Mas Coumbel has a fabulous 12m salt pool and large, roomy and well-equipped accommodation in a stone farmhouse dating back to 1844 which has been fully renovated to create a comfortable airy home. We have room to sleep 8-10* during high season. In spring and autumn, we can close off part of the house and adjust the price so please ask if you are a smaller group.
The outside space – ie the pool, extensive gardens, outside kitchen and bathroom for summer living, covered dining terrace, two open terraces for morning and evening sun, meadow walk, shaded corners – offers something for everyone. The large 12m x 6m private pool (open from late May until late September, weather dependent) is a uniform 1.5m deep . There is a house bike, table tennis, badminton or boules, a hammock, shade to read and snooze and plenty of opportunities for sun worshipping.
Inside, there are en-suites to two large master bedrooms, another large room with a double bed, two singles and a sofa, and a fourth bedroom (air conditioned) with a bed that can be a double or a single, and another single. The family bathroom has a bath as well as a shower and serves these two rooms well. The outdoor pool shower and loo provide extra easy living for all.
Internet access is good (averaging 10 mbps download speeds), as is mobile phone coverage. We have English and French TV and a stereo with Airplay jack plug connection.
Our house is a short drive away from the unspoiled medieval town of Caylus with its twice weekly market, excellent bakeries, artisan pizza restaurant, bars, small supermarket and leisure lake. Fine dining close by in Puylaroque and St Antonin de Noble Val (the films Charlotte Grey and The Hundred Foot Journey were filmed here). Caussade, famous for its heritage of straw hat production, is a bustling town about 20 minutes away by car, Najac (40 mins) with its dominant and historic castle is not to be missed and the charming Villefranche de Rouergue is about 35 mins away. Montricoux and Negrepelisse are a similar distance and worth visits too. There are the exciting Gorges de L’Aveyron (great for kayaking), and the wine growing regions of Cahors and Gaillac. Markets locally on almost every day of the week (buy fresh local produce and cook it on our large charcoal barbecue) and look out for festivals all summer long.
*please note a small supplement for more than 8 people will be added to adjust for linen, cleaning etc
Short drives to the lovely medieval town of Caylus, the hilltop village of Puylaroque, the stunning medieval St Antonin Noble Val or to the hatmaking towns of Septfonds or Caussade (where the large Monday market is a must) make Mas Coumbel perfectly placed. 45 minutes will get you to Cahors (the historic Pont Valentre is spectacular.), Montauban and Villefranche de Rouergue – all well worth the visit, with fabulous markets, good dining and historic buildings. .
Good restaurants, both rustic and fine dining, are within easy reach of the house too.
Kayaking on the Gorges D’Aveyron is fun (the easiest place to arrange this is St Antonin), and there are beautiful walks all around. Cycling also.
Cahors, Gaillac and Marcillac wine regions are close by, a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon, with many vineyards offering tours and tastings. t
Albi is a fascinating town – the Toulouse Lautrec museum is worth a visit and Albi has a huge Saturday market with several brocante stalls.
Bastide villages abound – Monpezat-de-Quercy is a great example. But wherever you go, you don’t have to travel very far for amazing views, forgotten country lanes, quiet, shaded streets and the opportunity to sit in a bar and watch the world go by.

What a fantastic house, what a pool! I loved how spacious everything was, the little corners and ’secret’ places where you could go and read a book. We went kayaking and visited little villages – an ideal formula for a great family vacation!

Magnificent home in delightful region
We loved everything about our 3-generation holiday at Mas Coumbel! The farmhouse is fabulous. It is super comfortable with everything to hand. There are plenty of places for outdoor snoozing, playing and eating, or for just gazing at the view and listening to the birds. The pool is marvellous for raucous volleyball or sedate lengths. There is a very comprehensive welcome folder with information about all the pretty towns and villages nearby. A big hit with all the family.Guest rating:
To be honest: this was just the perfect holiday. We visited Mas Coumbel with two families, with both two daughters (1-5 years old). The house was big enough, and the children really loved their ‘own part’ of the house: a cosy bedroom where they could create their own princess world. The domain of Mas Coumbel is wonderful: a very large pool with a view on the French countryside, a beautiful garden with several different corners where you can hide and relax. And above all: a huge backyard. After a couple of days, we discovered a trail in the garden where we could walk half an hour with the kids. They chased grasshoppers, and butterflies came sitting on their hands. Overall: we were impressed by the equipment. The barbecue, the pool, the internet: everything worked and was in good condition. For example: there are more than enough table tennis balls, and four decent paddles. Something you can’t say about every renting house in France. To conclude: in Mas Coumbel, you can be sure that everything will be alright. That’s a very nice feeling for a holiday.

What a wonderful home and setting for our 2017 holiday. The house is set in a lovely rural location about an hour from Toulouse and just outside the small town of Caylus which has some lovely boulangeries for great pain au chocolate, croissant and bread for breakfast and late lunch, and a few other small shops. A 25 minute or so drive takes you to Caussade where there are larger shops and supermarkets. The house itself is a great size with lovely inside and outside dining options and a great lounge for family gatherings and games and elder kids loved the annexed 4th bedroom! Everything you could wish for is provided, the kitchen is especially well equipped and we even managed to get our sons and their friends to cook a meal for everyone! The pool is magnificent and was one of the main reasons that our kids fell in love with the property. It’s larger than most and has lots of space around it allowing them to play a huge variety of games and generally have a great time. The separate games room was also a massive hit with our boys with table tennis tournaments galore!! The Manager of the property Jayne was great throughout and Pete the pool man was brilliant, recommending a lovely trip to Mimizan on the West coast! Thank you so much!Guest rating:
This is a beautifully restored old property – we felt at home as soon as we walked in. There was lots of space indoors, the beds were extremely comfortable, excellent bathrooms and the kitchen very well equipped and a pleasure to cook in. Outside there were lovely spaces to eat, relax and wander, as well as the fantastic pool – all with amazing views. This peaceful location was a perfect setting for a relaxing holiday in a very unspoilt part of France; we felt we were really immersed in the French lifestyle 🙂 There was lots to do without traveling far. Highly recommended.

We spent a lovely 2 weeks at Mas Coumbel. The house is well equipped and very roomy. The pool was one of the warmest we’d had which made a nice change! There’s no shallow end but the steps leading into it helped. There are also some nice siting areas outside which all get shade at different times of day. The house is very rural so you’ve no worries about disturbing the neighbours. The bedrooms were very roomy and the bathrooms were well equipped. The area is lovely, we even made a day trip to Carcassonne which was a bit of a trek but worth it.

We had a really wonderful time in Mas Coumbel. It was the perfect holiday: sunny weather, great house, refreshing pool and a garden where the butterflies came sitting on our hands. We’ve had the same kind of holidays before (family houses in France with pools) but I must say Mas Coumbel was absolutely the best. The house was big and clean with everything on hand. So, we all agreed, we will come back next year, because for us and the kids, it was a little paradise!Guest rating:
We stayed at Mas Coumbel in late May/early June 2016 and had the most fantastic holiday. The farmhouse has been lovingly restored by the owners to create a wonderful, spacious home set in attractive gardens with everything maintained to a high standard. The house has a well equipped family kitchen and large living room with four good sized bedrooms, There is a fantastic swimming pool for those hot lazy days and if the weather is inclement there is a well equipped games room with table tennis table. The garden is really well kept and when we stayed, there were beautiful orchids flowering in the wild flower meadow. Caylus is a lovely village close by with good local shops for croissant and a great butcher. For bigger shops there are larger market towns not far away. There are beautiful medieval towns to visit and kayaking close by. We would recommend Mas Coumbel to anyone looking for a relaxed holiday in a beautiful area of France.Guest rating:
