Luxury Self-Catering Accommodation in South West France
Luxury accommodation in rural, peaceful South West France. Mas de Gardou is our French home, which we have lovingly restored and decorated in traditional french style. The house has every possible comfort. The pool is very spacious, surrounded by trees, and has a raised eating area with a huge stone table that can sit 10-12 people. There are plenty of loungers, and also a sofa area with a fire pit, for those late night swims. The terrace provides a sometimes welcome break from the sun, where you can eat al fresco at the outdoor dining table, or just relax on the comfy sofas with a drink and a book. We hope you'll love the place even half as much as we do!
Mas de Gardou has received 5 stars on Trip Advisor!
The luxurious accommodation has wooden floors throughout and comprises:
- Modern, fully fitted kitchen/diner. Oak dining table seating up to 8.
- Large sitting room, with a stunning fireplace, and a log burning stove, well stocked bookcase,2 large sofas, and an armchair.
- Four bedrooms, all exceptionally large each 3 with king size beds and one with two double beds 2 doubles. The master bedroom also has a marble fireplace.
- One modern bathroom, with large bathtub, and separate shower, WC and washbasin.
- Upstairs shower room, with WC and washbasin.
Recently refurbished to a very high degree.
There is a large plot of one hectare at Mas de Gardou, which includes wraparound gardens and a field . One large enclosed section of the garden is ideal for children and includes an extra large trampoline, football nets, and even a golf net. There is a hammock to relax in under the plum trees in the back garden and another by the pool. In the front garden, we added a boules court - great for those inter-family competitions, next to this is yet another stone table and two benches . There is also a small courtyard garden behind the renovated barn (unoccupied while the main house is rented) with another seating area, which gets the last sun of the day and is perfect for a pre dinner aperitif.
Gardou is a tiny hamlet outside Saillagol (also tiny!). This is a sleepy part of South West France, away from all the hustle and bustle. Caylus is the closest village with a supermarket, pharmacy, bakers, butchers, a couple of bars, and a couple of restaurants - Caylus is a 10 minute drive. In Saint Projet (5 mins), there is a great bar/restaurant called Chez Jano. There is another great restaurant a few mins further away called L'auberge de la grange du Cros. Villefranche de Rouergue is about a 30 minute drive and is the main town with Hypermarches, department stores etc. There are great markets in the area at Caylus, Saint-Antonin (20 mins), Villefranche, and Limogne (15 mins).
This is great countryside for walking, cycling and breathing in the fresh air. There is horse-riding nearby, and in the local rivers you can take a boat trip, swim, or fish. There are two tennis courts at Caylus.

We spent 2 weeks this August at Mas de Gardou. It is a lovely, well-appointed farmhouse in the Lot in very peaceful surroundings with rolling hills around it. Roddy is a very good host and makes sure you have everything you need. There are a lot of activities to keep the kids off the screens - from the fantastic pool in a lovely glade of mature trees to table tennis, trampolining, boules courts, dartboard and every conceivable garden sport option you can think of. The terrace and gardens are lovely, well shaded and surrounded by thriving lavender bushes. There are plenty of local (and very good) restaurants within a short drive and the local limestone villages are charming. Local shops provide high quality and reasonably priced fresh food with a market at nearby towns nearly every day. We loved it and would go back at the drop of a hat.Guest rating:
Our family of four spent a glorious week here with friends (another family of four) at the end of July. The house is really lovely - simply but elegantly decorated with plenty of space for us all. We cooked in the kitchen or on the bbq every night and ate outside on the terrace to the sound of the cicadas and bees buzzing in the lavender. The outside space is really amazing - we enjoyed the pool which had more than enough space for us all - the boules court came into its own in the early evening and there were a few other lovely areas to sneak away to read a book or have a bit of time on your own! The kids enjoyed the bikes, games and inflatables - and we loved exploring the nearby villages and towns. All in all, we had a really lovely week and would recommend Mas de Gardou unreservedly!Guest rating:
We stayed here for 10 days in July 2019. The house really is very luxurious and the open hatch to the kitchen was well used to pass the excellent food and wine we enjoyed during our stay. Lots of seating/lounging options to find (or hide from) the sun, Very well-equipped for lazy afternoons by the pool or cycle rides to the neighbouring villages. Excellent location to visit the local towns for market day or a spot of fun on the river. Roddy a very attentive owner and a shout out to pool guy Mark for his friendly help when needed.Guest rating:
We had a fabulous stay at Mas de Gardou, enjoying the French countryside. Kids loved the pool and all the activities for them to do and the local food and wine were amazing. Roddy was a great host and his house is both beautiful and comfortable, perfect for a family holiday. Highly recommend Mas de Monille for a wonderfully French meal too and kayaking/River paddling in the beautiful St Antoinin. Hope to be back before too long.Guest rating:
We stayed at Mas De Gardou in May 2018 and it was the most relaxing time we've had in years. Surrounded by tranquil French countryside, we immersed ourselves in the rural way of life taking walks or bike-rides along the sleepy village lanes, stopping at local boulangere, charcuterie and patisseries for the daily meals. The locals are extremely welcoming and enjoy your attempts to speak the language. The produce itself is fantastic, fresh and good value for money. Mas De Gardou contains anything you would want for the family. Our boys (12, 10 and 5) had every conceivable activity on-hand to keep the occupied and outside in the fresh air. We rotated from the swimming pool (always clean and warm with inflatables and water toys), to the boules 'petanque terrain', to the football nets, basketball, darts and other games besides. Having spent most of every day outside, we could relax in the evening around one of the three BBQs or fire-pits, whilst the boys played board games and we opened a bottle of the local wine. This really was idyllic and we highly recommend it if your idea is to get time away with loved ones, recharge batteries and taste authentic France.Guest rating:

Lovely place. Much enjoyed the P & Q. The glorious weather and the pool was a magical combination. Rose and foie gras another. St Antonin (Sunday), Cordes sur Ciel and St Cirq Lapopie - especially swimming in the Lot at the latter. All very enjoyable and we are sorry to leave so soon. PS Dinner at la Grange de Clos truly remarkable.'

What a wonderful farmhouse and grounds. We have had so much fun at Mas de Gardou. Highlights - relaxing by the pool, boules championship and beaucoup de rose. Lunch at Au Rince Cochon and the Market at St Antonin are not to be missed. Luke, Jayne, George, Oscar and Mabel Wellbelove
Have survived 2 weeks at Mas de Gardou with famille. So many things to talk about but the rose beckons. Market at Villefranche well worth a visit (very French) also the hilltop village of St Cirq Lapopie. We'll be back. Barbara and Geoff, (Wellbelove Grandparents)
