Welcome to the Old Mill. This is a genuine home from home. Restored to a very high standard and containing almost every amenity. It has private access direct onto the totally unspoilt Tech River shown above, which is just 50 metres from the back of the Millhouse. There is no longer running water actually at the house, as that was altered back in the late 1940's when the passage of the river was slightly changed following a flood.
- Superb location
- Light and airy lounges
- Country kitchen
- Ensuite rooms
- Locally serviced
- Tasteful decoration and many faciliities
The area is tranquil but also has a wealth of holiday options. The house is large and all the rooms are impressive - from a huge and sociable kitchen, to the massive and comfortable lounges, the art studio or the outside terraces.
The house is very spacious and ideal for a group of up to 12 (possibility of more) to relax in comfort across two floors with a choice of reception rooms. Its ideally situated for family gatherings, hiking or cycling groups, or groups of artists.
Access to the beautiful and unspoilt river Tech is direct from the rear of the house and a pathway is available provided shoes are worn. The river setting is both private and unspoilt. You can swim in the river in a rockpool just a short distance up river - at your own risk – it’s clear mountain water and normally slowly flowing.
Adjoining the kitchen is a large dining room with access to the pool terraces and garden. The dining table takes 10 people and can be extended. There are also dining tables outside and on the upper terrace.
Next to the dining room is a large art studio/sitting/music room with beautiful views into the garden and beyond.
Library area and separate WC on first floor.
Amenities/Facilities: Fully stocked kitchen with range oven / hob, fridge/freezer microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron/ironing board, satellite tv, internet access, room fans, cot, high chair etc.
The house has free WiFi, music players for iPod or laptops. Stereo upstairs and portable radio / CD.
Outside
Private (alarmed) swimming pool (8 x 4 M), which is not overlooked. Large surrounding terrace with loungers and sunshades etc. Separate terrace for additional loungers or table and chairs.
Huge upper terrace from the first floor lounge with dining table and chairs for al-fresco use. Great views over the pool, garden, and mountains. Gas BBQ available.
Bedrooms
- Very large en-suite master bedroom with 4 poster superking-sized bed, seating area.
- Two very large character double bedrooms with seating areas and sofa beds.
- One double bedroom with ensuite.
- One double bedroom.
- One twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom.
Bathrooms
- Large family bathroom with separate shower.
- Three ensuite bathrooms/ shower rooms.
- All recently refurbished to a very high standard.
Kitchen
Massive open plan kitchen with huge central island for cooking or just socialising. Large gas range with electric oven, dishwasher, double fridge with ice-maker. Every kind of kitchen amenity.
Utility Room
Separate large utility containing storage and also washing machine and tumble dryer. Small beer fridge. One high chair.
Lounges
Upstairs is a beautiful lounge with fantastic views and opening onto a huge upper terrace with its own sunshade.
Downstairs is a huge lounge/TV room.
The location is very private but still only 5 minutes drive to the nearest village and 20 minutes from the beautiful market town of Ceret.
The Mediteranean beaches nearby are among the best in France and the Spanish border is less than half an hour away. There are a huge number of places to visit within easy reach. There is a well known gorge just down the valley, art museums (Picasso, Daly, Dufy and many other artists have lived in the area), the towns of Girona, Perpignan and a little further the famous citadel at Carcassonne. The house is surrounded by nature and mountains. The whole area is also steeped in Catalan tradition.
The weather here is almost always hot and sunny. It's cool indoors and the mountain air is more comfortable than down on the coast in summer.
The Mill is situated in from the East coast right in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It’s an ideal location for family get-togethers or groups and can cater for a wide variety of interests ranging from walking and hiking, cycling, golf, bird-watching, diving / fishing on the coast, painting, music and cooking. That said, many of our guests just stay at the house relaxing by the pool or going for walks nearby.
Access from Girona airport is one hour twenty minutes. Perpignan airport is one hour away and the house can be reached in around two hours from Barcelona, Toulouse and Carcassonne.
