Stunning Riverside Property Set in 15 Acres

Le four a Sel is a group of 3 Holiday homes situated in a quiet village 2km from Montignac, Dordogne, in South West France. This 15 acre property  beside the Vezere river is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Secluded but not isolated, it is only 10 minutes from shops and restaurants in Montignac, home of the prehistoric Lascaux caves, and 24 km from Sarlat with many tourist sites just 30 minutes away.

Self catering accommodation for 2 to 30 people is in 3 separate houses. Villa Orchidee, Villa Hibiscus, and Villa Mimosa. Each house is independent and can be rented individually or in tandem so you still have your privacy and yet can enjoy each other's company whilst on holiday. • covered play area with a Table Tennis and Basketball net;
• an outdoor playground with swings, slides, football net, badminton net & climbing frame,
• a Swimming pool (fenced and alarmed)
• Courtyard for boules or badminton, 
• Covered terrace for al fresco dining in the shade 
• Private fishing from dawn to dusk on half a kilometer of our river frontage.

Villa Orchidee, the main house, has 6 bedrooms, all ensuite,sleeps 15-17 There is a 7th bedroom with a double bed (no private bathroom). The dining room/lounge is very spacious and is large enough to seat up to 30 people. The house still retains all its original features such as ancient oak beams and stone walls. The rooms are on the ground and first floor.

Villa Hibiscus, is a bright and airy 4 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms,sleeps 8. Being southeast facing it enjoys long hours of sunshine and has stunning views of the cornfields, the garden and the pool from the bedroom windows.

Villa Mimosa is  cosy and comfortable stone cottage with 2 bedrooms,sleeps 5, ideal for two to five guests. Special reduced rates for couples only are available. Facing south-east, Villa Mimosa enjoys long hours of sunshine.

Both the swimming pool and the river are protected by a fence and gate to keep children safe. Wifi is available in the house and hotspots within the property.

Our garden and orchard is dotted with various fruit and walnut trees that offer a welcome shade in the summer. Help yourself to any of the fruits that are in season-eat them fresh or make some home made pies-figs, pear, apple, plum, picked by you fresh from the garden just outside your villa.

We have 14 acres of land so there is a lot of space for children to run around safely and for adults to find their own private space for relaxation.Sun loungers, deck chairs and parasols provide comfortable sitting around the pool area and more of these are provided by the river where you can fish privately.

We can host special group events such as yoga retreats, birthday gatherings, anniversaries, large family holidays, walking groups and reunions. We have an in house chef if you require catering. So whatever it is that you are looking for from your venue, please do not hesitate to enquire.

We are open all year and the Dordogne is a wonderful place to visit even outside of the summer period. The Villas have wall mounted electric heaters making it suitable for use also in the cooler months. Villa Orchidee and Vill Hibiscus also have a wood burning stove in the lounge. Reduced rates for long lets and special rates for couples only in Villa Mimosa. Please enquire via email for details.

Holiday Accommodation at 3 Holiday Homes with Pool

Self catering  accommodation  in Le four a Sel  is in  3 separate  renovated farnmhouses to accommodate from 2-30 people.

• Villa Orchidee, is a 7 bedroom, 5 bathroom house sleeping 15-17
• Villa Hibiscus, is a 4 bedroom 1 bathroom house sleeps 8
• Villa Mimosa is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house for 5.

Each house is independent  and can be rented individually or in tandem  so you still have your privacy and yet can enjoy each other's company whilst on holiday. (Please click on the individual tabs to see more details and photos of each house).

Facilities onsite are:

Dining Room:  Each property has an inside and outside dining area. 24 people can dine together in Orchidee. The Covered Terrace can seat 20 people. The Coverd Play Area can be cleared to seat 30. There are other areas for communal dining possibilities(if the weather is good) :  Tables and chairs can be laid out in the gardens outside the 2 villas for al fresco dining.  Benches, Tables and chairs can also be laid out by the river for that special riverside ambience. BBQ units are provided for each gite. The BBQ for Orchidee  is suitable to cook  for  the whole group

Covered Play Area:  An open barn in the courtyard equipped with table tennis, and basketball net .

Covered Terrace: Opposite the covered play area- perfect for gathering  around  for drinks or board games.

Pool-10m x 4m- fenced and alarmed for safety, is located in the edn of the gardens outside the 2 villas(Hibiscus and Mimosa). Sun loungers, benches and parasols are provided .

450 m of River Frontage for Private Fishing onsite from dawn to Dusk There is a fence which prevents unsupervised access to the river, making it safe for families with children.

Outdoor Playground- with swings, climbing frame, slide, see saw, wooden play house and sandpit; football net and badminton net.

Courtyard- perfect for a game of boules

About Aubas in Dordogne, Aquitaine

The property is in Aubas, a quiet sleepy village 2km from Montignac, site of the famous prehistoric Lascaux caves. Montignac is a charming town with beautiful stone and timbered houses and lovely cafes and restaurants by the river.  It has a lively market on Wednesdays.

In July Montignac hosts a colorful week long music & dance festival that culminates in a wonderful fireworks display. The area around us offers a multitude of fascinating activities and sites no more than an hour's drive: troglodyte shelters, stalactite caves, stunning gardens, fairy tale castles, fortified towns built on cliffs with magnificent views of the valley. The area is great for walking or cycling with paths properly marked for different capabilities. Bikes are available for hire from a shop just 10 minutes walk away. 

There is so much to see and do suitable for adults and children of all ages: Canoeing down the Dordogne, horseriding, hot air ballooning, falconry displays, a corn maze. There is an aquarium parc just 35 minutes away, with special events like dive feeding of sturgeon and carp and a diver show. Sarlat, a medieval town is just half an hour away and has a huge Saturday market not to be missed. During the summer you will find many street performers and musicians entertaining in  its square and cobbled alleys. Great atmosphere in the evenings. For wine lovers, Bergerac  and Cahors are not far away (1.5 hrs) while Bordeaux, for beaches and more vineyards, is a 2 hour drive and can be done as a day trip.

For those wanting to combine golf with sightseeing and gastronomy during their holiday, there are 3 golf courses near us, one of them (18 hole) is just 40 minutes drive. We can arrange your own tee off time.

There are many interesting festivals from June - September: Hat festival, Mime festival, scarecrow festival, Jazz Festival - as well as  day and night markets to sample the local delicacies, cheese and wine. You will find that the 2 weeks is simply not enough to explore and enjoy this region.

How To Get To Aubas in Dordogne, South West France

Nearest airports are Bergerac and Limoges, 1.5 hours by car. These are served by Ryan Air and BMI Baby. Bordeaux Airport is 1 hour 45 minutes away. Poitiers, now served by Ryan air, is 3 hours away.

From Calais, it is an 8 hour drive or if  going through Paris, this can be reduced to 7 hours. St.Malo is 6.5 hours away.

From Paris it is a 4 hour journey and the nearest train station to us is Condat (10 minutes away) or Brive La Gaillarde (25 minutes away).
