Au Compte is the perfect setting for a relaxed holiday. Just the thing for families during the school holidays, but also for those looking for some peace and tranquillity during term-time when flights are cheap.

Au Compte is an appealing hilltop hamlet of just 5 houses, on the borders of the Dordogne and the Lot et Garonne with wonderful views stretching over 20 kms. The surrounding area comprises gently rolling hills covered with vineyards and fields of bright yellow sunflowers.  There are several marked footpaths accessed from the house.

The nearest village, Loubès-Bernac, the highest in the Lot et Garonne, has a bar/restaurant, excellent village store and post office and is 3 minutes in the car or a gentle 25-minute walk. Bordeaux 70 kms, St Emilion, 47 kms, Bergerac, 20 kms, Duras 15kms

A 5-course meal is offered on arrival – very useful if arriving after 7pm, or the owner can shop for your basic provisions.  In addition the owner would be happy to prepare meals during your stay and also provide a babysitting service.  Escorted tours of the bastide towns, châteaux and vineyards are also available.

At Easter and during May, June and September, the accommodation can be available midweek to take advantage of the low cost flights from Stansted, Southampton, Exeter, Birmingham and Bristol, to Bergerac just 20 minutes away. June and September are wonderful months with hot (29°C), sunny days when the pool temperature is at least 24°C. 
 

These very comfortable, self-contained gîtes are part of a 17th century farmhouse.  Each has their own private garden with barbecue area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher etc.  There is an additional sofa bed in the sitting rooms.  The dining area of La Grange will easily accommodate thirteen people when both properties are reserved together.

The large solar heated swimming pool area is set well away from the gîtes in the furthermost part of the garden.  There are 2 pools (8mx4m) both with security alarms and over 100m2 of sunbathing terrace, surrounded by trees, fields and lawns.  One pool, being shallow, is particularly suitable for young children.

The 2-acre garden of lawns, mature shrubs and woodland trees, is full of wildlife – glow-worms, stick insects, praying mantis, hedgehogs, nightingales, squirrels etc.  A pair of binoculars is really useful for watching the birds of prey.

• Living room of 45m2 - providing sitting room (CD and DVD players)and dining area  and a fully fitted kitchen with microwave/grill, electric oven, gas hob, washing machine and dishwasher 
• Double bedroom + single bed -  22m2 - with private shower and WC
• Double bedroom - 16m2 with balcony
• Twin bedroom - with views towards Bergerac
• Bathroom - with WC

Outside:

Private garden with barbecue and deck for outside dining.

About the location

Wine tasting – hundreds of local vineyards, many within walking distance, as well as the more famous area of St Emilion just 40 minutes

The Bastides – centuries-old towns with arched central squares. The nearest are Eymet, Ste Foy la Grande, and Monségur

The Dordogne - and its châteaux at Beynac, Biron, amongst others

Markets – including the favourite on Sunday at Soumensac - buy the local produce and sit under the trees with the locals to eat a leisurely lunch with bottles of chilled rose, red or white wine

Antiques, Bric a Brac - locally called vide grenier literally meaning empty your attic. There are lots during the summer where you can pick up bargains

Tennis – courts at St Sernin – 20 minutes

Golf – Château des Vigiers – a country-club style course 10 minutes by car

Water parks – 2 within a 10-minute drive, with everything to keep them amused.

Cycling – long empty roads and cross country tracks – we can hire bikes for you

Rambling – marked routes through vineyards, fields and woods – directly from the house and dozens more within 10 minutes drive

Horse riding – a stable just down the road – a 10-minute walk

Canoeing – on the Dordogne and the Visere

Eating – there are so many restaurants – prices from 12€ to 50€

Airports

Car rental is available

• Bergerac – 20 minutes journey time –flights from Ryanair and Flybe from Stansted, Bristol, East Midlands, Liverpool, Southampton, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick and Exeter
• Bordeaux – 1 hour 30 minutes - UK flights
• Toulouse – around 2 hours – UK flights

Road 

Paris  6 hours; Channel ports 8/10 hours

• Portsmouth/St Malo ferry crossing leaves you the shortest drive this side of 6½  hours approximately

Rail

• TGV to Libourne – nearest stations Ste Foy la Grande or Bergerac – car rental available

Additional price information

• Dinner available on arrival for an additional 12 euros per person
• Both cottages may be let together
• A 25% deposit is required with the confirmation.  The remaining 75% is payable no later than 8 weeks before arrival, together with a security deposit of 200€ per property.
• Prices are weekly, Saturday to Saturday during July and August, but can be midweek during Easter, May, June and September.  Arrival after 4pm, departure before 10am.
• Prices include electricity, gas and all bed linen and towels of good quality.  Towels for the pool are not supplied.
