There are currently no direct ferry routes operating from Folkestone harbour to France although it is the UK terminal for the Eurotunnel channel tunnel crossing.

Folkestone is located in Kent on the South East coast of England next to the Straits of Dover, and just off the main M20 motorway to London, conveniently placed for traffic using the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais.

Folkestone is a resort town with excellent communications to London and Europe, and is the home of the Folkestone Eurotunnel passenger terminal taking freight vehicles and cars through the Channel Tunnel to the terminal at Coquelles in Calais faster than any other cross channel service. At the Folkestone Terminal family oriented facilities include family/baby changing rooms and a Welcome Break eating area, plus some useful shops.

Folkestone itself is a traditional Victorian seaside town experiencing a rebirth of late, particularly in the arts, especially around the disused harbour area. The town also has a long history being one of the major staging points for millions of soldiers departing for the trenches of France during the First World War. Nearby there are attractive villages and towns including Hythe and Sandgate.

For the nearest direct ferry route to France we recommend the Dover to Calais ferry crossing, as Dover is about 20 minutes by car from Folkestone.
