La Baronnie Gite - This is an excellent place to stay. The hosts are very welcoming and make you feel at ease from the moment you arrive. The location is perfect for all activities and sites you may wish to visit. Alternatively you can relax by the pool which is kept immaculate by the host. The Gite itself is very charming and very well equipped for all your needs. We have visited the area on previous occasions but found La Baronnie Gite by far the best accommodation we have stayed in. I would say to any potential visitors who are unsure about booking, you will not be disappointed if you stay here.Guest rating:
We really cannot find fault with this property and we spent a wonderful week enjoying all its facilities and our hosts hospitality and knowledge. Every comfort has been thoughtfully provided from the very well equipped kitchen to the beautifully appointed pool area. The region is beautiful with all the important sights within easy driving distance. The local little town has a good supermarket and a couple of bar/restaurants and an excellent market on Sundays. This property is more suited to people with no mobility issues as the stairs are quite steep in the property and the gardens and pool area are on different levels - however we found this enhanced our enjoyment of the gite. The area beside the gite was a lovely space to cook on the bbq and sit and enjoy the lovely balmy evenings. The property is sub divided into three different accommodation spaces which share the pool - something to bear in mind if you want complete privacy but it certainly did not affect our enjoyment of the gite.

I think for me I'd like to bring to start by bringing to the forefront just how lovely Shona and Steve are. I was a newly single parent travelling to France for the first time on my own with two children. I drove too, which was one heck of a journey but manageable. Shona & Steve could tell that things weren't "perfect" & couldn't have been kinder. I was taken under their wing, spoiled to drinks by the pool & Shona also accompanied us on a day out, also showing us other places to visit & what attractions were worth the effort etc. We stayed in the Gite, which was more than ample for the 3 of us & we all had our own rooms. I opted for the wonderful view, which you learn to appreciate more the older you get, over & above the ensuite. There is a supermarket down the road & also a hilarious "Pizza out of a wall" thing in the car park there, which was actually very nice. There's the usual French market too. We went to Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, which is basically a wonderful garden lit by candlelight, with live music etc. It's big, beautiful & truly magical! I actually got quite emotional being there especially when the sun began to set. There is a little cafe back at the main house that sells ice creams & cocktails; we sat there & got to watch the sun set behind the hills. Utterly idyllic & stunning. We had such a lovely time. I didn't know Shona and Steve before we got there but now I have a friend and will definitely go back!

We live in South Africa but have younger family residing in the U K & Guernsey . We took a chance on this locality and booked it for three weeks —— and it more than exceeded our expectations . We ALL arrived on the same day and the first evening were invited to join “ our hostes “ to a “ welcoming “ party !!! And it just got better from there . The area is beautiful and full of interest and Shona and Steve’s knowledge , enthusiasm and interest is revealed in the biggest welcome package we have ever seen . Day to day : a super boulangerie - 1 1/2 Kim’s A first class , butchery 2 Kms In St Cyprian 2 supermarkets which are well stocked In addition in the surrounding towns and villages there is a great selection of coffee shops and restaurants . The three castles in the immediate vicinity are ALL worth a visit (because of the vast amount of money that has been spent on them ) because they now show what they were like to live in — “ history alive “ A location to be recommended!
Guest rating:
Extremely well-appointed and outfitted gite with quite extraordinary hosts--Shona and Steve--and an amazing view. Also, superbly located close to many great sites, restaurants and things to do. We were warmly received and Shona and Steve were available to answer questions, provide recommendations and information about the area.
Guest rating:
The gite is very tastefully decorated and retains a lot of original features while still being contemporary. A lot of thought has been given to what guests might want or need and this is one of the best equipped gites we have stayed in. The accommodation is on three levels with steps which would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues or possibly families with young children who want to be close to parents. The twin room is in the loft with a large beam across the middle which is low but adds lovely character. We usually prefer gites with total privacy as we both work hard and need time away from people but Steve and Shona somehow manage to strike a perfect balance between being friendly and approachable but not in any way intruding. They were helpful and gave us some great advice about suitable activities. Our boys, age 16 and 8, enjoyed the pool which we had to ourselves most of the time and wifi making a relaxing time for us all. They also enjoyed occasional visits from the hosts cat. The gite is well situated near to lots the region has to offer but in a slightly less touristy area with beautiful views across the valley. Overall we would highly recommend this gite as it has lots to offer.
Guest rating:
We (myself, husband, 2 boys plus Aunt & Uncle) had a wonderful stay here. The gite has everything and more. Shona & Steve are so welcoming but discreet. They had thought of all the little details in the welcome pack. I had no need to worry about breakfast. Pool towels, dishwasher tablets, shower gel, soap etc all provided. The heated pool is beautiful with great views. Plenty of loungers. A very relaxing spot. Our boys loved Shona & Steves cat. The gite is in a perfect location for seeing all the sights and is very close to St Cyprien for shops and restaurants. Would definitely recommend.

This beautiful Gite is in an ideal location to explore the prehistoric caves, the numerous chateaus, the Dordogne river and the beautiful historical towns and villages.
The Gite is a high standard with all amenities as well as a wonderful pool with stunning views over the Dordogne valley.
The owners (Shona and Steve) made you feel so welcome and ensured you had everything you required.
I would definitely recommend this Gite.
Guest rating:
A wonderful homely gite with everything required to have a relaxed holiday. Very tastefully decorated and furnished. The house is very well equipped and the welcome basket of essentials very much appreciated. After a long journey the supermarket is the last thing on your mind!!
The Gite is in a great position on a hillside with amazing views across the Dordogne countryside. very centrally positioned to visit all tourist villages/sights.
The pool is amazing- very clean, lovely comfy sun loungers, amazing views while you relax and chill out after a morning of sightseeing.
The outside table/chairs & BBQ great for evening meals with food from local markets and local wines to wash it down!!
The local village was minutes away by car for all essentials.
Bikes were available to use, which on this occasion we didn't use.
We will definitely recommend to family & friends and hopefully, ourselves be back one day.
The owners are very welcoming and helpful with any local information.
Guest rating:
Shona and Steve very welcoming owners nothing was too much trouble. Gite very comfortable and clean as was the pool and outside areas. Had an amazing just out of season stay!! Highly recommend this time of year if you want peace and quite yet enjoying the beautiful countryside!
Guest rating:
We have recently enjoyed our 2nd visit to the gite at La Petite Baronnie and were again delighted by the accommodation (now enlarged and very commodious), facilities, ambience and friendly hosts. Having enjoyed a visit two years ago, we brought 4 members of our extended family with us this time around. None were familiar with the Dordogne or gites. All were hugely impressed and keen to return. The gite enjoys such a convenient location, close to all of the main attractions of the area (Sarlat, Domme, Castelnaud, Beynac etc). Nonetheless, there are quieter pursuits available on the doorstep if preferred (country walks, canoeing and the local Sunday Market). Our particular favourite this time around was Les Jardins des Marqueyssac - especially pretty as the sun goes down and the tea lights come on during Thursday evening Music Nights. Shona and Steve are incredibly helpful and ready with local tips, advice and a welcoming Bellini! We will be back for many years to come I suspect!
Guest rating:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the gite. Our hosts, Shona and Steve, were very friendly and ready with advice when needed - a lovely welcome drink on the terrace, which extended well into the evening.
The gite is clean and well appointed with everything we needed and if there had been anything extra we required I'm sure Shona would have rustled it up for us!
The children were very happy with their rooms and the fans were very welcome on the hot nights. As was the pool, lovely to cool down after a day out in 36°C heat.
The location is great, with beautiful views over the neighbouring countryside and very quiet. The boulangerie is a short walk away and the supermarket a quick drive up the road. The area offers masses to do: markets, caves, gardens, medival towns and chateaux aplenty, making La Petite Baronnie an ideal location. Kayaking down the Dordogne with a picnic is to be recommended and not overly arduous. The night market - marché gourmand - was good fun, with lots of choice, including Vietnamese street food and the ubiquitous crepes and gauffre. At La Buisson I'd recommend the pork, slow roasted over hot coals.
All in all, it was wonderful. Thanks Steve and Shona for your hospitality and we hope to be back another year. PS. Give a cuddle to Smokey
Guest rating:
We arrived quite late after a few delays and were greeted by Shona and Steve who gave a warm and friendly welcome then spent a couple of hours with us going through the gite, the area and things which we could do. Thanks for the peach bellinis!
The gite was a little larger than we expected from the photos. It was lovely and clean and the linens and towels were good quality.
The location is quiet, views wonderful and pool was a real bonus.
We used the BBQ and ate outside before drinking a glass or two of wine and using the jenga which was provided along with lots of other games. There is a well-stocked bookshelf and the telly and wifi worked perfectly.
Our little bonus was Smokey the very playful kitten who gave us hours of fun.
Great accommodation, great location, great hosts. I'd be very happy to return there if I'm in the area in the future
Guest rating:
Great to be back in Shona and Steve's gite. Another great welcome from these guy's, drinks and nibbles waiting for us after a dip in pool.
With the addition of another bedroom in the gite we could bring friends next year! The 5 star ratings this property has achieved is well deserved, from the attention to detail to the breathtaking views and it's situation in the Dordogne. Anyone reading these reviews could be forgiven for thinking this gite is perfect..... well we can't find anything to the contrary.
We tried to visit a few different towns this year and could recommend Belves, Domme, Daglan and the night food market at Tremolat.
There is so much to see a do in this part of the Dordogne, and you could not have a better base than this gite.
Thank you once again Shona and Steve for a memorable holiday and sharing your experiences with us. We will be back again and again.... love it!
Guest rating:
Me and my family had a fantastic time at La Petite Baronnie. We stayed there last year and loved it, so came back for another visit. The owners Shona and Steve were very welcoming and had some really helpful advice about where to visit and eat. The gite is well equipped to the point where it is almost like home from home! The location of the gite caters perfectly for all different types of families. If you're an active family it is right on the Dordogne for canoeing. If you're more interested in site seeing, it is on the doorstep of Castlenaud (this was our favourite place) and Beynac to name a few! Alternatively, if you are looking for a more relaxing holiday, they have a lovely heated swimming pool which is very well kept. Highly recommend and we will be returning.
