La Chataigne is a stylish house, conveniently located 45 minutes from Toulouse Airport, set in peaceful undulating countryside at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains. In this idyllic rural location surrounded by miles of beautiful countryside, rolling hills, valleys and farmland, the house stands in its own grounds, providing plenty of private space for BBQs, eating, playing table tennis, badminton, boules or simply relaxing and using the large paddling pool - perfect for cooling down on a hot summer's day.

There are beautiful woodland walks signed from the door step, the immediate surroundings are also excellent for cycling, and with ski stations only 1 hour away, this is a wonderful base for people interested in mountain activities.

There is an abundance of wildlife in the area – deer, wild boar, red squirrels, buzzards and falcons.

The house has been finely renovated ensuring that style and comfort are met in abundance. There are many original features throughout including an old stone sink and exposed oak beams. Great care has been taken in sourcing interesting, beautiful and practical furnishings. The house is light and spacious - it faces south so it's blessed with sunlight on its face throughout the day.

Accommodation detail

Ground Floor

• Kitchen is large and well equipped with a range cooker and all the essentials needed to cook up a feast. The old French refectory table seats 8 perfectly, whilst a charming pair of leather club chairs provide a more relaxed place to sit. The kitchen opens onto the terrace, making it simple to eat outside.
• Living room is lovely with two large sofas, here you will find a nice selection of films, games and books. A DVD and Video player is provided. There is also a CD player, and Hi-Fi for connection of I-pod 's.

First Floor

• Main bedroom has a super king sized four-poster bed made from 150 year old hand carved Indian columns.
• Second double bedroom retains the original stone wall.
• Bathroom has a loo and large double-ended bath - perfect for relaxing in.
• Shower room with loo.

Second Floor

• Two very spacious twin rooms in the attic with exposed charactered oak beams. One of the rooms has two beautifully carved bateau-lits.

Outside

• Large terrace at front and side of house with tables, chairs, bbq, deck chairs, large parasol, boules, table tennis, badminton, large paddling pool, and plenty of space for relaxing.

About the location

The house is situated in the Haute Garonne, South West France, a 45 minute drive from Toulouse and 6km from medieval Aurignac. This really lovely historic town has a museum, swimming pool, a couple of small bars and restaurants, a post office and essential shops.

St Gaudens is a larger town 25 minutes away with supermarkets, a larger range of shops, and a large market. The house is about 10 minutes drive to the A64 motorway, which takes you either to Toulouse or in the opposite direction towards Biarritz and Spain.

Both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean are about two hours away.

The region is agricultural, growing sunflowers, maize, cereals, garlic, seed crops and fruit. Long stable periods of good weather are required to cultivate these crops.

here are an amazing number of beautiful clear sunny days, average summer temperatures are in the low 30's centigrade. The pace of life here is relaxed, the people friendly and the local gastronomy renowned…garlic, duck, foie gras, confit, cassoulet, and, of course the lovely wines of the region (Fronton, Cahors, Duras, Buzet, Madiran).

People come here for a way of life that has long since disappeared in most parts of England.
