St. Castor is a secluded hillside estate in Provence, near Avignon and Uzes, providing a beautiful holiday location for those wishing to explore the rich history and culture of the region, or to relax and enjoy the sunshine, food and scenery.

Built on the site of the 5th Century monastery of St. Castor, the estate is in an exquisite setting, with extensive flower gardens and terraces. There are ancient oaks, towering cypress trees and terraces with rows of lavender. The property has exceptional views over the surrounding vineyards and countryside.

The best of Roman France is within easy reach and there are numerous music and cultural festivals in the surrounding area. Many sporting activities are available locally, including canoeing, horseback riding, golf and river swimming. St. Castor is also in the heart of the Cote du Rhone wine-growing region with many of its most famous vineyards (such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape) only a short drive away.

St. Castor is open all year round. The owners live on the estate in their own house and are happy to advise guests on what to see and do in the area, to recommend restaurants and markets etc.

Holiday Accommodation at Well House

A modern conversion of an old stone house. There is

  • A kitchen/dining room (with dishwasher, microwave and washing machine) with glass doors which face out towards the private terrace (pictured above) with built in barbecue and lovely views.
  • The sitting room, which has exposed stone walls and an open fireplace, is equipped with TV, video and telephone.

Upstairs

  • There are four double bedrooms (each with en-suite shower and toilet) all with high ceilings and exposed beams.

The Well House and Apartment share the larger, lower swimming pool which is 44 x 18 feet with Roman steps.

Additional price information

Prices are inclusive of weekly linen changes, but guests are requested to bring their own swimming towels if possible.

Heating by electric radiators is available.

We would expect visitors to leave the houses in the same condition they find them. However, cleaning can be arranged for the day of departure if required. This costs eleven euros per hour.
