Spacious Family Holiday Cottage in South West France
More than just a holiday gite, this is a comfortable family home for your sole use. Set on one level and in its own grounds, the property is a newly-renovated barn, offering comfortable accommodation for up to five people. The interior is modern yet retains many original features such as beams and exposed stone work. It is well-equipped with everything to make your stay enjoyable. With a large grassed area, it is suitable for children of all ages.
The area is rich in history, places of interest, restaurants and outdoor activities.
This converted barn comprises:
Set on one level the entrance is to:
- The large kitchen-diner with two patio doors opening onto the garden. The kitchen-diner has a microwave, toaster, oven and hob together with all the utensils you will need during your stay. As well as the cooking facilities there is a washing machine and dishwasher. There is a dining table and chairs to seat six people comfortably.
Double French doors lead to:
- The sitting room which has patio doors opening on to the terrace. A large comfortable corner sofa and separate reading area, a television and DVD player together with a selection of films, books and games provide a warm inviting area for cosy evenings.
- A large double bedroom with an en-suite shower room
- A second double bedroom
- The third bedroom has a single bed (a further single bed, suitable for a child) in this room is available at a small additional cost)
- The family bathroom being next to these two rooms.
There is a large enclosed private garden, with games and a trampoline for your use. There is ample private parking available on-site.
Located close to the highest point of the beautiful Charente region, this newly renovated property is ideally situated to discover an area rich in history, landscape, culture and gastronomy.
The 'Lacs de Haute-Charente' lakes, with safe bathing beaches, are just minutes away. The immediate area includes the town of La Rochefoucauld, with markets, restaurants and a castle that dates back to the 11th century, and the hilltop town of Montbron, where you will find many amenities.
Within an hour's drive of the house are the large towns of Limoges, with its museums, porcelain shops and international airport, as well as Angouleme, with high-street shops, a comic book museum, and a high-speed train connection to Paris (two-and-a-half hours) and Bordeaux (75 minutes).
Tour the distilleries and sample the liqueur in the riverside town of Cognac, or enter the Dordogne area to visit the stunning town of Brantome for boat trips, canoeing, handmade souvenirs, and a chance to sample some of France's best gastronomic delights. Dordogne's largest town, Perigueux, is a little further south and has Roman ruins, excellent restaurants, and a cinema showing films in English.
History lovers will appreciate the towns of Aubeterre and Sarlat. The haunting World War II village of Oradour-sur-Glane is well worth a visit.
The Futuroscope amusement park and the animal park of Vallee des Singes are both around 90 minutes away, and the beautiful west coast seaside towns of La Rochelle and Royan are reachable within two hours - perfect for a day trip. Bordeaux and its surrounding wine region can be visited in a day.

How to get to La Grange Charentaise
- Bordeaux and Limoges airports are the most convenient. The airport at Limoges has flights from many areas predominately served by Ryanair. Car hire is available.
- Angouleme is served by the TGV train from Paris, the journey taking about two hours. Car hire is available.
- The drive from Calais normally takes around eight hours and is mostly motorway driving.
- The drive from Caen normally takes around five hours and is mostly motorway driving.
