Beautifully Restored Quercy Farmhouse Gite with private pool and wifi
This lovely 18th century stone farmhouse has been carefully restored to a high standard, at the same time keeping a cool and spacious farmhouse atmosphere.
Vieux Mirou is on the border of the Tarn-et-Garonne and Lot-et-Garonne departments of South West France, and in an ideal situation to explore this most beautiful of regions. There are the famous three rivers, the Tarn, the Lot and the Garonne, and the Dordogne of course, all different and each spectacular in their own ways. There are many Chateaux, some for exploring and some for wine tasting. There are also lots of Bastide towns clinging to the tops of hills, with fantastic views, and their history of the 100 Years War, many being on the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostella. Even older historical interest is in the caves where our ancestors lived and drew their animal pictures. The rivers form this wonderful rolling countryside and give the fertile soil for fruit, wheat, maize, lavender and sunflowers, and leave the lovely white stone of the Quercy Blanc region.
Altogether Vieux Mirou is in one of the most beautiful, tranquil and unspoilt areas of France.

Downstairs
The front entrance leads to:
- An impressive hallway with exposed roof beams, a wooden staircase and open mezzanine area.
- There is a cloakroom with washbasin and toilet.
- A downstairs bedroom (Bedroom 1) with a double bed and ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet.
- The spacious sitting area to the right of the front door features a large traditional fireplace, and also has an ancient carved stone basin. Passing through a large open stone doorway there is:
- A spacious dining area with dining table and chairs, and to the right:
- A large kitchen area with table and benches and lots of extra work surface and cupboards. The equipment includes double sink, washing machine, dishwasher, new gas cooker, toaster, microwave, fridge freezer and a Barbeque which can be used inside or out.
Double French doors lead to the garden area and swimming pool.
Upstairs
The spacious galleried landing and mezzanine has a bed-settee for occasional use by prior arrangement and lots of books and games. The bedrooms comprise:-
- Bedroom 2 - has a double bed and ensuite shower, toilet and washbasin.
- Bedroom 3 - has 2 single beds and ensuite shower, toilet and washbasin.
- Bedroom 4 - has a double bed and shares a large bathroom with Bathroom 5.
- Bedroom 5 - has 2 single beds.
- The bathroom has 2 washbasins, toilet and shower.
All rooms have clothes hanging and storage facilities.
On-site entertainment includes TV with video player, table tennis table, French boules and a dart board and we have just obtained Wifi connection.
The farmhouse is completely centrally heated for the winter but stays cool and airy when really hot in the summer months. We have fantastic views of the countryside from the property which have to be seen to be believed.
An annexe is available for up to 6 further guests in 2 bedrooms - please ask for details.
Outside
The garden has a large terrace area with table and plenty of chairs and sunshades. There are potted plants and shrubs, some trees for shadey areas, and lighting in the garden and pool for long warm summer evenings spent outside.
The 9m x 4m swimming pool is fitted with a salt water system. It is floodlight and is for the sole use of guests in the farmhouse. The whole area of house, garden and pool can be made quite secure for the peace of mind of parents with wandering toddlers. The pool is walled and fenced so children cannot enter without parents opening the gate.
The area around Vieux Mirou is rich in natural beauty, natural history and actual history: Within sight of Vieux Mirou is the silver dome at the top of Penne d'Agenais where Richard I (Lionheart) of England built defences in the 12th Century. There is evidence of Roman occupation at Villeneuve sur Lot and Cahors and a few miles north of Cahors are the world famous cave paintings of Lascaux.
To the south is are the impressive towns of Montauban with its amazing rose coloured brickwork, and Moissac with the UNESCO world heritage site at the Abbey and Cloisters.
To the north of the river Lot there are two impressive castles, Biron and Bonaguil, both a good visit, and onward to the pretty medieval bastide towns of Villereal, Monflanquin and Issigeac.
The River Lot is within a few miles, with plenty of opportunity for water based activities, or if you fancy a day at the beach there are leisure lakes (Base de Loisir) at Montaigu de Quercy and Montcuq among others which have safe lifeguard swimming, a range of activities and restaurants or bars.
From Vieux Mirou the view is over fields, and the area around has a very large number of different crops growing: besides the usual cereal and sunflower crops you will find a range of soft fruit, walnuts, hazelnuts, melons and other vegetables. Many of these go direct to local markets where you can buy the freshest and most delicious produce direct from the producer to make the finest meals. A guide to the local markets is readily available.
If you are in France, there must be wine! And there is.... Within 5 miles you are into the depths of the Cahors AOC wine growing region with many producers offering tastings and direct sales - and some sell diret at the markets as well.
And for something completely different..... please search Le Stelsia - a colourful vibrant park on the outskirts of Saint Sylvestre sur Lot - Manicured grounds to wander in, and a restaurant of repute to dine in, and within 5 miles (7km) of Vieux Mirou.
