This charming house is situated in Villefranche-du-Perigord; a Bastide village in the Dordogne. The front door opens into the village with its restaurants, bakeries and various charming shops. The back door takes you to the huge garden, the swimming pool, and the countryside beyond. A true taste of the idyllic life awaits you. The house originates from the 13th century but has all the conveniences of modern life. In the garden are numerous fruit trees and a sun drenched terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside. An oasis from the turbulence of modern life, we are sure you will love it.
From the owners...
"We have owned this house for 20 years and have been renting it out very successfully for the past 18 years. Prior to purchasing this property we looked at many homes in the countryside around Villefranche-du-Perigord. Ultimately we decided to buy this house because of it's unique location on the edge of the village. This gives us, and anyone who rents the house, the opportunity to participate in daily village life. In addition to being within a few minutes walk from the local cafes, restaurants and shops, we have the joy of an unspoilt pastoral view over the wooded hills of the region."
The house is a good sized, fully renovated village house. The house is comfortable all year round. Cool in summer with its ancient stone walls and window shutters. Warm in winter with oil central heating and large open fire. All modern conveniences including dishwasher and broadband internet access. The property and pool are cleaned during each changeover day.
Please Note: We only accept children 10 years and over.

What a delightful Bastide house, full of charm and lyrical French rustique but well equipped & comfortable for all modern comforts. You will quickly get used to some squeaky floorboards that add to the charm of the cottage.
The pool is to die for in the heat of the French sun. An idyllic outlook, quiet and beautiful. A lovely way to while away the hours, drinking wine and eating lots of cheese & bread! The sounds in the evening of the frogs are lovely to hear, as is the sound of the crickets and the town bells during the day. Watch out for the large birds of prey that literally float above your head. (Binoculars on shelf in living room!)
We have thoroughly loved our stay here. The only problem being it is just not long enough!
Villefranche-du-Perigord is well situated for the Lot & the Dordogne - so much to see & explore if you don’t mind a bit of driving. A beautiful part of France, so full of history.
The village has everything you need & the French/locals are very friendly.
Thank you to Madame Ballety and the next door neighbour for being so friendly & helpful.
The recommendations for the restaurants are excellent but our favourites, and definitely worth a visit, are Le Caillou & La Recreation for a beautiful evening meal. La Petite Auberge is lovely for lunch.
Thank you to Michael & Julie for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage & we would love to come again.Guest rating:
We spent a fabulous week at this property in Villefranche du Perigord. The house had a great salt water pool which was perfect for cooling down in the hot weather, complete with sun loungers and parasols. The kitchen was well equipped with everything one needs and the village house was only a couple of minutes walk from a great little shop that sold everything from fresh fruit & veg to deli counter to good wine selection. The town is also graced with two bakers for the morning stroll to collect croissants.Guest rating:
This quintessential 13th century stone home is the perfect base to explore everything that the wonderful Dordogne region has to offer including fascinating medieval villages, lively food markets, extraordinary chateaux, world class wine, food, a plethora of eating options and so much more.
This comfortably appointed home is situated on the edge of the charming village of Villefranche-du-Perigord and only a 2 minute walk from the heart of the village, shops and cafes, yet it's very quiet with a private backyard and enormous sparkling pool. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with a sunny terrace overlooking the pool for al-fresco dining. Upstairs the bedrooms are light and bright with views of the surrounding countryside and the upstairs bathroom is shiny and new. You can spend days visiting so many beautiful villages and gardens nearby, each one a treat and retreat to the poolside area and terrace for respite from the glorious warm weather. The perfect spot for families, couples, and friends. I will be back.Guest rating:
We came for a peaceful week after a turbulent 18 months of Covid 19, and we found peace here. We had plans to explore the region but the house and pool were so quiet and relaxing, the weather perfect and all restaurants so close, we didn’t get back in the car from when we arrived to when we left. Beautiful sunsets & clear, starry nights completed our stay.
Thank you for a lovely stay.Guest rating:
We had an excellent stay. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. The combination of being right in town, with a lovely view of the countryside to the back is superb. Sitting on the terrasse looking out at that view was a very relaxing and peaceful way the spend an evening. It was great to be able to walk to the boulangerie in the morning. The internet access was an asset. Madame Ballety was very friendly and helpful as well. We would happily come again.Guest rating:
We had a wonderful time in the cozy authenticate house in the lively small vIllage Villefranche du Périgord. The views from the garden where beautiful. And it was so so quiet, except for a rooster calling from far far away. The swimming pool was great!! Though we visited France many times before we never had been to the Dordogne. It was a really pleasant surprise. Lots of quiet roads, small villages, lots of things to do and good places to eat.Guest rating:
What a lovely house and pool and garden. Thank you so much. The weather has been brilliant - apart from one day. Because we were so content there was no need for TV in the evening. We ate out every day - Beynac, Boulogne (twice), Villefranche (twice), Monpazier (brilliant market - even though it rained). We’ve had a very lazy time. Loving the insects - lizards, and back Redstart birds. Madame Ballety very helpful. We bought you a new pool thermometer - a whale named Willy. Poor Daffy Duck just kept sinking - he has a new role as a land thermometer having been found in the filters. No longer up to the job.
Thank you.
P.S. Loved the salt water pool.Guest rating:
We had a wonderful time exploring the Dordogne region and this lovely house was the perfect base to do so. It's situated on the edge of the charming village of Villefranche-du-Perigord and only a 2 minute walk from all the shops and cafes, yet it's very quiet with a private backyard and sparkling pool. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with a sunny terrace overlooking the pool for al-fresco dining. Upstairs the bedrooms are light and bright with views of the surrounding countryside and the upstairs bathroom is shiny and new. We spent our days visiting so many beautiful villages and gardens nearby, each one a treat. Two of our favourites were Le Château des Milandes with the fascinating Josephine Baker museum and the stunning Les Jardins de Marqueyssac where we hiked among the most extraordinary topiary and had a lovely lunch in the restaurant. And as we were there during the Rugby World Cup, I would have my early morning espresso at the Cafe De La Poste just up the street and watch the games with the locals. A perfect vacation.Guest rating:
Our family of four (2 adults and kids aged 10 & 8) stayed at this wonderful property in July 2019. The property is exactly as described. A cool, cosy and homely lounge (with UK TV!) and a lovely large kitchen (with very good utensils) link to a fantastic terrace and garden. The kids lived the pool and it was appreciated in the heat of the day. The garden was large and the view over the valley each day was mesmerising. Upstairs were two lovely bedrooms and a good bathroom. We were welcomed by a lovely local lady who made sure we were fully able to work the pool etc, and provided excellent advice as to local markets etc. The village was sleepy, attractive and very friendly. 2 great small super markets, a boulangerie and patisserie, tabac and butchers and a few cafes, bars, restaurants and a bookshop. Perfect and by the end of the week we became very fond of such lovely people and such a beautiful village. Don’t miss the fantastic Tuesday food market. Further afield the rivers of the Lot and Dordogne were a pleasant 40 min drive away with great swim spots and more touristy but beautiful attractions and sites. Don’t miss canoeing down the Dordogne, wine tasting in Cahors & Monpazier & Puy-L’Eveque.Guest rating:
We had a wonderful stay in this lovely house, beautiful views, great outdoor space with a good size pool which was very welcome as the weather was very hot during our stay. The village had everything you needed, with some good places to eat in a quiet location, there are lots of places to visit within a short drive the area and local people are fantastic we were sorry to leave and look forward to visiting again soon.Guest rating:
We absolutely loved our holiday in Villefranche du Perigord. Renting a place for a “dream holiday” is a counterbalance between excitement and risk - and I can say with absolute confidence that this place is no risk. The set-up was perfect. We loved the easy downstairs living, the kitchen was fantastically equipped to enjoy the spoils of our market purchases. The beautiful deck, looking out across the pool to the neighbouring countryside was just magic. All we heard were the birds and the dulcet tones of the village. The bedrooms were light and bright, but perfectly cool. Of course the pool was enjoyed - another bonus of the house. The bathroom is fresh and modern and a real attribute. A highlight for us was the village. Having spent the week driving around the area we found VdP to be absolutely the best place; it had all the mod-cons you’d want in terms of cafe, bar, supermarket and the most AMAZING boulangerie. After 2.5 weeks in France, I can say hands down this was the best bread and pastries we had all trip. The village wasn't overrun with tourists, just locals and we found the location was really convenient for day trips. The owners were easy to deal with an all the info we needed was provided prior. Hard to fault. 10/10.Guest rating:
After a week of hectic sightseeing in Paris, this was the perfect antidote; a peaceful hideaway in the beautiful Dordogne countryside. The house gives no hint of what lies beyond as it perfectly blends into this picturesque village. Once inside you’re treated to a panoramic view of wooded hills to the horizon, that’s if you can take your eyes off the very inviting pool. The sizable backyard is dotted with mature trees, (the figs were delicious), there’s a barbeque, a table on the terrace for outdoor dining, and pool loungers. Inside, you’ll find all the home comforts; a brilliantly equipped kitchen, spacious living room with TV and Wifi, a wonderful master bedroom with twin balconies, a luxuriously large shower, which also has its own view, and oodles of rustic charm. We loved it. You can shut out the world if you wish, or take part in village life. The locals are very welcoming and everything you need is a very short stroll away. Villefranche du Perigord is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding region and our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.Guest rating:
From the moment we arrived in Villefranche till we left, we had a wonderful holiday. We had every comfort in this traditional style house including wonderful French doors and shutters in the bedroom opening out to an uninterrupted view of the wooded slopes; not another dwelling in sight. There is a variety of places in the house and extensive garden to gaze, partake of delicious wine and eat the tempting local produce, depending on your mood and time of day. The outlook is rural and calming.
The unforgettable and exquisite pool is wonderful, so clean and clear and good to swim in and private; all to ourselves, everyday!
The local people were most helpful and welcoming and we explored the local countryside with great walks and of course cooled off in the pool afterwards.
There is easy and quiet driving to the Dordogne and other places of interest.
All in all a perfect holiday.Guest rating:
Pretty house, perfectly situated in historic village. Outstanding views of skies and valley from terrace and garden. Unbelievably calm and dark at night. Well-kept pool. Best equipped kitchen and best guest instructions we ever had on a holiday. Monika Berlin, GermanyGuest rating:
We stayed here for a week in June whilst en route to Spain. The house has everything you could possibly need , including a fabulous pool. The pool was very welcome as the weather was extremely hot for the entire week that we were here. The village is beautiful and again has everything you could possibly want - a butchers, two bakeries, two general shops and a number of restaurants that cater for all tastes. The surrounding villages host some wonderful markets that must be visited. If you are looking for a property for a quiet getaway, you need look no further. Definitely recommended.Guest rating:
We recently had a three week holiday in this accommodation . It was everything we were hoping for .The house is comfortable and well equipped. We often cooked and ate on the terrace rather than drag ourselves away from the view overlooking the beautiful countryside .But when we did summon the will to leave, the house is well situated for trips to lively markets, unbelievably pretty villages ,magnificent chateaux,11th century churches. We still had a list of things we didn't get to at the end of our holiday. The warm weather meant we could make full use of the pool which was meticulously maintained. The peace and charm of village life completely won us over.A world away from noisy city life. This one was a winner.Guest rating:
We had a wonderful week with fantastic weather. We enjoyed the markets at Prayssac, Cazals, and lunch at Bistro 2 in Montpazier. However, most of all we enjoyed relaxing at the gite, on the terrace and by the pool with the sounds and the sights of the surrounding countryside. The gite was very well appointed and was perfectly placed for walks in the local area, strolls to the local bakers and butchers and for local sightseeing. The village was very welcoming with quality local produce available. We've stayed in a number of different gites in the area and this was one we would return to without a doubt.Guest rating:
This house was perfect for our needs for a relaxing holiday. The house has all the modern facilities you could possibly wish for with thick stone walls which keep it nice and cool in the summer and a patio area outside the kitchen which leads to a large back garden, with BBQ and large saltwater pool. The Pool although not heated was the ideal temperature in the summer. There are two supermarkets can be found at Prayssac, (only 20mins drive away) and an excellent larger Leclerc just outside Cahors which is worth a visit. We found you could buy most daily provisions in Ville-Franche, which has excellent Butchers, 2 Bakers, 2 small supermarkets and grocers shop, along with cafes and a bar.We enjoyed visiting local towns and exploring the Lot / Dordogne area, coming home for a swim in the afternoon and BBQ each evening. There is also a very reasonably priced restaurant in the town, which did 3 course evening meals for just €16.Overall we would highly recommend this property as a perfect place to stay and explore this very picturesque part of France and I am sure we will return again in the future.Guest rating:
Found the property enchanting and the village and surrounding vicinity engaging. The house is exactly as described and although the weather was not too kind to us we found plenty to do, peace and quiet when we wanted nothing to do, and options to eat and drink within walking distance. (Le Petite Auberge was our favourite) The village residents were patient and helpful. The pace of life is slow with the local villages, markets and vine yards (Lot) easily accessible. On the owners recommendation and our own sampling we have brought a consignment of tasty Malbec home. We were moving on to Bordeaux and some Euro 2016 action so the peacefulness in this beautiful little village was much appreciated. Highly recommended.Guest rating:
Our first visit to this property and we loved it. Very comfortable accommodation with everything one could wish for including English TV. The pool is fabulous with gorgeous views and wonderful to relax by after a hard morning's sightseeing and marketing. We can thoroughly recommend.Guest rating:
Just as described...but better. This house was the perfect escape. Clean and tidy with all modern facilities. A large private back yard which encompassed fruit trees, gardens and a deck from the kitchen to enjoy the sunset with a barbecue and a glass of wine... and the perfect swimming pool. What could be more pleasant than enjoying the view of acres of treed landscape with perfect privacy. The historic village which has been preserved by the residents is a tribute to their restoration work. The people are friendly, and a real sense of community seems quite apparent. We enjoyed several markets in local villages and it appeared there were regular community events in our village. Chestnut festival and sep mushrooms in our time. There are many historic sites and Chateaux to visit..we enjoyed a day at Josephine Baker's Chateaux. Plenty of restaurants in the area offering local fare and wines. In all a great experience and a perfect place to enjoy the real rural France. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting the real taste of France in a well appointed village house, in an area untouched by modernity.Guest rating:
This is our second visit to 'Place des Cayres' and it once again provided a relaxing holiday in a lovely setting. The views from the patio over the beautiful pool are as good as we remembered. Villefranche is very well supplied with cafes and amenities so days go by without using the car. We enjoyed the market at nearby Prayssac, and St Circ Lapopie is really well worth a visit. Thank you Michael and JulieGuest rating:
Absolutely charming house in a beautiful medieval French village. The village feels truly authentic with a lovely market place with gothic archways. The house is mere minutes from the village centre, is very clean and comfortable and lovingly furnished. There are beautiful markets in the region selling wonderful local produce which we could turn into amazing dishes in the well equipped kitchen. Lastly, we were very lucky to get warm weather so the dips in the pool were a real treat!Guest rating:
We were very happy with our choice of Villefranche du Perigord as a base for our holidays in the region. The village is charming and quaint, but still with a real village feel to it - with 2 butchers, 2 bakers (one we preferred for the wonderful bread - our favourite: the villefanchoise - and one which did great cakes), restaurant/cafe and a traiteur. The house is beautiful and while central, has a lovely unobstructed view from the terrace and pool to nearby hills. The size was just nice for our needs, with a well equipped kitchen and a cosy sitting room with a fire place. Not that we needed the fire place in September, we were still enjoying the pool ! This was our first time renting and the owners (Michael & Julie) were very quick to respond answering all our questions, which gave us confidence to go ahead and book. Everything was seamless when we arrived as the caretaker (Mme. Ballaty) had arranged everything perfectly. All in all, a perfect holiday!Guest rating:
If you want to be immersed in mediaeval France, then this is the place to be. The owners have thought of everything to make this your home. The pool is excellent, the garden is huge, the kitchen is really well equipped, Madame Ballety is absolutely lovely, the village has bakeries, supermarkets, restaurants, and friendly people. Just about no-one speaks English, but then are you not trying to get away from it all for a fortnight? Why else would you go to the south of France? And everyone will muddle along with you, in a really helpful manner, if you try your best. We found it hard to find bike hire (or good, safe places to cycle). This has to be a big market opportunity the region has over-looked. (We asked in a Tourist office if we could cycle along the Dordogne (the view over it from where we stood was spectacular) and although they said "Yes..." they looked at us as if we had asked "Can we cycle through the slums and major industrial areas, during the night?" The region is lovely, the history is all around you, the pace is friendly and slow, and this accommodation is top-class.Guest rating:
We have very specific criteria for a holiday house...it has to be within walking distance of a variety of places to eat & drink so we don't have to drive every time we go out, it has to have it's own private swimming pool & be situated in a beautiful area with loads of walking & lots of interesting places to visit. This houses most definitely ticks all the boxes, we loved staying here & look forward to visiting again.Guest rating:
