Le Jardin Secret
You arrive outside a property hidden behind high stone walls in a dusty village street. You push open the tall wooden gates and enter into the secret garden. Before you are an oasis of calm & enchantment - flowers and greenery everywhere. A beautiful stone house offers comfortable living for your family and the pool looks very inviting. Welcome to Le Jardin Secret.
Facing south, the house is arranged over 3 floors. The ground floor living area is wheel-chair accessible, although the ground-floor bedroom is up 2 small steps. The upper floors (if rented) are accessed via an exterior staircase, which is traditional to farmhouses in the south of France.
The house in total has 5 spacious bedrooms, sleeping a maximum of 10 guests although the ground floor can be rented on its own (out of high season) with 1 self-contained double bedroom (160cm bed) and its own bathroom (travel cot available). In the house, as a whole 3 bedrooms have en-suite facilities, the 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor share a shower room. Please note that access to the 2nd floor is via a spiral staircase.
The main attraction of this beautiful property is undoubtedly the large secluded, well-maintained gardens and swimming pool. Here you will find complete peace & tranquility. With mature trees and shrubs, the gardens are perfect for relaxing in the sun or the shade and the high walls ensure your complete privacy. The large pool (12m x 6m) is surrounded by sun loungers and there is a poolside fridge and ping pong table.
The outdoor dining table is under a pretty rose and jasmine covered pergola, complete with a gas barbecue. There is an organic vegetable plot for you to pick your own vegetables. Close your eyes & imagine yourself there.
If you would prefer to have a cosy winter or Christmas break the sitting room has an inviting open stone fireplace.
Pets are welcome, we don't allow them on the furniture and in particular the beds and ask that our guests clear up after their pets. We charge an additional €100 to the security deposit

We have never had better sleep on a holiday, due to air-con in all the bedrooms (apart from the downstairs one which didn't need it) and very comfortable beds and bed linen. The whole house is amazing, adorned with lots of lovely drawings/pictures, incredibly well stocked kitchen (great as we all cooked a lot) and a large kitchen. Outside there is a lovely, cool, pool, deep enough for diving in, at the end of a walk through a lovely garden. If you want a relaxing week, with guaranteed good sleep, cooking till your hearts content, then this is the place for you.....................just don't tell too many people as they might book it before you!Guest rating:
An absolute pleasure to spend a week at Suzannah's lovely house in Montaren. Amazing facilities all round from the beautiful bedrooms to the fully kitted out kitchen which was a joy to cook in. Sitting outside in the lovely garden or around the pool you will struggle to be motivated to go out but the lovely town of Uzes or surrounding countryside are an added bonus to the stay.Guest rating:
If you're looking for somewhere to really relax and unwind while enjoying fine rosé in the sun then Montaren-et-Saint-Médiers is the perfect village. And Le Jardin Secret is the perfect place to stay while there! Suzannah has really thought of everything to make your stay as amazing as possible. The house features big bedrooms (two with air conditioning which was essential in the near 40 degree heat while we were there!), spacious and comfortable living areas if you want to chill out inside and a kitchen that has every pot, pan and utensil you'll need if you're planning on cooking for yourself while there. The welcome hamper was a real special touch too - in fact we loved the mango vinaigrette so much that we made sure to buy a bottle to bring home with us when we went into Uzès! However, for me the best part of the house is the vast garden/green space. There are so many idyllic spots to sit and enjoy the sun that you really are spoiled for choice, while the pool catches the sun from the morning until early evening - perfect for getting a good tan! The checking-in and out process was also super easy, with manager Carole an absolute delight and so helpful throughout our stay. Would 100% recommend staying here!Guest rating:
Suzannah has really thought of everything, I meant everything. It was a cook's dream. A young child's fantasy and a vacationer's haven. Well appointed and wonderfully taken care of by both Suzannah and her manager Carole. I would recommend it over and over.Guest rating:
Montaren is a perfect little French village - friendly boulangerie owner, honey coloured stone and so much peace - and Le Jardin Secret is the perfect French villa within it. The massive bedrooms, beautiful living areas and well stocked kitchen make it a pleasure to live here and play at being a local for a week or two - and sitting in the back garden watching the sun go down with a glass of rosé must be one of life’s greatest pleasures. Carole and Bruno were delightful and very helpful during our stay and we are already planning our next trip.Guest rating:
This an absolutely beautiful house to stay in. The pictures are great and the reality is even better. I have every intention of returning. It's so well equipped and so very comfortable and it feels very secure. The pool is a lovely size, plenty big enough for our family group of 9. The gardens are gorgeous and there's always a shady spot to sit and chat, read, listen to the bees or snooze! The vegetable garden is such a lovely addition. We did lots of lazing around and mostly ate in because it was so easy and comfortable. The Gloriette in the garden is a lovely spot for evening meals and a glass or 3 of lovely local wine. We also went on great trips... swimming in the river at Collias, wandering around Uzes and other local villages, heading into the Camargue and enjoying the beautiful sandy beaches there . You're in a good spot for heading off and exploring. Susannah is an excellent host, her communication throughout was excellent and once in France Carole & Bruno are on hand if needed. We had the most amazing holiday and everyone came home relaxed and refreshed. Thank you so much Susannah :)Guest rating:
This was our third visit to Le Jardin Secret and it was lovelier than ever. We were a group of ten - friends and family - and even with so many people, the layout of the house and garden allowed for both solitude and sociability! The agents were welcoming and met us with plenty of smiles and a quick tour of the house. The house is decorated very tastefully, and is clearly well-loved by the owners, rather than just an impersonal rental property. The amount of useful equipment in the kitchen, the three fridges and the comfortable sofas make it like home but better. Uzès is about a 45 minute walk away, and there is a simple route which avoids the main road. Uzès itself is very easy to love: fairy lights in the evening, great restaurants and a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. Montaren's boulangerie is really good, and there is also a small grocer's shop and a deli in the village. Intermarché (on the outskirts of the village) is open on Sunday mornings in summer, which is handy.Guest rating:
We stayed for a week at the beautiful Secret Jardin. The setting of the house is so peaceful - the garden is beautiful and the pool is large. The agent who showed us round was very helpful. The house is spacious and very tastefully decorated and we were particularly impressed with how well kitted out the kitchen was - no excuse for not rustling up a feast or two. The village of Montaren is very pretty and has all necessary conveniences. Uzes, a short drive away, is full of great places to eat. Table 2 Julien restaurant, a few minutes stroll from the property, is well worth a visit, with excellent, inventive food and warm service.Guest rating:
Le Jardin Secret is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places we have ever rented. We have just spent two heavenly weeks in this perfect place. The house is spacious, all the bedrooms are large and very comfortable. There is a big kitchen and utility room which together mean that the practicalities of catering are easily dealt with. We ate in every evening, just because it was so simple to manage and we were in such lovely surroundings. Uzes, the local town, is absolutely charming with many gorgeous shops and amazing markets and is only a few minutes drive away. Even closer to the house is a rather smart supermarket and closer still, just a short walk, are a boulangerie and small grocer. It all made for very easy living. The garden is particularly lovely with roses, lavender, herbs, geraniums and cascades of jasmine. The scent of the flowers in the evening is wonderful. Carole and Bruno were very helpful and on hand whenever we had any questions. Altogether we have had a very special holiday and very much hope we’ll be able to return.Guest rating:
We stayed in the Le Jardin Secret for four weeks from the end of August to late September. There were eight of us for the first three weeks, dropping to just two of us for the last week. The property really feels like a home, and the decoration is relaxing and calming. The kitchen is excellently equipped and there is plenty of crockery, etc. for eight at least.
The garden is lovely, and we could help ourselves to figs and grapes, among other things. The pool is in the sun until late in the day. The location is incredibly peaceful, but still within a few minutes walk of a baker and a few minutes drive of the local Intermarché and Uzès.
We ate in a lot as it was so pleasant, but did visit a few local restaurants, notably the excellent La Table d’Uzès and L’Artemise (booking essential for both).
It's also very convenient for sightseeing, with Pont du Gard 10 minutes away and Avignon, Orange and Nîmes within an hour by car, and plenty of beautiful villages nearby.
Highlights were a couple of canoeing trips - one comparatively leisurely 8lm on the Gardon, going under the Pont du Gard, and a more strenuous 24km trip through the stunning Ardèche gorge. A beautiful place to stay for a wonderful holiday. Thank you!

Lovely village house in tranquil surroundings, friendly hosts and thoroughly enjoyed our week there. Clean throughout. Would highly recommend.

The house and gardens are totally beautiful. We stayed here for the first time this summer and, high though our expectations were, the reality exceeded them. Excellent facilities, tastefully furnished and perfect level of cleanliness. The village has its own boulangerie which is open every day; the intermarche is a ten-minute walk away and Uzes itself is walkable if it's not too hot. What a novelty too, to be able to pick tomatoes, basil, and onions from the garden!

We enjoyed a blissful week at the Secret Garden and it was a struggle to leave in the end.
The property is absolutely charming with a beautiful garden that is clearly very keenly tended to. There were only two of us staying but this would be the perfect place for a large group as the garden and pool provide areas for groups to hang out and also for couples or individuals to enjoy their own peace and quiet. We barbecued every night (when we weren't at the local restaurants) and spent 95% of our waking hours in the garden or by the pool. It is a very aptly named property.
Inside there is a large and well equipped kitchen with two fridges (as well as the poolside fridge/freezer which was a welcome addition) and a large dining table that we would have used if we hadn't eaten every meal outside (there is a fantastic canopy over the outside table should the weather conspire against you). The living room area was also very comfortable and the bedrooms all very well appointed. The room we stayed in had fantastic air conditioning which is an absolute must for me when staying in hot countries.
We found a delightful bakery only 5 minutes walk from the house and next to a Tabac if you need anything at short notice. We also visited a fantastic restaurant (la table 2 Julien) again only 5 minutes walk and as good as anything you'll find food wise in London or Paris but in a far more relaxed setting. Uzes is just a 5-minute drive (as is the local Intermarche) and we went in for a few lunches and to look around a very pretty town that seems as though it may not have changed for the last 50 years but in the best way possible.
I've only been back for three days so I may be a little biased still and suffering post-holiday blues but I have already looked at next years availability and would love to go back as a group to make full use of this splendid holiday house.
Thank you for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back!

We've stayed as a couple for at least five summers now and still enjoy the experience. We've managed to rent the downstairs only which suits us perfectly.
The house is very comfortable and relaxing with a tremendously well-equipped kitchen. And with the generosity of the owners, we were allowed to pick the produce from their beautiful garden, ideally located close to the kitchen. Swimming in the pool is very private as is the whole house, which makes it a tranquil place to be. Although I can imagine, if we were to book the whole property it would be a great place to enjoy with a group of friends, as it has a good sized outside eating area to accommodate that. Uzes is no distance away, we have even walked to it on occasions for an evening meal, and of course the famous market. I would have no hesitation in recommending the house to anyone other than I might be disappointed if it is fully booked!......
Guest rating:
My family and I have stayed here twice and the only reason we don't visit every summer is that I've now moved to the other side of the world!
The house itself is stunning. It feels like a rustic farmhouse but has all the facilities that everyone could ever need to entertain themselves - board games, wifi, television, books and of course, the ping pong table!
The area itself offers a number of activities, from river canoeing and cycling to the more relaxed end of the scale - little bistros and a stunning French farmer's market that takes place on Sundays. To be perfectly honest though, we spent most of our time lounging by the pool and having bbqs (and numerous bottles of French wine from the supermarket down the road). The garden is full of spicy chilies, fresh basil and an assortment of other herbs that will work perfectly with alfresco dining.
I can't recommend this place enough. It's great for couples, friends, and families who just want to take a break and completely relax. Needless to say, we were very reluctant to leave and hope we can visit again in the near future.
