Mas D'en Gariste is a luxuriously restored 18th. century farmhouse, full of charm and character, nestled amongst peach orchards and cherry groves. It is situated in a tranquil hamlet in the heart of breathtaking countryside, yet only a few minutes from the "chic" historic market town of Thuir.

The garden approx. 1 acre, formerly a kiwi fruit farm divides into 3 areas. The first contains a very necessary shaded area, in which there is a small flower garden with a "conversational bench" and a table and chairs suitable for aperitifs.

The second part of the garden houses a large private swimming pool (10 by 5m’s) which is fully enclosed,  has lockable gates, making it safe for families with young children. The pool is fully maintained for your enjoyment. The pool is surrounded by a patio and lawned area ensuring that there is sufficient space for sunbathing and complete relaxation. Sunbeds are provided and there is a poolside shower.

The third part of the garden has a large grass area and is a great play area for all ball games, ideal for children to play football.

The main entrance opens into a large hall leading to three rooms.

• The first being a large, traditional farmhouse kitchen (approx. 6.5 x 5m ). Exposed beams and a aga cooking range are just some of the features in this room. Double doors open out to a stream that runs at the back of the house, where there is a beautiful view of Mt. Canigou (King of the Pyrenees). There is a large oak dining table, dishwasher, fridge freezer, gas hob, with extractor fan, electric oven and microwave.
  The kitchen is well equipped with every appliance needed to self cater.
  Double doors off the kitchen lead into:
• The "peach bedroom" the third double bedroom. The room is quite large and will also fit a child’s cot, which can be provided on request. It has exposed beams and French windows overlooking the front garden.
• The second room from the hallway is a large luxurious bathroom. There is a double free-standing Victorian style bath, a large washbasin, toilet, bidet and separate shower unit. The lighting in this room can reflect your mood. There are spotlights that have a dimmer control, or should you prefer, there are wall candles for those a little more romantic.
• The third room from the hallway is a private storage area. There is a washing machine in this room that may be used if required.

The master staircase from the hall leads to the first floor of the house where you enter:

• The library/sitting room. Exposed beams, a wood burning fire and the original bread oven are features in this room. Bookcases contain a variety of reading material to cater for most tastes in holiday reading.

Leading from the sitting room is:

• The main lounge. This is a grand room (6.5 by 4.5 m) with a high sloping beamed ceiling. Again this room is full of charm and character with original stoned walls and a large wood burner.
  There are leather sofas and an arm chair. Extra beds can be provided in this room. For your added enjoyment we provide UK Satellite television, a DVD player and a stereo unit.

There are two sets of double doors in this room, the first lead to a balcony at the rear of the house where there is a spectacular view of Mt. Canigou and the surrounding peach orchards.
A further set of double doors lead to the dining terrace containing a large dining table and a cushioned iron sofa, which is perfect to relax on and gaze at the stars on balmy summer evenings.

Also leading from the sitting room is:

• The "yellow bedroom" which is the second double bedroom containing a cast iron double bed, built in walldrobe and an original stone sink.

The final door from the sitting room opens to a second staircase leading to a small landing on the second floor. From this landing there are three further rooms.

• The first is a shower room with a washbasin and toilet.
• The second is a small cabin bedroom with bunk beds.
• The third and final room is the master bedroom, containing a king-size bed. This room has windows to the front and rear of the house and is very pretty. Most of the walls on this floor are stone and have exposed beams.

Linen Packs.

A linen pack can be ordered at £5 per person per week.

This consists of all bed linen,  a hand and bath towel.

It does not include beach or pool towels.

If you are holidaying for 2 weeks you can opt for a 1 week linen pack and wash your own bedding mid holiday.

"Gourmet Meal Service"

Let me cook for you! Choose from an extensive menu and have a restaurant quality meal cooked in your holiday kitchen and served on the floodlit terrace under the stars.

There are no worries of drinking and driving or concerns with over tired young children, and there is no washing up. It is also great to give mum a well earned rest.

There are numerous client comments in the house book, which just might tempt you into ordering this rather unique service.

Twenty-four hours notice is required as all meals are prepared completely fresh.

This is often popular on the day of arrival as after a long days travel you are sure of a good meal. It is also popular on the night before departure as the last day can be fully enjoyed, with your only task being to prepare for your departure.

Wine Tour

Visit a local winery (run by an Englishman) see and taste some of the finest wines of this region.

10e per person (children welcome). Should you stay for lunch which is very worth while as you are served with the wines you have just tasted, a further 12e per person is required.

Horse riding can be arranged locally where (even complete beginners) you can ride through the vineyards and rivers. The cost being around 25e for 2 hours.

About the location

The sun kissed Mediterranean Beaches, cosmopolitan Perpignan, Spain and the Pyrenees Mountains are all within 30 minutes drive. The winter ski resorts are just one hour away.
