This stone barn and tower house was converted 30 years ago and since then the house has been let each year to numerous families and groups of people who have very much enjoyed their stay! The house is set within 12 acres of it’s own land. Rural setting of woods and fields with good views over the surrounding countryside. Peaceful secluded location approximately 1.5 kilometres from the village of Thedirac which is within the wooded region of Bouriane between the large villages of Catus and Cazals, 25 minutes north of Cahors. The barn comprises of:
- The large open plan living room has glazed doors on both sides and runs the full length of the house.
- A modern, well equipped kitchen is at one end with the dining area close to this. There are two fridges, a washing machine, a dryer, a dishwasher and a microwave. Gas hob and electric built- in oven. The kitchen is very well stocked with cutlery, china, glasses etc. 2 high-chairs are provided.
- A wide terrace runs along the back of the house with table and chairs. A further table and chairs is provided to the front of the house alongside the mature wisteria. Therefore there is great flexibility for external dining and relaxation.
- The living room has a TV – UK Free View by satellite, music system and 3 x 3 seater settees. The living room has a wood burning stove. The ground floor of the tower has further living space.
- An en-suite shower/WC opens off this second living space which also has a single bed (allowing a 9th person). All the living space is bright and airy with views across the open countryside.
Stairs lead up from the living room to the first floor which has exposed timber roof beams. There are:
- Four bedrooms. The master double bedroom in the tower has windows on three sides and a shower room/WC. The second bedroom has a double bed and windows on both sides. The third bedroom has twin beds and the fourth has bunk beds both with windows.
- A further bathroom/WC serves these bedrooms. A cot is provided. Each room has electric wall heaters.
Outside
- There is a 10 x 5 metre swimming pool
A telephone is provided. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detector and battery torches are provided. Detailed information on all aspects of the house and the surrounding area is provided for visitors.
Thedirac is a village of honey coloured stone with a history dating back to the Roman occupation with a fortified church and a 15th century manor house. The village has a bakery, boules court and a tennis court. The larger villages of Catus and Cazals are each 8 kilometres away. They both have a weekly market, Cazals on Sunday morning and Catus on Tuesday morning. They have bars and restaurants. There are other restaurants locally.
The house is in an ideal location for exploring this lovely area of France with the Dordogne and Lot river valleys within 30 minutes drive. There are beautiful walks from the house within the quiet peaceful environment where wildlife and the countryside can be enjoyed.

We stayed here as a family in August 2020. The house was perfect and the pool and outdoor area were outstanding. Would definitely recommend.Guest rating:
We stayed here as a family of 4 in August 2019. The house has a modern interior, is well equipped and, for 4 - lots of space. It is in a small hamlet far from the madding crowd so extremely peaceful and relaxing. The grounds are huge and there is plenty of space for outdoor games or simply lazing by the pool - which is a good size and was never cold. There is an alarm, but as the pool is open caution with very young children or non swimmers should be taken. There are two really good sized double rooms, a twin room and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds, which if you were travelling as an 8 would be very tight for adults, however there is a downstairs area that could double up as additional space for adults if required with it's own shower room - we used it to store all of the wine we bought! The house was immaculate and extremely clean. We have travelled many times to France and rented houses, we couldn't fault it. The area is fantastic, lots to see and do for all ages within an hour's drive and we spent a good amount of time exploring. Would 100% recommend this place.Guest rating:
Marives is the best equipped gite I've ever stayed in. It has everything! Very comfortable, clean and spacious. Well maintained. Excellent pool. Not overlooked, many acres of own ground, good views. Quiet, situated on a no-through lane. Within easy distance of Thedirac (for bread) and Catus (general shopping). Good restaurants nearby. A place to revisit. John BGuest rating:
There are some terrific things about the property which might not come across in the basic description, for instance, it is on a large plot of land. So you have lots of choices about where you eat your breakfast or dinner, where you sit or lie to get some you time, where you go to read and so-on. You can be on holiday together, but still have space. The accommodation is generous upstairs - the master en-suite bedroom is particularly nice with windows on three sides of the tower. There's another double, plus smaller bedrooms (one with bunks). So two families could easily share. There were six of us, which is probably a good number, though more could be squeezed in. Downstairs is well appointed and comfortable - cooking was not a problem and there's a plentiful supply of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc! Plus a good space for watching TV, if the weather turns (it was 37C during our stay). In the evenings we ate outside, sometimes cooking on the BBQ, waiting for that time of day when swallows swooping in to drink from the pool gave way to bats. Then looking at the milky way and enjoying the night air. I wouldn't hesitate to re-book, it's the best time we've spent in France. Special thanks to Ellen for her help and recommends :-)Guest rating:
