Nestled amongst the narrow lanes near the coast, a short walk takes you to the town’s popular centre. There is an abundance of restaurants selling delicious local cuisine and bars scattered across the shore. With over six kilometres of coastline, this wonderful seaside town is home to various sandy beaches. Plage de la Côte des Basques is the closest beach where surfers from all around the world come to ride the waves. If you fancy giving it a go yourself you can try out the various surf schools available. For those who prefer the more relaxing pass-time of sunbathing, La Grande Plage is the town’s main beach with golden sand and lots of sunbeds.
With a picturesque coastline and breathtaking countryside and mountain vistas inland, this region is ideal for active groups who love the fresh sea air. There are a variety of activities you can get up to in the Basque country; from exhilarating water-sports to wine tasting. Other excursions include walking, cycling, canoeing, horse-back riding and golf – enough to keep the whole party occupied!

The closest sandy beach to the apartment is Plage de la Côte des Basques. Its golden sand and large waves have made it a haven for surfers who travel from all over to practise their sport. If you want to learn how to ride the waves yourself, there are various surfing schools dotted about which teach people of all ages and abilities. Biarritz' main beach, La Grande Plage, is also worth a visit; made popular with both tourists and locals thanks to its stunning large stretch of sand and backed by some famous Art Deco buildings.
Downtown Biarritz, less than a kilometre away, is filled with a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops. There is also a variety of eateries in close proximity, serving up local delicacies such as seafood, using fresh ingredients. Fancy eating back at the apartment? Visit Les Halles market and pick up some popular Basque ingredients and wonderful fresh produce.
Whether you like buying yourself a treat or prefer to browse, Port Vieux has various shops to choose from. Rue Port Vieux is the main high street, with French boutiques and quaint antique stores. Wander through the street while taking in the cool Art Deco buildings in between your spree. With its own theatre, casino and swimming pool, Port Vieux is a great location to spend the day with loved ones.
If you fancy something different, drive around 20 minutes (or catch the 30-minute bus from central Biarritz) to Bayonne (10km), a wonderful town that embodies French culture. Indulge in a glass of wine in one of the bars or taste some local dishes in the range of restaurants. The town’s gorgeous river front is the perfect place to walk off your dinner, taking in the natural beauty and wildlife. There are also several picnic spots where you can enjoy some snacks with loved ones while admiring the scenery.
