La Grange is a three bedroom, beautifully renovated detached barn conversion, with an open plan living/dining and kitchen area with exposed beams and stonework throughout with vaulted ceiling and mezzanine gallery.
La Grange is set in an acre and a half of land with excellent views of the Charente countryside. The entrance to La Grange has a gated drive with plenty of parking. The outside area has a covered sun terrace and a brand new 8m by 5m heated salt water pool (not for months June to September) with cushioned roman steps and electric security cover.
At the gable side of the barn, there is covered area for dining with BBQ and seating area for relaxing and enjoying the view of the Charente countryside.
Accommodation comprises:
- There is a large double glazed entrance to a 72 square metre open plan living/dining/kitchen area. The floor is tiled thought-out except the lounge, which has an oak timber floor.
- The kitchen has a granite-topped island complete with comfortable bar stools. The kitchen also has granite worktops an oven, dishwasher, gas hob and large fridge freezer.
- The dining area has a large wooden table and comfortable seating for six people.
- The lounge area has a new 49-inch flat screen TV complete with sound bar and access to Freeview channels. There is also a Blu-ray/DVD player with plenty of DVDs for your entertainment. The lounge has a cosy wood burner which is surrounded by attractive stonework and oak flooring.
- The large ground floor bathroom comes complete with a luxury shower, glass hand basin, and heated towel rail.
- There is a 4 square metre laundry room with washing machine etc.
The oak staircase leads to a beautiful mezzanine gallery area which has three bedrooms leading from it.
- The master bedroom is 28 square metres with king size bed exposed beams, en-suite bathroom with a free standing bath, WC, glass hand basin, heated towel rail and oak flooring.
- The twin bedroom has two single beds, built in wardrobe, oak flooring, and stonework which overlooks the pool and beautiful countryside.
- Bedroom three is a large double bedroom which has built in wardrobes, oak flooring and stonework and stunning exposed beams.
La Grange is situated in a small hamlet on the outskirts of Chabanais, a pretty town on the impressive river Vienne. La Grange is only five km away from all the amenities and is very close to the lakes of the Haute Charente. Charente is reputed to be the second sunniest department in France.
Limoges airport is 35 minutes away. Angouleme is less than an hour (63 km) away, with its direct TGV links to the UK (via Lille) and Paris
Less than 2 miles away in Exideuil, there is canoeing and a cafe/restaurant.
There is a tranquil riverside spot with play area and cafe very close to the village of Manot a ten-minute drive away.
All the local amenities are in Chabanais including a supermarket/restaurants/bars and railway station.
Nearby is the attractive town of Rochechouart, a 13th Century walled town with restaurants/bars and is also home to the interesting museum of modern art.
Confolens is a ten-minute drive away.
Stunning local walks in the French countryside.

The family stayed here and it was a great holiday, to be recommended. The Grange is well laid out and has a high spec of internal furnishings and kitchen, with a useful utility room (washing machine, etc) it's also clean and well maintained. It's in a great position and we made the drive from Calais and found it easily. It's near a number of places worth a visit, from the local town at Chabanais to Confolens, Chirac, and Rochechouart along with a longer journey for larger places like Limoges. or you can just sit around the pool and the lovely covered area to one side of the Grange, enjoying the quiet and the scenery. Supermarket and boulangerie all in easy reach, a few minutes by car, and I did like the local U market. All in all, as we were there just before the UK Quarantine of France, we had a fantastic time, lovely weather, and a special getaway after some of the trials of lockdown at home. Lovely house with everything you need. The house is really private but with lovely walks nearby and surrounded with blackberry bushes! The pool was great and the house had really good quality outdoor furniture which made lounging in the evenings in the breeze all the ore enjoyable. Just returned from a week at La Grange and wished we had stayed for two! Property and grounds are stunning and although the area is quiet and tranquil you are only a short drive to Chabanis with a range of amenities and a local supermarket. Plenty to see and explore if you are driving but also local walks and cycling are possible. Great communication with owners and support is available locally if you were to need it. Would certainly recommend a stay at La Grange and hoping to return next summer.Guest rating:
From the moment we pulled into the drive we knew we were somewhere special. La Grange did not disappoint. The house has a spacious feel inside and out with plenty of seating areas. The pool is an added bonus. La Grange has everything you could possibly want. We took our motorbike and thoroughly enjoyed the rural roads and lack of traffic (although this was mid September). There are plenty of places to eat and visit within a short distance from the house. We came away having thoroughly relaxed and will certainly let family and friends know about La Grange. The property is stunning and was perfect for our holiday needs. Very well appointed with many small touches that made our stay comfortable and easy. The pool was perfect for the kids (even the big ones!) and helped keep us cool during a very hot week. The outdoor living space was really great, although the flies were numerous. The property is located in a small community in a rural setting. The town of Chabinais is only 5-10 mins drive away, with a several great boulangeries and Super U supermarket. We visited many local sights including Confolens (pedals on river), Piegut Pluviers (great market) and Lac de Lavaud (lake swimming with beach). We had a thoroughly lovely week and would recommend this property to other groups/families.Guest rating:
