Villars (Dordogne)

Villars is a village in the Dordogne département of western France

Villars is the village of Three Marvels – the Chateau de Puyguilem, the Cistercian Abbaye de Boschaud and the Grottes de Villars (stalagmite/stalactite caves with prehistoric cave paintings).

The medieval church in Villars has a large scallop shell carved over its doorway – the sign of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain (the burial place of St. James whose symbol was the scallop shell).
