Chize (Deux Sevres)
Chizé is a village in the Deux-Sèvres département of western France. The village can be found along the banks of the River Boutonne. It is also home to a national forest comprised of 4,800 hectares.
The village of Chize is built around a rocky promontory, where the ruins of a medieval stronghold can be found, a place where many battles were fought during the hundred year war.
The village was given to Thomas De Wodestock, son of Edward the third, King of England in 1363, as part of the the Treaty of Brétigny, signed three years previously.
Nearby in the Forest of Chize is a 60 acre zoo with 500 European animals, mini-farm and a children’s play area.
