This may sound a little cliché, but if you’ve been trawling through advert after advert to find the perfect villa retreat……then I’ll save you some time, because you have just found it.
Being a seasoned traveller in many different guises, I’ve roughed it with a backpack, stayed in the very best hotels and rented many a villa. I can honestly say that Margaret Conner’s Provence Villa is by far the loveliest that I’ve ever had the good fortune to stumble upon.
There is an attention to detail here, and a want for nothing approach that tells you that it isn’t just a rental……it’s a home. Trust me, there is a huge difference.
The setting couldn’t be more perfect. Sedate and lovely Entracasteaux is just a matter of minutes away by car, where you can take in the beautiful, laid back ,typical Provence town with wonderful Chateau and stock up on essentials. You are within easy reach of countless, character filled, beautiful little places such as Cotignac (definitely worth a visit). Sillans de Cascade, Verdon Gorge, endless vineyards and still only a little over an hours drive to the likes of St Tropez.
It is however always nice to get back ‘home’……albeit a temporary rented one. But here I think is the difference…..you really do feel at home.
The pool is a joy and the outside space meticulously maintained and beautiful. The villa is tiered into the hillside and so the properties here (this isn’t an estate, it’s independently owned and built properties dotted amongst the hillside) enjoy their own very private, large space and you could easily forget that there might even be anyone else within miles of you. And the view!!! You look out across the tree tops into the rolling landscape of Provence……it is simply breathtaking.
This is a spacious villa, a beautiful one. Even the tiling throughout the several bathrooms I considered an old school French work of art. I honestly could not have wished for a more perfect place to relax.
The villas owner, Margaret, was an absolute pleasure to deal with, prompt and informative answers to any questions and a real sense that she cares. Extremely professional and an absolute delight.
I’m often quite busy (always in fact) …….I don’t generally post reviews, it takes something very special to make me want to. I didn’t just want to….. I felt compelled to.
I will be returning (that’s also something I never generally do) …..See, experience, move on, is normally my outlook. This Provence Villa will draw me back and there are very, very few places that do that.
So……stop looking and book the place, before somebody else gets the little slice of heaven that could be part of your fondest memories for years to come.Guest rating:
We have stayed at this delightful villa twice. The first time was for 2 weeks in the summer of 2016 and then again for another 2 weeks last summer. The first time was 6 adults and a baby and last year was 4 adults and a baby. The villa is in its own large grounds on the hillside near the very pretty village of Entrecasteaux. The approach driveway is steep but perfectly ok and there is plenty of car parking available in front of the villa. The villa is spacious, airy and well equipped; just as described by Margaret. 3 bedrooms; the master having a dressing area and an en-suite which includes both a bath and a shower, the other 2 bedrooms are both en-suite and of a good size. The double beds are comfortable though the 3rd bedroom makes use of a sofa bed with a mattress topper. The kitchen is very ‘user friendly’ and has everything one would need. The veranda has a table and chairs and most meals are taken there. An extending canopy provides extra shade when required. A large seating area and deck surround a very good-sized pool which is kept spotlessly clean (not fenced but has an alarm). The villa is in a very peaceful location, not overlooked and the southerly view is wonderful. We will certainly be back again.

In the summer of 2017, I spent a magical week at Margaret Connor’s “Provence Villa”, a center for the film production company of the acclaimed film “Provenance”, the winner of “Best Film” at the Madrid Film Festival that same year
This villa is a splendid reflection of the owner herself and the enchanting residence for a wonderful holiday. Ms. Connor, whose origins are in the hard scrabble life of rural Ireland where she and her family tilled the soil and raised their livestock on their modest farm, brings not only her excellent taste and business acumen from her career as an American CFO, but also an encyclopedic knowledge of horticulture and an understanding of the villa’s majestic natural environment. The flowers and plants that she adorns her property with lend new meaning to a “home away from home.”
The beautiful building that is the centerpiece of the villa exceeds the modernization requirements of the most discriminating traveler without compromising the natural milieu. The villa is fully equipped with every imaginable appliance, access to a variety of TV stations, a wonderful fireplace and tasteful, understated furnishings that, like the house, are in communion with nature’s gifts
The pool and the terrace are splendid vantage points to contemplate the magnificent scenery of mountains, a valley and Entrecasteaux. while offering the opportunity to relax, reflect and inhale the utter peacefulness and tranquility of one of the world’s oases.
Nearby and in every direction there are villages and towns that include Salerne, Carces, Cotignac as well as the ancient Roman town, Aix-En-Provence. History, excellent French country cuisine and wine as well as access to the nearby coastal towns and cities are all no more than an hour away as well as often within a ten minute drive from the villa.
Finally, I expect to be returning this summer for not even the allure of Paris can keep me from Ms. Connor’s paradise.

We have stayed at Provence Villa many times. It is a beautiful house set in a stunning location which is secluded but not isolated. The house, especially the kitchen, is really well equipped and maintained to a high standard. The views from the terrace are breathtaking and a perfect place to eat. The pool is a good size with plenty of sun loungers and perfect for hot days. From the house there are plenty of walking and cycling routes if you are feeling energetic. Entrecasteaux has everything for day to day needs, including a bakery, butcher, mini supermarket, a couple of restaurants and 2-3 bars all of which we can recommend. There are plenty of local wines available from the many vineyards located in or around Entrecasteaux. The village of Cotignac is about 10 minutes drive away and well worth a visit especially on market days. Lac St Croix and Gorges du Verdon are less than an hour away with a variety of water sports available and plenty of bars and restaurants. We have also visited Nice a couple of times which is only an hour’s drive away. We would highly recommend this property especially if you are looking for a relaxing and quiet holiday which is the reason why we keep going back.Guest rating:
Margaret,
Olive and I want to thank you for the lovely time that we had at your gracious Villa en Provence. The information you provided on local attractions, and markets was invaluable, and made our stay enjoyable. You have a lovely hillside setting with a great view of the Valley and Entrecasteaux below. Our days always began with a trip to the local market, a tour of the market town, and then an afternoon car trip to one of the many local and historic attractions. A trip to several local wineries rounded out our local travels. While located in the remote mountains, it’s not too far for a day trip to the Mediterranean and it’s many coastal villages. We spent an outstanding day in Cannes. A day trip to the Parc nature regional du Verdon is also not to be missed. The only regret that we had, was not taking you up on your recommendation to spend a day in the historic Roman Town of Aix- en Provence. We’ll definitely do this on our next visit to your Villa.

Just a short note to say thank you for a wonderful week’s holiday at your beautiful villa in Entrecasteaux. The house is by far the nicest place we have stayed in the South of France, Tuscany and Andeluscia in recent years I am a keen cyclist and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the hills and charming towns around Entrecasteaux and the Gorge de Verdun, whilst the children just loved the swimming pool which is kept crystal clear by Ben.
While the weather was a wee bit mixed with some dramatic thunderstorms in the afternoons, we thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine and the spectacular open views from the villa and your gardens.Guest rating:
My family and I had a wonderful time at your villa in Entrecasteaux. The view of Provence was stunning, especially in the cool breeze of the evening. Sitting outside on the veranda with a glass of local rose watching the bumble bees buzz around the lavender bushes was Provence at its finest. The amenities of the house were excellent! My wife especially appreciated the extremely large soaking tub in the master bathroom. We enjoyed going to the local markets in Entrecasteaux, Salerne, and Cotignac. I hope that we will be able to re-visit the area in the future. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place for us to have holiday!

Hi Margaret,
We did really love your house and in many ways it was one of the best we’ve ever stayed in. As you say, the pool, the views, the decor (especially the tiling in the master bedroom en-suite), it was all totally stunning. We also loved the fact that we could walk into the village to buy bread etc and – if we’d really wanted to – wouldn’t have needed to venture out by car for the whole week.
