Le Puits is one of two lovely holiday homes, the accommodation comprises:
- A large living/dining room with revealed stone walls and beams with a large flat screen high definition television and DVD player. There is also a stereo radio/CD system.
- Leading off this room is a doorway into a fully equipped modern kitchen including a gas cooker with grill and oven, microwave and fridge/freezer.
- Another door leads into a fully tiled shower room with a shower, washbasin and toilet.
- There is another door in the bathroom which is where the washing machine is.
- Upstairs, via a hardwood staircase, is a very large mezzanine with a Velux window, this space comprises a double bed, wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers. There is plenty room for a cot, which we can supply free of charge if required. We also have a highchair, if required.
You have exclusive use of a private swimming pool.
Perfectly situated on the Charente/Charente-Maritime border, within the magical triangle of Cognac, Saintes and St. Jean d'Angely, Les Bouleaux and Le Puits, as featured in the August 2016 issue of French Property News Magazine, are two beautifully renovated houses set in the heart of Cognac country surrounded by grapevines and sunflowers.
The house is on the edge of a small village called Les Vignes which is about 500 metres from the department border putting us just 15 minutes from the lovely town of Cognac in the Charente and just 5 minutes from the market town of Matha in the Charente-Maritime, which has all that you will need as far as shops, supermarkets, restaurants and banks are concerned. The Atlantic coast and its stunning sandy beaches are just 45 minutes away as is Angouleme in the opposite direction, with Futuroscope just a 90 minute drive north on the autoroute.

We have just returned from a really enjoyable week's stay at Le Puits. The property is beautifully clean and tidy and nicely equipped. Everything works perfectly and living there is very easy. We stayed in September and the weather was not suitable for the pool but it also looked very new and perfectly clean. It is located among many acres of grape vines in it's own (with the other property and the owners) very considerable and well kept grounds. Walking around the edges using Strava on my phone revealed it to be about 0.25 miles! You can sit outside in complete privacy as the properties are surrounded by hedges. It catches the sun in the afternoon and evening and is a very relaxing place to be. Although feeling quite remote when there, access to Cognac is very quick and we also made really interesting visits to Royan, Saintes and Angouleme. The owners are very friendly and helpful and allowed me to use one of the bikes kept for visitors to cycle around the quiet lanes and narrow roads through the grapevines. Having English television was also a plus when relaxing in the evening. All in all an excellent property to explore an interesting area of France.Guest rating:
We stayed here at the beginning of August for a very relaxing week. The gite has everything you could need and was very well equipped (including a comfortable sofa, which is very often not the case in our experience!). The owners were very friendly, and even arranged for us to meet the wine maker next door for a tasting (and subsequent purchase!) of all the local specialities. There is plenty to do in the area, both locally and further afield, and there is ample information about the area in the gite. Alternatively, the patio is a lovely sun trap for just relaxing with a glass of wine! A lovely property, which made for a great week away. Thank you!
