Tavion - Peaceful Cottage close to historic town in the Cévennes
For your stay in southern France Patricia and Brian Wills offer you a spacious modernised, self-catering gite (62 sq m) close to their 135-year-old maison de maitre. It sleeps 3 but is ideal for 2. Through the trees you can see Anduze, the historic market town at the edge of the Cévennes locally famed for its café terraces and a holiday buzz during the summer.
This is what makes it special and different:
- Ideal holiday location for a professional couple seeking secluded R&R with cable+wi-fi broadband.
- Flexible arrival/departure dates to suit low-cost travel arrangements.
- Pro-rata rates for bookings of 5 nights or more, with long-stay discounts.
- A never-knowingly-underequipped kitchen and dining area.
- Rural calm in a private garden with secure parking surrounded by attractive views of hills and vineyards.
- A sunny south-facing terrace ideal for outdoor eating and relaxing and a shaded rear garden if it gets too warm!
- Long-time resident bilingual hosts on hand for guidance on local attractions backed up by leaflets, maps and guidebooks.
- Boulangeries, restaurants and supermarkets in Anduze, the medieval 'Porte des Cévennes', only 5 minutes away by car, 10 minutes on a bicycle (hire facilities available), or 30 minutes on foot.
- For those who are keen about conserving energy the water is solar-heated.
- Nearby hill-walking and river-bathing amid the splendid scenery of the Cévennes hills.
- Mediterranean beaches and many historical 'Midi' towns within little more than an hour's drive.
Quotes about guests' special interests:
With a warren of quiet roads and ever-changing scenery, this is a superbly located gîte for cyclists of all capabilities, with flat and hilly options a-plenty." "As a keen cyclist I absolutely loved Chez Wills as a base for riding. ... Even after 6 weeks and 850 km of riding, still finding new routes. Cycling heaven!"
"The local footpaths are usually very easy to follow. With the map from the Tourist Info Office we walked every other day." "Not having a car we were able to enjoy the immediate area on foot including [5 hill-top destinations mentioned]". "Going up into the hills and finding everywhere beautiful corners, paths and little warm spaces ... treading on wild thyme."
"Listening to the birds singing all day, so nice and peaceful." "As birdwatchers, simply sunning and relaxing in the garden, binoculars in hand, produced [a list of] 40 different species." "We can add 2 more birds to the list." "Oh, and the nightingale was wonderful, though we'll have to save the golden oriole for another visit (written in May)."
"We loved being in your beautiful garden looking at the flowers and trees and listening to the birds singing." "We managed to identify a good selection of local butterflies (15+ per day)."
"Some excellent local wines, but Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a beautiful small village, well worth a look, [and] for the wine!"
We don't have a quote yet, but rock-climbers will find that Anduze is within easy reach of ten climbs mentioned in RockFax. And covered and open courts are within walking distance for tennis-players.

About Anduze in Gard, Languedoc Roussillon
The Languedoc area of France is nature at its best, from the Camargue to the eastern end of the Pyrenees; from the wild and lonely Causses to the sunny Mediterranean coast. Across the highly scented garrigue and the sun-soaked vineyards there is an incomparable variety of scenery and there are fascinating towns and villages to discover.
The Mediterranean sea is just over an hour’s drive to the south, and to the east are the Pont du Gard (1 hour), Avignon and Arles (both 1½ hours). But there are any number of other special places to visit: Nimes (for its Roman temple and arena); Uzès (a beautiful ‘Midi’ town); St Guilhem-le-désert (medieval pilgrimage village); the Cirque de Navacelles (a deep limestone valley on the Causse plateau); the Grotte des Demoiselles (one of the most impressive among several local caves); the world’s highest bridge at Millau, and so on.
You will find the staff in the Office de Tourisme in the centre of Anduze are friendly, and offer many leaflets about interesting local activities. There are several cafés to sit in for drinks and snacks, and you can choose among an excellent range of restaurants in the town. The big attractions are the local steam train (TVC: Train à Vapeur des Cévennes) that runs up the Gardon valley to St Jean du Gard, passing the Bambouseraie (the bamboo park of distinction that includes a beautiful landscaped Japanese garden).
For shopping, the town centre is only 2 km away, or 30 minutes on foot. The supermarket with most to offer is Super U. Otherwise a range of small shops sell such items as bread, medicines and newspapers (in several languages). A country market is held in the old town on Thursdays, and a flea market on Sundays. There are multilingual cash-points, three banks, and low-cost petrol and diesel are available from Super U and Intermarché. In the summer months the town attracts holiday-makers who give it a buzz that is said to be the envy of surrounding holiday locations.

How To Get To Anduze in Gard, South of France and the Riviera
The gite is located in our garden-and-orchard property off the main road for Nimes on the southern outskirts of Anduze, and overlooks the town.
Look for the tarred road opposite the main entrance of the builders' depot GEDIMAT MANEN, which is marked Tavion and Tourette. Keep turning left until you come to a U-bend, after which you'll see 345 WILLS on the letterbox by the first entrance on the right -- and then you have arrived!
Detailed directions about how to find the gite from motorways and airports are available on request.
See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and airports.

"We've really enjoyed our stay here, close to mountains, valleys, cities and villages, all with their special memories for us.
Pat and Brian's encyclopaedic knowledge and helpfulness, backed up by a superb collection of maps and guides, made day-to-day planning a real doddle!
The gite itself had every little thing we could ever need. All in all -- a wonderful time."
