The Ferry service from Folkestone to Calais is no longer operating

Passenger ferries no longer operate from Folkestone, however, you can still travel between Folkestone and Calais on the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle service.

Alternatively, the port of Dover is a 20 minute drive away where ferries operate to Calais and Dunkerque (Dunkirk).

 

                                                       

If you are travelling to France from southern England and don’t want to go as far east as Dover then the Ferry crossing from Poole to St Malo could be a more convenient option for you.

This route, run by Condor Ferries, is great for those who wish to limit the driving hours down to the southern regions of France. Arriving in St Malo also means that you will bypass the often arduous task of driving through Paris. The Ferry itself runs once per day and the journey takes around 7 hours.

Brittany Ferries offer a fast way to get to France from the South of England and London with their Fast Craft Normandy Express Ferry which gets you to Cherbourg in less than 3 hours. There are two daily crossings as well as a comfortable lounge and on board facilities. Condor Ferries also offer a service to from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.

Portsmouth to Cherbourg is a really convenient route to take if you are planning on driving down to the south of France because it takes hours off of your driving time once you get to France. It also means that you will not have to drive through Paris to reach your destination.

Transmanche Ferries offer a ferry service that takes you from Portsmouth to Le Havre. Ferries run throughout the year with the crossing taking around 8 hours.

This route is an ideal solution if you are travelling to the south of France but want to cut some hours off of the time you will spend driving through France. Transmanche Ferries have a great range of facilities to make the time fly while you are on board such as restaurants, shops and games rooms.

Brittany Ferries offer an overnight Ferry service that will take you at a leisurely pace from Portsmouth to St Malo.

There are comfortable sleeper cabins available so that you can start your drive the following day feeling refreshed. There are also extensive on board facilities such as shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities.

Transmanche Ferries offer a service that runs from Newhaven in Portsmouth to Dieppe in the Normandy region of North West France. This is a great option for those travellers who are would prefer less driving time in France but don’t mind a slightly longer ferry crossing. The Ferry takes around four hours and runs three times a day.

The Newhaven port is also one of the closest ferry ports to London so if you are travelling from or through the capital this could be the best option for you. Similarly Dieppe is also the closest port to Paris so this ferry is perhaps the best route for those taking a weekend city break in Paris.

The Ferry from Portsmouth to Caen is the most popular route provided by Brittany Ferries, largely because of the conveniently placed ports with excellent road links on either side of the Channel.

There are three different ferries that operate on this route, two of which are leisurely 6 or 7 hour crossings. There is also a high speed alternative which can get you to France in just 3 ¾ hours.

There are cabins available on overnight ferry crossings and the ferries are well equipped with shops, restaurant and leisure and entertainment facilities to keep you occupied during your crossing.
