Tonneins (Lot-et-Garonne)
Tonneins is situated in the Lot-et-Garonne department of Aquitaine in South West France
Tonneins was once an important commercial centre on the then navigable Garonne River.
The centre of the south-western French tobacco industry, Tonneins suffered badly some years ago when the huge tobacco factory was closed and production moved to eastern Europe with the loss of many hundreds of jobs. Now, however, with the help of State and EC funds, Tonneins is a pleasant town with several cafes and bars, some nice individual shops and a large post office.
There are two main supermarkets (Lidl and Intermarche) and a hypermarket (Leclerc).
