This large country house with a heated pool, set within vast grounds on the edge of a traditional Normandy village is close enough to the shops and bars to walk but totally secluded and surrounded by nature.
With 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (plus 2 additional WC), there's plenty of space for extended families or groups of friends to enjoy a break to remember.
The garden & grounds
The garden and grounds stretch for 17 acres, with two small lakes, two paddocks and a small beech wood as well as direct access to St Sever forest. The small lakes are not stocked but are full of varieties of fish partial to sweet corn and remarkably easy to catch.
The 10 x 4m heated swimming pool, contained within secure fencing and a locked gate for safety, provides an ideal location for adults to take in the sun and relax as well as for children to work off their excess energy. The nearest neighbours are cows in a farmer's fields so children are free to make as much noise as they like (or you can bear!)
You are welcome to make use of the sun loungers around the pool or relocate them - under one of the many shady trees or in direct sunlight. Help yourself to a book or magazine, there are lots to choose from.
Throughout the summer, although there is a formal dining room, eating outdoors around the garden table is popular. The night sky is exceptionally clear and excellent for star-gazing.
In terms of wildlife in the grounds, you are likely to see or hear many types of birds including heron & owls, coypus (which are a bit like water vole/otters) and deer which graze in the meadows by the wood or come down to streams near the small lakes to drink. You are not likely to see any wild boar because they stay well clear of humans. There is a very friendly white cat which visits regularly.
There is parking for 5 or 6 cars on the carriage drive.
Open log fireplaces are situated in the lounge area and kitchen. The one in the kitchen may be used for cooking.

St Sever forest, which is accessible directly from the garden, has marked nature trails and a large lake to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Fine scenery, unspoilt countryside, delightful towns, zoo, magnificent churches, chateaux, etc and excellent food and local produce are all available within the region as well as riding, golf, sailing and numerous sporting activities to engage children and adults alike, of all ages and dispositions
The village of St Sever has a good variety of local shops including a pharmacy and garage as well as all the essential food and delicacies for which the region is famous.
The Saturday morning market is small and friendly. There are two bars, a restaurant and a pizzeria along the High Street, all within walking distance of the house.
There are riding stables nearby which offer full equestrian facilities for the keen horsemen/women.
There are two brocantes, one in the village and the other just outside and local vide-grenier throughout the summer in neighbouring villages. These are not to be missed.
Granville, with its excellent beaches, sailing marina and fishing port is only a 30-minute drive west from St Sever, with Mont St. Michel, Bayeux and the D-Day landing sites in easy reach.
Vire and Villedieu-Les-Poeles are both lovely historic towns approx 10-15 minutes drive away.
Villedieu is a really pretty place, great for a stroll about and lunch or dinner. The weekly market dates from a charter in the 12th century and is one of the best in the area. It has an interesting history, as it was a gift to the Knights of St. John from King Henry the 1st of England an association that lasted until the French revolution. It is famous for its copper and brassware and its bell foundry.

Linda, Geoffrey, just a few words first to wish you all the best for this new year. And also to let you know that we had a great time in your house which is full of good energy. We already think of coming back next year. Thank you very much.
Guest rating:
Now back home and back to reality after a wonderful holiday. The house was brilliant and all three families thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The children particularly liked the games room and the pool, and we all felt that the house was extremely comfortable and very well-equipped. Once again thank you for making sure that everything went like clockwork.
Guest rating:
Linda, First of all let me tell you how much our extended family enjoyed our brief holiday in La Braiserie. It was perfect for our needs and we very much liked Saint Sever and its surroundings. The proximity to the village with its excellent boulangeries and charcuteries was so convenient. The weather was very disappointing being cold and with strong winds but nevertheless, we made the best of things and a good time was had by all. Please extend our thanks to Marina for all her help and good advice.
Unfortunately, we did not see her on the day we left but I would be grateful if you were to pass on to her our best wishes and thanks for her cooperation. You are fortunate in having her services. Thank you in advance for so promptly returning the security deposit.
