Le Prieuré and its forest
Built in the 18th century, Le Prieuré has been scrupulously restored and furnished in 2017. In the heart of the picturesque village of Louvagny (63 inhabitants, Calvados / Normandy), Le Prieuré is surrounded by a large inside courtyard and a 3.000 sqm 100% fenced garden that leads directly to its private 20 hectares forest, la Forêt de Louvagny. The whole property is exclusively reserved for your stay.
Description :
Le Prieuré is an individual house, scrupulously restored, recently renovated and furnished, with courtyard and garden, and a panoramic view on pastures, fields and woods. Located in the heart of the village of Louvagy, its natural stone fenced garden gives free, direct and exclusive access to the forest.
With its 90 sqm, on two floors, the accommodation is spacious, bright and comfortable. It contains:
Ground Floor
- A large living room with chimney (open fire), lounge area and dining room area
- Modern and fully equipped kitchen
- A bathroom with shower
- A separate toilet
- An additional room (sofa-bed), with access to the garden.
First Floor
- A master bedroom with double bed (140 x 200 cm)
- A bedroom with bunkbeds (90 x 200 cm)
- A bathroom with king size shower, double sink and toilet.
The property, surrounded by its annex buildings (garage, wood storage…), provides through its typical architecture an exclusive and authentic universe of unique luminosity, specific to Normandy. Like an autonomous hamlet inside the village!
Le Prieuré is situated in the heart of the village of Louvagny - 63 inhabitants (Calvados / Normandy) – and surrounded by on pastures, fields and woods.
Louvagny is unique in the region for its 17th century castle. The history of the castle is intimately linked to the Counts of Beaurepaire de Louvagny, which have served France with distinction under all kings, from Phillip the 5th to Louis 18th, under the emperors Napoleon the 1st and Napoleon the 3rd; as well as under the Republic.
Actually, the old Lordship of Louvagny, the Pastures, the fields and woods around the Castle are owned since feudalistic times to the descendants of this same family. It has never been sold, only the name of the owners changed due to weddings. The Castle itself is situated on 100 hectares of Land, entirely fenced by walls, with remains of the drawbridge (listed monument – a big part of the castle moat have been filled in 1830 – 1840), and its lordship Chapel, also listed historical monument. This Chapel can be visited on demand.
Louvagny is located 8km from Saint Pierre-sur-Dives, well known for its Halls of the 11th century, part of the medieval Normand heritage, and welcomes a big countryside market: fresh bread, fish, meat, living animals, fruit and vegetables…
15 km away, Falaise is a medieval city, overlooked by its 10th century castle, place of birth of William the Conqueror, and more recently known for its violent liberation fights, in the “Falaise Pocket” in august 1944. Every Saturday, the city center receives its traditional market.
Louvagny is situated :
- 7,4 km from Vendeuvre : Castle, jewel of Normandy. Discover daily life in the 11th century, very nice furniture. In the garden, surprise water jets, labyrinth…;
- 21 km of Crèvecoeur (Castle, A unique example that has been miraculously preserved)
- 45 km of Caen: Memorial of Caen, dedicated to the 20th century – WWII and the invasion of Normany - Abbeys, Castle of Caen…;
- 50 km of Deauville: Beaches, Grand Casino, Palaces...
- 60 km of the invasion beaches: Juno Beach, and a little further, Omaha beach;
- 65 km of Honfleur : old Port surrounded by authentic 16th an 18th century houses.
- 72 km of Bayeux: ancient medieval city, Bayeux tapestry.
- 150 km of Mont Saint Michel.

We had a wonderful weekend in this charming house. We really loved the large garden and access to the woods. We had some great walks! It was also really nice to have a fire when the evenings got chilly. Everything was clean and the kitchen was very well equipped. Adriaan was a great host, he communicated everything clearly and responded immediately to emails and questions. He had also put together a great recommendations list for restaurants and places to visit. We had a great trip to Falaise Castle.
Guest rating:
We spent two wonderful weeks at Le Prieuré last August and had the most amazing time. The cottage is impressive, inside and out. There are so many completely private places to relax in the grounds. Having two bikes we could use was fabulous and we rode to the local bakery. We felt like we were staying at a country house lodge. Immaculately clean, well equipped and private. The cottage offered a welcome cool retreat with wi-fi and on demand TV - perfect for August afternoons when it was too hot to do anything else. Thierry and Brigitte were fabulous and so helpful. This a great base to explore Normandy, sample the delicious cider made locally and visit all the local markets. Honfleur is only an hour's drive away for a great day out. And, although it was an early start, we also got the train to Paris for the day.Guest rating:
We booked for a whole month for a second stay at Le Prieure, and we have had an absolutely wonderful time. If you crave peace, quiet and tranquility, this place is perfect! Highly recommended.

Adriaan was an attentive host and quick to answer any and all of our questions. The place and the grounds are beautiful. The fireplace was especially enjoyable during the chilly evenings. Would definitely recommend!
