Maison Neuf (house number 9) is an old house in the centre of the village, sympathetically renovated. Thick stone walls keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.
Accommodation comprises:
STOP PRESS...Pool now heated and will be over 20 degrees between April and October
- The spacious entrance hall is graced by a Broadwood baby grand piano, if you want to relax and fill the house with music.
- From the entrance hall, the large kitchen is fully fitted with an electric cooker, microwave, bean to cup coffee machine, fridge freezer, and washing machine.
- A door leads from the kitchen to the side of the garden.
- There is a downstairs toilet and washbasin.
- From the kitchen and also from the entrance hall, you access the large 44m2 lounge/dining room. The dining table seats 8. Sofas and armchairs.
- French doors lead from the lounge/dining room to the garden and the 10m x 5m (uniform depth of 1.5m) in ground swimming pool. Most of the pool is in the sun all day but there is always some shade around the house, something you will appreciate on hot days. Alarm available for the pool.
A large staircase takes you to the first floor with:
- Four spacious en-suite bedrooms (26m2, 24m2, 28m2 and 22m2) leading separately off the landing. Two king-size beds and four single beds. Every bed has its own bedside table and bedside lamp. Plenty of storage space (wardrobes, hangers, chests of drawers) in each bedroom. Every bedroom has its own bathroom with toilet, basin, and bath with shower over. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan. Bedding and towels provided. TV in every bedroom with UK satellite and most free to air channels.
The wifi reaches throughout the house and most of the garden.
It's an old house with a big, steep staircase and some changes of floor height, both of which make it unsuitable for very small children or anyone with mobility issues.
The house is in the centre of a busy village, at number 9 place de l'eglise (hence Maison Neuf) and you are within walking distance (2 minutes max) of the bakery, cafe, restaurants, pharmacy, post office, the Mairie, garages, tabac and other shops. The supermarket, open every day, is a 5-minute walk away, as is the tourist office. Park the car and forget about it for a week.
The Voie Verte links Oradour and Chalus. It is a converted railway track and now allows you to walk or cycle up to 15kms, mostly in the shade. Chalus is worth exploring for its links to Richard the Lionheart.
Bike hire available from the village tourist office. Tennis court available for hire by the hour via the Tabac - 5 minutes walk, near the Rugby Club. You're welcome to use the racquets and balls in the pool house.
We are 10 minutes drive to the 'beach' at St Mathieu lake and 20 minutes from another artifical 'beach' at St Estephe where you can try your hand at paddleboarding.
Weekly evening farmers markets during the summer months are combined with a Bal with live music - different locations within a 10-20 minute drive.
Lots of information re local attractions available from the tourist office in the village.

Wendy and Andrew met us upon arrival, giving us a thorough tour of the facilities and also kindly provided some basic provisions (allowing us time to settle before heading out to the very convenient supermarket). We were thrilled with the accomodation - it suited all that 2 families could want, with each bedroom having en suite meaning all had their own privacy. The kitchen is well equipped, which allowed us to easily produce family meals. The outdoor space is incredible, with different seating areas and an available shady spot whatever the time of day. The pool was well used by all the party and the hosts were thorough with the pool care. They have gone out of their way to try and provide the extra things to help make your stay more comfortable or easier - for example there is a selection of inflatables for the pool and outdoor games. Wendy was a most attentive and thoughtful host, providing us with information about different places to visit, and even buying beach mats prior to our visit to the local lake. The availability of the cycles was appreciated and twice we cycled along the voie verte. We would definitely visit again - neither the property nor the location disappointed. Thank you Wendy and Andrew!Guest rating:
Our second visit to Maison Neuf, and once again we were not disappointed. The house is now owned by Wendy and Andrew, who are very attentive and thoughtful hosts. The four bedrooms all have ceiling fans, which worked very well. The kitchen is well equipped, and has everything you may need. We went there to relax and use the pool, which was heated to around 30 degrees. We also had use of bicycles, and cycled part-way along the Voie Verte, which runs for 13 km from the village. The supermarket is a 5-minute walk, and has all the basics. There are also 2 bakeries within a couple of minutes' walk. Unfortunately for us, the pizzeria in the village was closed for their holidays so we drove to Chalus and had a really good pizza there. Chalus is at the end of the Voie Verte, so you could cycle there too. There is another restaurant in the village, which is open at lunchtimes, but we didn't try it. The tabac nearby sells gifts/cigarettes/books etc. There's not a great deal else in the village, but it is a lovely relaxing place. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a spacious house with lovely pool. Thank you Wendy and Andrew for looking after us so well.Guest rating:
We have just returned from a week's stay here and had a really relaxing time. Sue, the owner, is on hand at all times to make sure you have everything you need. The house is beautiful, and so is the garden and swimming pool, and very well equipped. There was nothing that Sue hadn't thought of. I would have no hesitation in recommending this house to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in a lovely house.Guest rating:
