This is our second visit to The Farmhouse and the cottage, two weeks last year and another this. 10 out of 10! Every year it gets better and better, and the weather was superb too. We tried the restaurant in the village this time and have been canoing. It is really is the best place in France- well done Madeleine and MarcusGuest rating:
I spent a week here with my family in June this year. The Farmhouse and the Maison are beautiful houses and we loved every moment of our stay. The pool is really great, so big and clean. The games room is a great asset to any holiday. The area around is good too- things to visit Lac Jemaye, Aubeterre, Brantome, Chalais market. We highly recommend you book here!Guest rating:
We stayed here for 2 weeks in June, took my mum and dad and our daughter. The farmhouse is stunning, set in the most breathtaking surroundings of total peace and quiet. It was fully equipt qfor our 2 weeks get-away-from-the-hustle-and bustle break. Faboulously clean with fresh, white sheets and the most comfy beds in the world! The owners (Madeleine and Marcus) have thought of everything. With the wine flowing, the pool amazing.... I felt like a millionaire staying in 6*+ accommodation.. it was wonderful! Thank you Madeleine and Marcus... you certainly know how to make your guests feel specialGuest rating:
We spent two weeks in this wonderful property in September 2018 and all I can say is the advert doesn't do it justice. We loved every minute of our stay. There is so much to do there, Marcus and Madeleine have really made it a home from home! The kids and (the adults) loved the pool, it's massive and all to ourselves, we took the bikes out, played darts, billards, football, cricket and relaxed on the many seating areas. The countryside is stunning... We didn't use the gym though, too much cheese and wine took its toll!!!! No need to feel on top of each other, it's such a big place. It is also very well decorated, clean and up to date. The bedding are towels are nice... what more can I say. The house itself is in a prime location to visit different places around, our favourite was Aubeterre sur Dronne, the market at Riberac on a Friday and Brontome. I can recommend this place 100%Guest rating:
My (extended) family and I spent a week in The Farmhouse and Cottage last summer (2018). The houses are full of character and a joy to stay in. Nothing is missing. The owners are helpful, knowledgeable, there if you need them, but very discreet. Not intrusive as I have experienced in other properties in the past. There are many activities in and around the property to keep guests amused, the weather was fantastic. A five star experience. We hope to return in June next year.Guest rating:
The Farmhouse and the Cottage are beautiful Charentaise properties that feel like a home from home as soon as you enter. They are equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. The fantastic pool is great fun, so big and spotlessly clean. There is fab bbq area outside the Farmhouse, protected from the sun by a sail and if you need it extra, more BBQ stuff at the The Cottage. The garden is gorgeous, so green and natural, the courtyard is enclosed so it is safe for little ones and there is so much to do....I could go on and on. The hosts are warm and welcoming, and during our stay, they were attentive yet without being intrusive and friendly, they helped out with gluten free food for one of our party, as we had not brought any with us and the baskets we found on arrival with pate, crisps, bread, pasta, coffee, wine and other goodies were great, kept us going til we got to the shops. (They even gave a couple of extra bottles of wine as we had run out!) I would recommend this property to anyone ! A real gemGuest rating:
We had a lovely stay in both houses and enjoyed the big pool, games room & watching the wildlife from the courtyard (deer, foxes, birds of prey & a wild boar). There was plenty of space for us all to eat all together or to find some quiet space of our own for reading. We fitted at lot into our week visiting Angouleme (swimming @ Natilus), Velorailing at Confolens, cycling to the local bar at Gurat, went for a posh lunch at La Grange aux Oies and visited the Vendoire Peat Bogs, the Castle at Villebois-Lavalette, and Brantôme. Many thanks to Madeleine & Marcus for a great holiday!Guest rating:
We have stayed in the farmhouse and the Cottage and love them both. The properties are very well equipped but still have loads of charming character. The views from Les Chauvins are gorgeous with fields and woods as far as the eye can see. In July there are sunflowers all around. The pool area is great with plenty of shade when the sun gets strong. Madeleine and Marcus are lovely hosts. We've been back 3 times with grandparents, children and teenagers and have always had a fantastic holiday. There's loads to do in the area; adventure parks, canoeing, river beaches, museums, castles. Plus food and wine. Who could ask for more!

We had a wonderful week at The Farmhouse. The properties are superb, clean and well equipped, they had everything we need and more. It is just like it say, a home away from home. The pool is great, and the grounds are lovely. Madeleine and Marcus have made this a perfect place to stay. There is plenty to do at the property and in the surrounding area. We have just booked to come back next year! Highly Recommended.

My extended family and I stayed at The Farmhouse for a week in August 2016 and it was everything it promises to be. The houses are truly charming, with everything you could possibly need to make your stay enjoyable. The newly decorated kitchens are lovely, the BBQ areas covered with the sails keep you cool in the summer heat and there are so may places to sit and relax. We used all the facilities while we were there, the bikes, the ping pong, the kids play area, the games room, but the pool was our favourite! There is plenty to do roundabout too. We visited Aubeterre sur Dronne, Brantome, Riberac market, Lac Jemaye, Angouleme and we did canoing, riding, fishing and even a bit of sight seeing. I really recommend The Farmhouse to all of you. We hope to be back soon! (A big thank you to Madeleine & Marcus for all their tips and help...and the odd glass of wine too!!)

We stayed at The Farmhouse in June with the extended family across both properties. This is a wonderful house for a large group, especially families as there is so much space for everyone. Our young children had an amazing time exploring and running from place to place - there is so much to do at the house we almost could've stayed there the whole time! But we did explore the local area and we're kept busy the whole week. The house is beautifully looked after by the very welcoming owners who live in a separate property onsite so are always on hand for help and advice. **Highly recommended and would love to stay there again**

My extended family and I have just returned from at marvelous holiday at The Farmhouse. It is the perfect holiday getaway; peaceful and beautiful but with so much to do we didnt really need to leave the property! We loved the pool, it's massive and with a jet stream, great fun was had by all and the games room is great. You really do want for nothing and Marcus and Madeleine are excellent hosts, full of local knowledge and ideas for entertainment. We have been lucky enough to see the classic car racing in Angouleme this week too. Great Stuff, I cannot recommend this place enough.

Wow, what can I say, we had two fantastic weeks at The Farmhouse at the beginning of August! 13 members of our family came together in this beautifully relaxing part of France. The Farmhouse is full of rustic charm and was everything we imagined it would be. The pool and the games room kept entertained us all for hours and the outside spaces to eat and relax were perfect. Lots of places to explore in the local area and there really is something for every age group. All the wonderful recommends from Madeleine and Marcus were much appreciated ....... wonderful hosts! Thank you for a fabulous holiday ........ we hope to be back one day!

We enjoyed a delightful week at Chez Olive, a beautifully renovated cottage with all the comforts of home. The house was really comfortable and we enjoyed the outdoor eating area, and of course the pool. The kitchen was better equipped than our own at home and the beds were extremely comfortable. Thanks very much :)Guest rating:
We have just returned from 14 day stay and from the moment we arrived we were enchanted by The Farmhouse and the Cottage. We got a warm welcome from Madeleine & Marcus, who where there to show us around. The welcome basket was a nice surprise, full of goodies. The wine, bread and pate went down a treat after the journey. The houses were very clean and extremely well equipped. It really is a home away from home! We spent hours in the pool, it's so big, it's great and there's a small paddling pool too for the little ones. There are bikes, table tennis, a pool table, table football, and plenty of games and toys. In fact no matter what your age Madeleine and Marcus have thought about you! We loved the fact that there were so many seating areas with nice furniture to sit on, that way we could all just do what we wanted. My husband loved the bbq on the Farmhouse terrace. There is a great playing field for badminton and footy. There are swings for the little ones too. From the house we cycled to the village for bread and walked round the beautiful rolling countryside. The Farmhouse is near to Aubeterre, Chalais, Angouleme. We loved it and we have booked for next year!

We loved the location; on a hillside, with rest and nature surrounded. Some farm animals jumped around, what gave a positive extra dimension. Goats to feed, chickens to photograph, and lounge chairs with the most beautiful view, day and night because of the overcrowded starry nights.
The farmhouse is so complete, with not only more than enough siting area, but also plenty to play with: pool table, soccer table, books, dvd's, and outside off course the pool, which fitted our total number of weekend guests of 20! Madeleine and Marcus are very nice hosts; they live aside, and can answer possible questions all day long. The houses are functional with a warm cosy feeling. Super!

What a fabulous place run by fabulous people! We've experienced some unrivalled hospitality! Everything from booking through leaving went smooth, communications were all top notch. The whole lot was very well equipped, we found nothing wanting! Thank you again so much, Madeleine & Marcus!

The whole place was marvellous, thouroughly enjoyed it, perfect wheather, great for swimming and we also loved the animals! The house was very well equipped, nothing missing! In one word, perfect holiday home(s).

We took our extended family for the first week and my wife and I stayed on our own for the second week.
The first week was fabulous everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves particularly the children. There were plenty of activities to keep them occupied from playing in the swimming pool to table games in the barn and games room to exploring the extensive gardens, they simply had the time of there lives. So much so my 5 year old Grandson was reduced to tears when it was time to go home as he loved it so much.
The second week was just the wife and I and it was a totally different place, quiet, relaxing, and very restful. Madeleine and Marcus are the perfect hosts, always had a smile and always willing to offer advice on where to go and what to do, we love them both. We have now returned back home to our hectic lives with our batteries well and truly charged. This was our second visit and before we left, we booked our third. Says it all really....

Our family stayed at The Farmhouse from July 5th – 17th 2014. We had the best holiday ever in a rental property! We rented both properties, as we were a group of two young families and two sets of grandparents! Marcus and Madeline have made this a magical home from home property. Our son and wife had the smaller house with his 2 & 4 year old girls and inlaws from the USA. Ideal as the grandparents had their own room away from the others with an ensuite. We had the larger property for ourselves and our daughter and husband with their 4 year old girl and two boys aged 1 and 2 ½ years. This was also great accommodation as we had the upstairs room and bathroom with a spare bedroom ( for the occasional grandchild to visit!). Our daughter had a separate set of rooms off the lounge with a door to shut to contain the children!! This had three large bedrooms with a large bathroom. The whole accommodation was large and had excellent storage in the way of hanging and drawers – half of which we never used! Both kitchens were good with all that was needed and again lots of storage for food etc.The swimming pool was cleaned every day by Marcus and covered at night to keep it warm. It was a little chilly when we arrived – about 24 degrees but rose to 29 as the weather improved. The gate is very secure – No-one found it easy to open! There were numerous play toys by the pool and a great paddling pool which the baby used. Good shade and sunny areas. The outside equipment was wonderful, all 5 children loved the trampoline and swings. There are so many sitting out areas that are all around the place – sun or shade. The games room had everything you could want in the way of board games and jigsaws for young and old. The sticklebricks were loved by all the children! A wealth of DVDs and CDs – though we never used the TVs whilst there since the weather was too good! There was gym and wi fit equipment. The barn had every type of outdoor bat, ball etc that you could think of. Table football was popular with the children but I don't think they had any idea of what they were doing!!! The chickens were an added bonus and the 2 year olds watched in delight as a hen laid an egg!! The goats were well fed by all everyday and the guinea pigs had lots of cuddles! All in all this is a wonderful place for all ages. Numerous places to go to from here by bike or car. We can recommend a newly opened restaurant at L'ECOLE – Vendoire. ( short bike ride) 3 course lunch at 12.50euros including wine! Also swimming pool at Jonzac – 1 ¼ hours drive. Brantome was a lovely village. The river beach at Aubterre has a lovely beach as does the Grand Etang de la Jemaye which also has a lovely play area. We hope to go back there again soon!

We took both the Farmhouse & the Cottage for the first time this summer and thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay, so much so that we hope to return next year. Les Chauvins is tucked away surrounded by beautiful countryside and above all peaceful. Both houses were clean, very well equipped and spacious. We loved hopping on the numerous bikes available to collect the bread in the morning. We loved the fact that The Farmhouse had a very homely feel to it; chickens and their chicks, goats and a cat wandered around and occasionally the owners dogs would come and visit! The garden too had many little secluded spots if you wanted to hide away for a while; the swimming pool was very popular, a really good size and in the sun all day. We had a party for twenty people to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary on our middle Saturday. We eat at a long table outside on a beautiful warm evening. Madeleine and Marcus, the owners of The Farmhouse, went way beyond the call of duty to make it a really special evening including supplying beautiful arrangements of wild flowers for the table. The delicious food was supplied by a local chef. During our stay, nothing was ever too much trouble for Madeleine and Marcus - so if you want a fun holiday in that part of rural France we would thoroughly recommend Les Chauvins!

We had the most wonderful holiday. The accommodation and surrounding area were lovely. We stayed in the Farmhouse. It was immaculate and had everything we needed. Gorgeous pool and beautiful views. Would love to go back!

A wonderful holiday with our children, grandchildren and friends at The Farmhouse. Clean, very spacious and wonderful views all around. The games room was a big hit with the younger members of the family. The most relaxing holiday ever. Thank you Madeleine and Marcus for being such great hosts. Ideal in every way, will definitely return.

13 members (3 generations) of our family enjoyed the most relaxing 2 weeks at The Farmhouse. We all stayed in the farmhouse & cottage & there was plenty of space for us to spread out & do our own thing in the day & then come together for dinner in the evening. We stayed in the farmhouse in a beautiful, light & airy room and spent most of our time lounging in the sun in the court yard or down by the pool as we were lucky with 2 full weeks of sun. The owners made us feel welcome from day 1 & their local knowledge is brilliant, those little restaurants tucked away you wouldn't know were there along with local events, we went to the local Bric a Brac & the Friday market in the town nearby. The location was idyllic and I would recommend a bike ride to the local bakery in the mornings for fresh baguette & croissants as the views are stunning especially first thing in the morning. There's also a lovely little walk down into the neighbouring fields, along the stream & into the woods. We got to the last day of holiday not wanting to go home & I would recommend The Farmhouse to both small & larger groups of friends & families as there's so much space for everyone to have some time apart & just relax as well as having the space to come together in the evenings. Lovely properties, welcoming owners, beautiful setting & so many wonderful memories to take away.

We went on a big family holiday with 12 of us (all adults) plus my 2 and half year old son. I can only try to describe how perfect this place is... My son could not have had a better holiday and it was the same for all of us. The houses have enough space for everyone to get some space if they needed it and all have dinner outside every night together.
The houses themselves are so beautiful and have a lovely feel about them, we instantly felt at home. This was helped of course by Madeleine and Marcus, the owners, who made us feel incredibly welcome. We always felt they were there if we needed them but at the same time they left us to it and made sure that this would be our home for that week and to relax and enjoy.
If you enjoy beautiful scenery, animals and a relaxing time then I cannot recommend this place enough. We all want to go again next year, accept one week wasn't enough for us, I think 2 weeks/10days would be ideal.

What a wonderful find! My family and I stayed (13 of us) for 2 weeks and it was just brilliant. As soon as we stepped through the gate into grounds of The Farmhouse and The Cottage we knew we had come up trumps. Both properties were excellent, have been wonderfully restored and really well equipped. The outside spaces and gardens (of which there were plenty) provided room enough for us all to either gather together to eat and chat or find an isolated little place to have time alone. We range in age from 3 to 70 and there was something for everyone. The pool was fabulous, DVD's plentiful and books to satisfy the most avid bookworm. The chickens, goats and guinea pigs certainly kept the children amused for hours. Marcus and Madelleine the hosts were wonderful. Helpful, friendly and a pleasure to meet. YOU MUST STAY HERE! I really can't find fault with it.
Guest rating:
These two properties provided a superb 'get away from it all' location for our large family group. From a 5 yr old to 70+ yr old there was no end of fun things to do. Daily morning visits to the bakery, cycle rides, many, many hours playing in the wonderful pool and much much more. There was plenty of space in the beautiful property for all, with lots of lovely outdoor seating areas all over.
The large number of photos on the website give you a good impression, but it was even nicer than we expected.
Madeleine and Marcus were great hosts, making us feel very welcome and keen to help us get the most out of our holiday. Our thanks again to them both!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Farmhouse, with 11 in our party we found we had plenty of room to accommodate all of us, with some people choosing to relax in the beautiful pool area and some preferring to play pool in the games room. The house was immaculate and the attention to detail was fantastic. Particular highlights were all the animals ... the chickens and their chicks following us to dinner and hoovering up the crumbs from our croissants in the morning, as well as the goats and guinea pigs providing lots of entertainment. We loved the markets at Chalais and Riberac, as well as the river beach at Aubeterre, Madeleine and Marcus were really helpful in recommending places to visit! Thank you for an absolutely wonderful holiday all round, we had a brilliant time! :) xxx

My family took the farmhouse and the Cottage for the first two weeks in July for my parents 40th wedding anniversary. The owners, Madeleine and Marcus could not have been more helpful, from the initial booking to assisting in arranging the party on the Saturday evening they were brilliant. The attached houses are in the most beautiful setting with stunning views across a valley of fields. They are well maintained and nicely decorated inside with all the mod cons you could possible want while still maintaining a rustic feel. The gardens and pool are well maintained and so lovely to while away the hours in. The terrace areas are very pleasant for al fresco dining too. Our group was made up of all ages from a 6 year old, teenager through to my sprightly 86 year old grandmother, there was something for everyone. There were books, DVDs, Ping-Pong table, snooker table, lots of bikes which we used a lot cycling around and to get the bread in the local village every morning. There are also numerous animals, perfect to entertain small children, our personal favourites were William and Mary the goats who we fed old bread to daily, the tiny fluffy chicks and the cockerel Monty. Although remote with plenty of beautiful walks and bike rides you are also close to numerous pretty villages for days or evenings out. Perfect place for a party too. Madeleine and Marcus helped us arrange the most enjoyable evening meal for 22 people with a fantastic chef and waiter. It was a very happy and memorable evening lit by twinkly t-lights and fairy lights. I would have no hesitate to recommending The Farmhouse and I am quite sure we will be returning.
