Home description

Ar Sparfel, built in 1977, with its patio, lawns and garden, is the last house in the tiny village of Kerabars and the nearest to the sea. The photographs give an idea of its magnificent sea views of the Tas de Pois (Heaps of Peas) and the Pointe de Dinan. A five minute walk from the house down a track brings you to a memorable sandy beach, Pörsmel, with fine rock formations and pools for shrimping and crab hooking.  A spectacular cliff-top walk the other way takes you in fifteen minutes to one of the most exciting often surfing beaches in Brittany

The peninsular has a temperate climate. In the mild spring, gorse and broom flare golden and there are carpets of primroses and wild flowers.  From June to September it can at times get incredibly warm, the colours are magnificent and many painters set up their easels before Breton scenes. In the Autumn the cliffs are covered with purple heather and the gales whip up frenzied seas, long remembered.   

A drive of 8 minutes brings you to the charming market town of Crozon with its daily market and many shops and a very good supermarket.   The same distance from the house in the opposite directions is Morgat, a flourishing seaside port with beach, windsurfing and sailing schools and many seafood restaurants.

About the location

Our house which is typical Breton seaside architecture is the last house in a small hamlet before you reach the cliff path.    Our sandy beach is 5 mins walk from the house and never gets crowded even in mid summer for there is no sign to it and the village is up a dead end road.   There are cliff walks in both directions.    The local market town of Crozon is 8 minutes drive away with a daily market, pretty square, church, restaurants, shops and several supermarkets.   Equadistant is Morgat, a sailing resort with quayside, beach, yachts, sailing school etc.    There is a fabulous view from our house of the sea with spectacular sunsets and distant lighthouses.   The medaeval city of Quimper is 45 mins drive away and many other interesting towns to explore with wonderful inexpensive restaurants serving seafood etc.  Camaret with its sailing port and seafood restaurants and creperies is 15mins drive away.

How to get here

By Road:

• Brittany Ferries: Plymouth to Roscoff (65 miles by road from Ar Sparfel); Portsmouth to St Malo (160 miles); Portsmouth to Caen (280 miles); or Poole to Cherbourg (270 miles).
•  Portsmouth to Cherbourg or Le Havre (320 miles).
• Sealink: Portsmouth and Weymouth to Cherbourg.

By Air: 

Cheap flights available with Ryanair from Luton to Brest and with Flybe from Birmingham, Exeter, Bristol and Southampton.  

Hertz, Avis and Eurocar car hire at Brest Airport.   Brest to house 50 miles.
