La Châtaigneraie offers 3 well equipped gîtes and 5 en-suite B&B rooms in the heart of the Pyrénées. We have 2 acres of gardens to explore with a swimming pool, gym, boules court, and breath-taking mountain views.

It is only a 10 minute walk into the village of Sahorre which has a bistro and a handful of small shops whilst the famous spa town of Vernet les Bains is less than 2 miles away, with a wider selection of shops, activities and restaurants. This stunning area is steeped in culture and history with several of France’s most beautiful villages within a short drive.

A paradise for sports enthusiasts with a huge range of sports and activities available nearby – from mountain biking to white water rafting – even the most active group could find a different activity for every day! If you prefer to simply relax by the pool, the area is renowned as the sunniest in France with a glorious 320 days of sunshine every year. Beautiful all year round, just 45 minutes from either beaches or ski resorts we really offer the best of both worlds.

Holiday Accommodation at La Capsole

A beautifully renovated, fully self-contained apartment taking the whole top floor of La Chataigneraie.  Fabulous mountain views all around, the apartment comfortably accommodates up to 10 people and comprises:

• A well-equipped kitchen including microwave and dishwasher
• Master bedroom with large en-suite bathroom including a corner bath and separate shower cubicle
• 2nd double bedroom with en-suite shower room
• 3 twin bedrooms (one with bunk beds)
• Family bathroom
• A further separate cloakroom
• Large living room has a dining area with seating for 10 people, widescreen television with surround-sound DVD player and English TV channels and gorgeous log-burner, making it suitable for year-round use. 

Outside

Guests have full use of all facilities including gym, swimming pool and boules court.and 2 acres of gardens.  The apartment has a dedicated poolside gazebo with gas barbeque that will comfortably seat 10+ people.

About Sahorre in Pyrénées-Orientales, Languedoc Roussillon

La Chataigneraie is located in the peaceful Pyrenean village of Sahorre in the Rotja Valley, within the Parc Naturel Regionel de Pyrenees Catalanes. Sahorre has a bistro and a handful of small shops whilst the famous spa town of Vernet les Bains is less than 2 miles away, with a wider selection of shops, activities and restaurants.

This stunning area is steeped in culture and history with several of France’s most beautiful villages within a short drive. The famous fortified medieval village of Villefranche de Conflent is 5 miles away. This is also the starting point for the Petit Train Jaune which takes you on spectacular journey up the Tet Valley to the Spanish border. It takes you over viaducts, through tunnels and over the Pont Gisclard suspension bridge with dramatic views at every turn. 

The larger town of Prades is about 8 miles away and offers regular markets and a great choice of restaurants. This area is a paradise for sports enthusiasts with a huge range of sports and activities available nearby – from mountain biking to white water rafting, even the most active group could find a different activity for every day!  If you prefer to simply relax by the pool, the area is renowned as the sunniest in France with a glorious 320 days of sunshine every year.

How To Get To Sahorre in Pyrénées-Orientales, South of France and the Riviera

By Air:

The nearest airport is Perpignan, a 40 minute drive away and well-served by both Ryanair and Flybe. Other options include Bezier (1.5 hours), Girona (1.5 hours) and Carcassonne (2 hours). 

By Rail:

For most people a car would be essential to make the most of all this beautiful area has to offer.  However, it is only 8 hours by train from London St Pancras to Perpignan, followed by a local train service to Villefranche de Conflent.  We would be happy to arrange to collect guests plus luggage and bikes from Villefranche and this could be a good option for mountain bikers!

By Car from Perpignan:

Take the N116 towards Andorra and Prades, continue on to Villefranche de Conflent
At the roundabout in Villefranche take the first exit towards andorra, then take the first left, the D6, sign-posted to Sahorre
Follow the D6 through Fuilla (Bas, Mileu and Haute)

Drive straight through Sahorre following signs for Vernet les Bains

About 1/2 mile after leaving the village you will find La Chataigneraie on your left, opposite the Musee de la Mine.
