shooting stars. Also the games room was used every evening as my Father, Husband and brother in law became very competitive over table tennis, pool, darts and pin ball (the children hardly got a look in). Our Children's ages range from 4 to 14 and all of them were happily occupied throughout our stay and our group consisted of 6 adults, 1 teenager and 4 children. If you are considering visiting this area of France then you would be very wise to book La Chenaie for your stay, you will not be disappointed, it has everything you could wish for and more. The owners Glenn and Roma should feel very proud of what they have achieved.
Guest rating:
This property is beautiful, set in acre's of it's own land. The rooms are all very clean & recently refurbished to a high standard and successfully blends modern with original traditional styles. The upper bedrooms have quite low ceilings, the lower bedrooms (2#) don't one of the ground floor bedrooms has an ensuite. The living rooms on the ground floor (2#) are spacious both have lovely fireplaces with working wood burning stoves and both have wide screen T.V's. The main kitchen / dining room is large with a 10 seat dining table. The kitchen it's self has everything you'll need to cook for a large family (there were 10 of us), it has a range cooker, large american style fridge with ice & chilled water. There is also a barbecue on the equally large patio (with another 10 seat table & chairs) we made tons of use of this. If you read any of my other reviews you'll see that food & eating out is a very important part of our travels, we did not eat out once, that's how good we thought it was! There is a huge traditional walk in larder (that we managed to fill after our first trip to the shops) (Note the shops close early on Saturday night & at lunch time on Sunday, so if you are arriving late at the week end best to arrange in advance with the owners to get some food in for you) There is a heated out door pool with cover, a games room with pool, pin ball table tennis & darts. Uniquely they also provide archery, the forest has a network of tracks through it most of which lead to a variety of Archery targets, some are even moving targets. Glen & Roma are both competent archers & supervise the activity well. They are patient teachers for the those who have never tried t before. The owners Glen & Roma live in a Gîte adjacent to the main house, our preconceptions about this were a bit negative but that soon changed, they are on hand should you need anything or any information about the activities nearby but they keep them selves to them selves if you want them to. They are a charming & very friendly couple who made us feel very welcome. We would definitely consider returning, probably a bit later in the year though, the weather was not good during our stay (untypical of June but that seems to be plant earth now).
Guest rating:
La Chenaie is a wonderful house beautifully furnished with everything you would need, great outdoor space eating outside even in the rain. Hosts Roma & Glen were lovely very helpful every one of us from Grandad too grandchildren had a wonderful holiday.
Guest rating:
Spent a week here with family and friends. A truly lovely place In a beautiful setting. Many rental properties are furnished cheaply as owners are conscious of potential damage from guests. This is not one of those places and is furnished to an incredibly high standard, and as other reviewers have stated, would not be out of place in a magazine. The owners, Glenn and Roma, are an incredibly friendly couple, who couldn't be more helpful. The kids loved the 40 acres of land, which included an excellent archery course. Would definitely return and would recommend to anyone.
Guest rating:
This was our second holiday @ La Chenaie the first being at the height of summer and once again nothing disappointed both families sharing this stunning property this over the Easter holidays. Our children (8 - 14yrs) we entertained or entertained themselves on this 42 acre smallholding offering an abundance of adventurous activities. The small lanes and woodland tracks are ideal for walking / cycling. We did not venture to the region for perfect weather this early in the season but this stunning house is foremost a home to relax and enjoy whilst our hosts remained discreet were wonderfully helpful to us all. There are some great local restaurants and markets and only a short 20 mins drive into the larger town of Perigeaux.

On arrival, we were greeted as old friends, Glenn and Roma made you feel very welcome and at home. The house was furnished to a very high standard, and had everything you could possibly need including hairdyryer to cake tins, this part was important to me due to son having birthday whilst there. The outside seating ares was excellent to sit on during the day or evening enjoying a glass of wine or two, or perhaps to just to sit and unwind with a book. We all loved the pool, great to either swim in or just have lots of fun, the pool area had lots of umbrellas and seating area. Glenn and Roma have over 40 acres of land, which the boys played in and loved a lot, they went on the quad bike with Glenn and did archery in the forest. My children's ages range from 17 to 8, and I never heard them once say they were bored, so must have been a perfect place. The property is close to all amenities and Dordorgnes attractions. I tried to book for the whole of the school summer holidays for 2016 but unfortunately they already had some bookings, I am now looking at 2017. Thank you for such a lovely holiday.
Guest rating:
A beautiful property, set in beautiful surroundings and well placed for many of the Dordogne's attractions. The property is immaculate and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The owners, Roma and Glenn, were incredibly hospitable and very welcoming. Highly recommended!
Guest rating:
Wow what a lovely place, a fantastic house, very comfortable with a lovely pool and terraces which we sat out on each evening playing games and relaxing with the odd bottle of wine or 2. The surrounding area is magnificent with lots to do and see. Absolutely adored Brantome, very picturesque and set on a beautiful river - a place that is a must see. The market at Perigueux is also a must, set amongst the old lanes and squares of the pretty town centre. We purchased lots of tasty fresh produce and then had a BBQ back at the farmhouse in the evening. The owners, Glen and Roma were very friendly and welcoming and have thought of everything for the farmhouse and can give lots of tips on the area and where to eat. We really didn't want to come home.
Guest rating:
Just had a week at La Chenaie, probably the best holiday we have ever had. Weather has been good, two days a little dull but every other hot, up to 32 degrees. Lovely and quiet but only a few minutes from Perigueux which is full of lovely shops, restaurants and architecture. Highly recommended!
Guest rating:
A quick review: Fantastic! The house is everything you could ever want in a French villa. The photos do not do it justice. Very large, beautifully finished. The pool and terrace are awesome. The extended gardens are a delight to explore. The hosts are very friendly and go out of their way to help make the holiday special. Traveled with 2 families with kids aged 3,5,5,6. They loved it. Book this one.
Guest rating:
We booked La Chenaie relatively late but managed to find a real gem. Glenn and Roma have lovingly restored their home with meticulous detail and it is clear within minutes of arrival that they are extremely proud and rightly so! We travelled with another family so five children (all under the age of six) in total and six adults. The house is conveniently laid out so that it splits well for two families. The large kitchen has all the facilities you need and more! Whilst we hardly used it the games room and the ability to have UK TV were great. We were initially worried that being their home the house would be too good for the abuse the children would give it. This was not a problem they have designed it to not only look lovely (and the photos do not do it justice) but with hard wearing surfaces etc. The house is pretty self contained. We spent lots of time with the children playing various games on the open space opposite the house. There are then extensive woods which are well worth an explore. The pool became the centre of attention for most activities. This meant we did not venture out much. The nearby town Sorges does not have huge amount to offer, a good bakery and a basic market on Sunday morning. Other than that Perigueux is a short trip in the car and well worth a night out. We had a lovely swim in the river in Cubjac. Glenn and Roma also have two small Gites adjoining the main house. Whilst we did not see these they could be ideal if you are travelling with a larger group. They happened to be in one of the houses which was ideal as they were on hand should we need to ask any questions. However they very much kept themselves to themselves and were in no way intrusive. They were the perfect hosts! If you are looking to come to this part of France or the Dordogne then there is no better place to stay. I imagine you will need to get in quick though as this will go quickly next year.

Beautiful house in a lovely setting. Woodland walks every day and never saw half of it. 5 minutes to local shops, 15 minutes from large shopping centre and lots to see within an hours drive. Accommodation first class with every facility. All agreed we would love to return in the summer, no hesitation in recommending.

Now and again everything just works perfectly when you book a holiday rental. This was the case at La Chenaie. The house is straight out of 'Country Life' magazine. A spacious period farmhouse beautifully furnished yet very informal. Set in 40 acres of some of the prettiest country in a region noted for it's scenery yet only 20 minutes from the capital of the Dordogne. No problem keeping the kids happy or us adults. Table tennis, snooker, darts, swimming pool - even a field archery course and all the equipment. We'd expected to spend a lot of time touring the many attractions of the area. Instead we kept finding excuses to just stay at La Chenaie and saved a fortune in petrol and eating out. The owners, a retired couple from the North of England, couldn't do enough to make the holiday exceptional. Our only worry is they won't have room for us next year.
