We stayed at Chateau d'Hortes this summer for the second time, as we were also here two years ago. It is an absolutely stunning place, and we really feel at ease and at home in the fantastic house. The experience of living in your own Chateau for a week is outstanding, and we will come back any time, rather than renting expensive flats by the coast. The childen aged 9-16 loves it here. The pool area is secluded and private and you have it all to your self. Bessan is a wonderfully authentic village, with not many tourists. The marked there is fantastic with greens vegetables, cheese and meat from local producers. The Chateau is a short drive from the beach and very nice wine producers within less than an hour's drive too.Guest rating:
We chose this Chateau because of the wonderful look of the place and it's proximity to the area we wanted to explore - I can only say that it was the ideal choice in every way! - The 19th Century house is simply stunning with décor and furniture which just add to the historic feel of the venue. The hostess ( the lovely Marie - Sophie ) is the ideal mix of being available if needed but not at all intrusive so the holiday passes in idyllic sanctuary! The whole area is a delight to explore and the beaches are stunning and not at all crowded. There are many restaurants within easy driving distance which offer a wide variety of ( mainly ) French cuisine, the standards were consistently excellent and catered even for the vegetarian in our group. But...back to the Chateau itself...words are barely adequate to describe the joy of living in this property ..albeit temporarily ! - The gardens and pool are immaculate and the terrace offers perfect venue for evening drinks ( and breakfast ) - I cannot recommend this place highly enough...just go and soak up the history and splendour of a classic French chateau !Guest rating:
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Chateau d'Hortes. It is definitely as beautiful and interesting as the photos and the description say. Marie-Sophie is a great host and looked after us extremely well. We thoroughly recommend it and we are already planning to return next year!Guest rating:
Three generations of my family stayed here together for family holiday. It is a wonderful place....the Chateau is at once charming, beautiful and practical. We all felt very privileged to have stayed in authentic venue with such a history. Just waking up in one of the beautiful bedrooms an opening the shutters is really special as is having breakfast on the terrace overlooking the gardens. The pool area is beautifully presented and a great place to cool off and relax. Marie-Sophie is a wonderful host and always on hand if you need her. The Chateau has everything you need and more. The Anyone choosing Chateau D’Hortes will be bowled over by it....Magnifique!Guest rating:
Chateau d’Hortes is a charming 19th Century chateau in the heart of the Languedoc; its carefully preserved fabric and décor invoke constant echoes of its history, now slightly and delicately faded from its grandeur of old. Set in beautiful grounds and blessed with a large crystal-clear swimming pool, it was the ideal venue for our grand family reunion – 3 sets of family normally separated by geography. At any time of day, the big table on the south terrasse was where we hung out and chatted to catch up with one another’s news, but there were many cool and elegant rooms to which we could retire in search of quiet and solitude. All in all an excellent and unique venue; Marie-Sophie is every bit the careful and assiduous chatelaine.Guest rating:
One of our holidays every year, with family and friends, is at the beautifully enchanting Chateau d'Hortes. We now consider it our French home....can't live without it and have been going there for over 6 years. Marie-Sophie is a wonderful host and makes you feel so welcome. The chateau has been in Marie-Sophie's family for many generations and is a treasure of family heritage. This is ever apparent in the love and care that has gone in to making this elegant chateau the perfect location for holidaying in the south of France with style. You have the place to yourself. It is a great location for many activities and all you need for a wonderfully relaxing and fun stay with family and/or friends. If you can draw yourself away from the sun terrace, the private pool and private beautiful gardens there are so many interesting places close by to visit -Bessan is walking distance and has great little bakeries, a butcher and wonderful food markets. The magical town of Pezenas which is full of antique shop, St Guilhem Le Desert, Marsellian, Gorge d'Eric, Carcassonne...the list goes on. We highly recommend Chateau d'Hortes...you'll be missing out on a little piece of magic if you don't visit.Guest rating:
I have spent many happy summers at Chateau Hortes with my family & friends & thoroughly recommend staying here. As soon as you drive through the gates & before you even see the beautiful Chateau you get a real sense of tranquillity. The owner, Marie-Sophie is just lovely, very warm & welcoming & nothing is too much trouble. The chateau has been in her family for 6 generations & although very large & grand it has that feeling of home. The rooms are all very spacious & elegant & the decoration is in keeping with the style of the Chateau with lots of personal touches. The view of the garden from the terrace is beautiful, it is the perfect place to start the day with a cup of coffee & a croissant, have a long leisurely lunch & at the end of the day with a relaxed dinner & a glass or 2 of wine! There is a lovely shaded path through a small wood to the pool which is in a very pretty walled garden. The town of Bessan is a short & charming walk away & has a great market on Sunday mornings. If you can tear yourself away from the Chateau it is worth exploring some of the towns in the area such as Pezenas for antiques & a great music festival, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is a lovely town & the caves called Grotte de ClamouseGuest rating:
What a beautiful place! The pictures don't really do it justice. The Chateau is in the middle of the Languedoc wine region not far from the artistic town of Pezenas, the charming port of Marseillan and many sandy beaches. We had plans to visit further afield but were so comfortable at the Chateau we couldn't drag ourselves away. The very kind and charming owner has thought of everything to provide a real home from home experience. As a group of 10 mixed age adults it suited our needs perfectly. All the beds were comfortable and decorated in a traditional antique style and the three bathrooms were perfectly adequate for our needs. The extensive grounds and beautiful pool provided plenty of opportunities for outdoor sports, e.g. Badminton, volleyball and table tennis. We loved gathering round the table on the terrace overlooking the beautiful grounds. Many a happy evening was spent there enjoying the pleasures of local produce and Languedoccian wines. We'd love to return to Chateau d'Hortes.Guest rating:
