Sauveterre-de-Rouergue (Aveyron)
Situated at the heart of the Hundred Valleys Region of the Segala between the gorges of the Aveyron and the Viaur is the Bastide Village of Sauveterre de Rouergue.
Sauveterre De Rouergue is classified as one of France's most beautiful Villages, it is set around a delightful market square which hosts a local produce market every Friday during July and August.
To mark the Pentecost of 1280, Philippe Le Hardi, then king of France (1270-1285) decided to build the Bastide de Sauveterre on a plateau that would be easy to defend thanks to the streams on either side (Lézert and Mergou).
Sauveterre de Rouergue is a beautiful little place that is very easy to explore during a mornings excursion. The architecture is typical of the bastide towns and completely unspoilt, hence its classification as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Underneath the stone arches surrounding the square are a number of shops selling a variety of produce, along with a couple of cafes.
On the outer edge of the village you will find another two hotel/restaurants. One being the Michelin starred Senechal and across the road, its bistro the Auberge de Senechal. There is also the small hotel La Grappe D'Or
