Peyrillault is a former 17th Century farming hamlet, located in lovely countryside just 7km from the market town of Riberac and just 3 km from the villages of St Meard and Celles, both of which have boulangeries - ideal for the morning breakfast run! There are two cottages on the property, Mistral and Zéphèrine which are available for self-catering holidays. Mistral cottage sleeps up to 6 people and Zepherine sleeps 4 (2 adults and 2 children). Both cottages are set within pretty (at times magical) gardens, with lovely views over fields of sunflowers, maize and wheat, and have areas suitable for outdoor eating and barbecues. They share the use of the swimming pool. The latter (9.5 m x 5 m) is set in a sunny courtyard furnished with sunbeds and parasols. The cottages are simple and rustic but are well equipped with UK Freeview television, a DVD player, mini cd player, a selection of books, board games and dvds.
Mistral cottage's ground floor
- Large and very pretty kitchen/dining room - with original features such as a stone sink and fireplace (with wood burning stove). The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, gas oven, fridge freezer, toaster, coffee percolator, etc. The table comfortably seats 6 people. The room has wooden floors.
- Light and airy sitting room - with lovely views across garden and meadow. The room is furnished with three 2-seater sofas, a small radio/cd player and a television (Freeview access) with dvd player. The room has terracotta floors.
- Double bedroom - which opens out onto a pretty shaded courtyard.
- Shared bathroom with wc, washbasin and slipper bath with handheld shower
First floor
- Large double bedroom (in a separate 'wing' to the other first floor double bedroom). This is a large light attic room with good head room! Please note that this room provides flexible accommodation as it is furnished with one double bed and two singles.
- Double bedroom - with ensuite shower room (with a large shower) and adjoining dressing / private sitting room with beautiful views across the fields and valley.
Outside areas
- There is a pretty cottage garden with lawn and flowerbeds (which attract butterflies, hummingbird hawk moths, beetles, hares etc) and a parking area to the front of the property. To the rear of the property, there is a private paved courtyard area suitable for barbecues and perfectly located for viewing the spectacular sunsets. We provide garden furniture such as tables, chairs, parasols, sunbeds, etc.
Péyrillault, a former farming hamlet with two holiday cottages, is located between the villages of Celles and St Victor and just 15 minutes away from the market town of Ribérac. The property is set in lovely and peaceful countryside with wonderful views of the surrounding rolling hills, woodland and fields of sunflowers, wheat and maize.
There are many attractive and historic towns to visit nearby including: picturesque Aubeterre with its monolithic church and Sunday morning market; Bourdeilles with its castle (a feudal fortress and a renaissance palace) perched over the river; Brantome which is built on a river island and is known as the 'Venice of the Perigord '; and, the historic city of Périgueux, which is the capital of the Dordogne, famed for its five domed Cathedral and its web of medieval, cobbled streets.
There are also caves with prehistoric paintings and impressive stalagmite/ stalactite formations at Villars (and Lascaux, La Grotte du Grand Roc, etc for day trips), and numerous impressive chateaux and gardens to visit throughout the area.
There are wonderful auberges and restaurants to try out, including two with Michelin stars in nearby Brantome. For those keen to get an authentic flavour of rural French life most towns have weekly markets. Ribérac on market day is a must! The famous vineyards and 'caves' of Bergerac and Bordeaux are also within easy reach for wine tasting day trips!
It is possible to wind-surf and swim at the Lac de Lajemaye, canoe at numerous places on the River Dronne, play tennis in our local village and golf near Perigueux. There are also a number of riding stables and a flying club in the district. The beautiful white sand beaches of the Atlantic coast and the incredible Dune de Pyla can also easily be reached for day trips.
Peyrillault is perfect for those who appreciate nature and wildlife (from strange and wonderful insects to wild boars). It is located in beautiful countryside which is ideal for cycling (there are hills though!), horse riding, walking, bird / insect and wild flower spotting (we have 7 species of wild orchid growing in our meadow and garden), painting and drawing.

How to get to Mistral Cottage
By Air:
There are a number of options. The first and easiest, is to fly to Bergerac and pick up a hire car. The journey to Péyrillault takes about 50 minutes. Other options are to fly to Paris and then take the TGV to Angouleme (and then pick up a hire car) or fly to Bordeaux and pick up a hire car there. The drive from Angouleme takes less than an hour (approximately the same time to Bergerac); from Bordeaux, about two hours.
By Rail:
Take the Eurostar to Paris or Lille and then the TGV to Angouleme. It costs about the same from either city, and takes about the same length of time. There is a larger choice of trains from Paris, but it does mean you have to change stations.
By Car:
St Malo is the nearest channel port, and Calais the furthest. From Angouleme head for Périgueux but at La Rochebeaucourt take the D708 towards Riberac.
