Aimed at adults, Les Hirondelles is a spacious, beautifully appointed gite surrounded by lovely countryside in the Lot et Garonne. It forms a totally private wing of our 400 year old farmhouse and enjoys the benefit of a large swimming pool (10m x 5m) set within pretty landscaped gardens, a generous private covered dining terrace and another dining area overlooking the pool. The terrace looks to the West so you can watch incredible sunsets whilst enjoying a glass of wine.
Although new with French Connections, we have been running the gite since 2013 and have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed full occupancy each year. We have many repeat guests and we hope that it continues for many more years to come!
"We've stayed at a few gites in France now and I can safely say Les Hirondelles has been by far the best! It's spacious, beautifully furnished, and the private outdoor spaces are fantastic. We had a table and BBQ with a great view, and then the pool is situated in a large private garden, and we had access to the courgette and tomato plants! We used their bikes everyday to get to the local boulangerie, and they also provided locks and helmets. The gite is equipped with everything you'll need - including two fridges so you'll have no problem storing all the local wine you buy... They also have an amazing dvd collection! There's so much to do nearby - we had a car which I'd say was essential. Nearby picturesque towns, wine tours, Bordeaux and canoeing on the Dordogne to name a few. Karen and Ed are kind, welcoming, helpful and fun. We couldn't have asked for better hosts. They have excellent knowledge of the local area, and they couldn't do enough for us. I'd really recommend a stay at Les Hirondelles, book it now! :) "
The inside of the property consists of:
Ground Floor
- Spacious lounge with a comfortable 3 seater sofa and 2 reading chairs. 42 inch Samsung flatscreen TV with sound bar, Sky Freesat with UK channels, BlueRay Dvd player. Large chest of drawers containing all kinds of board games to keep you entertained. Bookshelf with a large collection of books, DVDs and CDs. Log burner to keep you cosy on cooler nights
- Fully equipped kitchen with all mod cons, L'Or Barista coffee machine & milk frother, plenty of crockery and utensils. Dining table with 4 chairs. Patio doors lead out onto your private terrace complete with Weber gas bbq and a dining table with 4 chairs. You will also find a cool box with additional crockery & cutlery should you wish to go out for a picnic or eat out at one of the many night markets.
- Large fully tiled ground floor bathroom with spacious walk in shower, wc, bidet and sink. Shaving light & socket. Shelving unit and towel rail.
- Washing machine, iron & ironing board, clothes horse, outdoor rotary airer/dryer.
Second Floor
- Spacious king size bedroom with a very comfortable kingsize bed, large wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables with drawers & bedside lights, ceiling fan, skylight. Insect blind on window. Hairdryer.
- Large twin bedroom with brand new beds & mattresses. Large wardrobe, dressing table with mirror & drawers, ceiling fan, skylight. Hairdryer.
- Fully tiled first floor bathroom with shower unit, wc, bidet and sink. Shaving light & socket. Shelving unit and towel rail.
Outside Area
- You will find a lovely, covered terrace immediately outside the kitchen where you can bbq and enjoy 'al fresco' dining with country views. Large table and 4 chairs. As it's on the North West side of the property it is the perfect place to retreat from the heat of the sun and also watch the sunsets in the evening.
- The swimming pool is 10 x 5m with roman steps leading into the water. The depth is 1.2m at its shallowest and 2.2m at its deepest. The terrace area is a generous size for sun loungers and parasols and the paving is made from cool-touch material so is always comfortable to stand/walk on. There is a solar shower beside the pool to rinse off.
- Surrounding the pool is a pretty landscaped garden with another dining area complete with bbq, covered by a 4m x 3m parasol. You will also find a comfortable seating area to relax, overlooking the pool.
Information about any additional facilities
We know how hard you have to work for your holidays and we strive to make sure everything is in perfect order so you can enjoy your time here from the moment you step through the door. You will find the gite spotlessly clean. We will provide a welcome pack of coffee, tea, sugar, wine & goodies. There will also be kitchen roll, cling film, foil wrap, bin bags, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and cleaning products at your disposal.
In the bathrooms we will provide shower gel, shampoo, toilets rolls & handwash liquid. Perfect for those who fly drive
We have tried to think of the little things that will help to make your stay memorable for all the right reasons!
Les Hirondelles gite is set in lovely countryside with gentle rolling hills all around. Perfect for enjoying local walks and cycle routes. We have 4 good bikes that you can make use of during your stay here.
The village of Allemans du Dropt is only 3kms away and offers a bakery, butchers, hotel, bar, pharmacy, tourist information office and an ancient church dating back to the 13th century. Set on a tranquil river, you can enjoy a picnic or even hire a canoe.
The famous bastide towns of Duras and Eymet are only a 10 minute drive away where you can enjoy weekly day & night markets, pavement cafes in the square, shops and restaurants.
There are plenty of local vineyards to visit where you can taste and buy wines.
The gite is in a perfect location for exploring the Dordogne valley and beyond. A short drive away are the famous wine regions of Monbazillac, Bergerac and Pecharmant. St Emilion is approx 1 hour drive where you can explore the beautiful medieval town and world heritage site. Wine lovers can arrange tastings and tours at the tourist office.
The many attractions of Sarlat, Lascaux and Domme are under a two hour drive away where you can canoe along the Dordogne river and pass through these picturesque villages. The area is steeped in history; explore the ancient caves of Lascaux and prehistoric sites of Les Eyzies and Rocamadour.

This is the third time we have stayed at this property and is undoubtedly a testament to the great times we have had there as guests of your ultimate hosts Karen and Ed. If your idea of a perfect holiday is a rural retreat with everything you need to create special memories, then this for you. The owners, Karen and Ed, are exceptional hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble; they genuinely care about your holiday experience. The gite has all the facilities you need and we particularly used to enjoy breakfast on the terrace looking out over the fields of sunflowers that are prevalent in the Dordogne region. The pool is spotless and of a size that you can properly swim in. You can relax in its beautiful garden (just chilling in one of the hammocks at your disposal !)If you're of a mind to, it's well worth using the bikes at the Gites (and even Kayaking on the Dordogne river is available not too far away and a great experience). We can't tell you how good it really is. We will undoubtedly be going back to experience it all again !Guest rating:
What can I say but WOW. First time to France and we couldn’t have had better accommodation. Karen and Ed are a fab couple very knowledgable about the area and wonderful hosts. The gite lacked nothing, even rubber gloves provided for washing up. The gite is set in the most beautiful of surroundings facing onto open fields. A wonderful find. Well worth a visit. The pool and garden areas are wonderfully kept and second to none. The most relaxing break we have ever had. We will be back.Guest rating:
