Our property is set on the outskirts of a small village approximately a 15 minute drive from both Le Bugue and Les Eyzies. No doubt after viewing the 2017 Tour de France on television in the summer the Dordogne is now on your list of places you must visit in France. Book early as the region is more popular than ever.
Le Bugue a small Perigordian town has a colourful Tuesday and Saturday morning market but still has a good selection of shops, supermarkets, bank, pharmacies and a medical centre. With places to dine tradition French, Thai or Italian and with a good choice of bars and cafes there is something for everyone. In and around the local area there are many tourist attractions and we have a good range of brochures in the house to save you a trip to the local tourist offices.
Les Eyzies again just a short drive is a pretty town here is sited the Museum of Prehistory which is now a UNESCO site of special importance sit at one of the many pavement cafes and marvel at the scenery or visit one of the many grottes/caves Font de Gaume is one of these with cave paintings that rival Lascaux. As in Le Bugue here you can hire a canoe for either a few hours or a full day if feeling energetic or just take a leisurely stroll along the river.
Perigueux the capital of the region, Bergerac surrounded by vineyards and the old medieval town of Sarlat are all approximately a 40 minutes.
If you enjoy shopping then the large town of Perigueux the capitol of the region is well worth a visit. With its cathedral, museum and old quarter housing specialist shops full of the local delicacies of the region. Bergerac a lively town on the Dordogne river surrounded by its vineyard the old town tumbles down to the river here you will find the Maison du Vin learn about the practice of making wine. After buying your picnic from the market in Bergerac (perhaps the local delicacy of foie gras) taste the sweet wine of Monbazillac the chateau is close by on the slopes of the vineyard and the wine is an ideal accompaniment to your French picnic or even better served chilled for an aperatif.
Another day take a drive along the Dordogne from the house via Le Bugue then stop off to visit Beynac with its grand chateau towering down over the pretty village continuing along by the side of the river to Domme a famous bastide. Or turn off and take the road to medieval Sarlat with its ancient quarter again full of food shops (yes food plays an important part in the region!) During the summer you will be serenaded whilst dining at one of the many eating places. A lively place at any time of the year. Then take the road back to Les Eyzies and chez nous and arrive full circle after your perfect day out.

We spent 3 weeks at the residence owned by Shirley and James.. We were joined by our son, his wife and their 2 daughters aged five and four, We received a royal welcome and were assured if we needed any help or information during our stay they would be delighted to oblige The house is very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. It was lovely to wake up each morning and throw the windows open to the view of the vast well kept garden and pristine pool. Peace personified!!! As we have been to The Dordogne very often we were familiar with the area. However, James gave us a list of places we hadn't yet found so we went off to visit these over the 3 weeks. Our family thoroughly enjoyed their stay and the girls loved the pool and exploring the garden. This is a beautiful and very peaceful place to visit and we would highly recommend it.. Thank you Shirley and JamesGuest rating:
We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful house, which is set in lovely, well cared for gardens in a very peaceful area. The house was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. A car is needed, but there are many wonderful places to visit within a few kilometres such as Domme, Sarlat and Limeuil to name few. A week was definitely not long enough. Shirley and James, who live in the grounds, are excellent hosts and helped make our stay perfect. Thank you

My family and I have just returned from our second holiday at this property. All of the other 5 out of 5 reviews given to this property provide a true and accurate reflection of this wonderful property, which oozes character.
Situated within acres of lovely grounds it’s a quiet and peaceful location, yet conveniently located for access to all of the charming towns around such as Domme, Sarlat, Les Eyzies and Montignac.
The house was spotlessly clean and brilliantly equipped to a high standard. We particularly enjoyed the large outside south facing terrace overlooking the gardens and private secluded pool. The swimming pool is cleaned daily and if staying with small children it’s satisfying to know access to pool can only be gained by way of a childproof locked gate.
James and Shirley are excellent hosts very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable of the area, but not obtrusive. What sets this property apart from many others is the extra attention to detail the owners have applied. Set amidst beautiful secluded countryside, I would highly recommend a stay at this property.Guest rating:
Well where do we start. Not only is the house fantictic and set in a beautiful location (even better than the pictures)but the hosts James and Shirley really add that special touch. They are not intrusive at all but are there if needed for anything and very friendly. We arrived to a lovely welcome and were taken round and then left to enjoy the holiday. We arrived late but did not have to worry about shopping as Shirley had thought of everything we may need for that evening into the next day until we were able to go shopping. The place is extremely well equipped and clean and feels just like home from home,we did not want to leave. The grounds are stunning as is the pool which again is very well equipped with loungers parasols tables and towels and outdoor games. There is a lovely patio just outside the door overlooking the grounds and again well equipped with seating , tables, parasols and a bbq. Lots of details of places to visit or eat at are provided. We had the most wonderful time and will definitely be returning. Thank you both

My family (three couples) stayed at Shirley and James's beautiful house in June. This was our second visit to the Dordogne which is a gorgeous region with lots to explore and do. The house absolutely exceeded our expectations (which were high to begin with!). The house itself was spotlessly clean and well laid out, with three bedrooms and ensuites (so useful when travelling with a group of adults), an enormous kitchen (by London standards!) and lots of space so that we could come together for meals but could spend quiet time doing our own stuff as well. The land that the house sits on is beautiful and well kept, the pool is great and it was wonderful to have meals on the terrace. It was an easy place to stay - everything had been thought of, from the initial welcome pack to spare towels and linen. James and Shirley are excellent hosts - friendly and knowledgeable but unobtrusive. We particularly enjoyed exploring the local area. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family, and we very much hope to make a return visit soon.

We have recently returned from a wonderful fortnight in this excellent property. Situated in beautiful, tranquil countryside, this traditional farmhouse was the ideal place for a peaceful and relaxing holiday for our family. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable and equipped with everything you wish you could take with you from home - even cling film was provided! Bed linen and towels were plentiful and changed at the end of the first week. The pool was perfect, with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Cleaned every morning by James, the owner, it was situated at the bottom of an enormous garden, in which we were free to wander about or play badminton. James and his wife, Shirley were on hand to answer any queries we might have and were able to suggest suitable activities and restaurants in the area. They were extremely polite and friendly and gave us the best welcome pack we have ever had! I would have no hesitation in recommending this property; it is set in a quiet location but within easy driving distance of the best attractions the Dordogne has to offer.Guest rating:
What a wonderful property this is. It is the 4th time we have had holidays in private villas/gites, they have all been nice but this one was by far the best. It is very clean and well maintained. It has everything you require. The owners Shirley and James have thought of everything, and they are the most friendly and helpful hosts. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard. It is situated in the most tranquil grounds surrounded by beautiful scrubs, trees, flowers and lawns. Perfect for a early morning walk/jog. The pool has its own little garden/patio area and is cleaned every day by James. To gain access to the pool you go through a child proof gate, which makes it safe for family's.Whether you want to just relax or explore what the Dordogne has to offer this is a perfect holiday home.I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to my family and friends.Guest rating:
The property is excellent and the location superb. The owners, James and Shirley, ensure a top notch level of maintenance, cleanliness and comfort (including daily pool cleaning) and are extremely welcoming, thoughtful, professional, pleasant and discrete. The accomodation is well planned, excellently equipped and suitably atmospheric - you really know that you are living in the South of France here! My family and I experienced everything that we expected during our two week stay and can only find praise for this place and its owners. Highly recommended for a relaxing vacation in a superb property located in charming grounds.Guest rating:
We have just returned from two weeks in this property and we were very impressed. The quality of the furnishing and attention to details was very evident. Mine host Shirley and James clearly have very high standards. From the welcoming wine and impromptu refreshments left for us for a late arrival to the discreet attention during our stay for information, we felt that it mattered to them that we enjoyed our stay.
The property is a bit isolated and you do need a car to shop and visit the lovely surrounding area. But the advantage of this is that we had total privacy and peace.
We have rented a number of properties over the years but this was the best so far. James attended to the swimming pool every morning, that is 5 stars standard, thank you.
