Cardenard is in "la France Profonde"; the property, situated at the end of its own lane, is surrounded by farmland about 4 miles north of the unspoiled village of Verfeil sur Seye. The aerial view in the gallery of photos shows that the property comprises the main house and a cottage with various "dependances". Cardenard is our second home - it is comfortably furnished and fully equipped. The main house accommodates up to 12 people and the cottage, which is not let separately, can accommodate 4 more.
On the upper floor of the main house there is:
- A twin bedded room,
- A double bedded room with a wash-hand basin,
- A further twin bedded room with a wash hand basin and a "dormitory" with a double bed and two single beds. There are further "put-u-up" beds and cots available.
- There is a bathroom with WC, basin and bath with shower above and
- A separate WC.
- All rooms have wardrobes or cupboards etc.
On the ground floor the front door is gained from steps up from the garden to
- A porch and into the entrance hall.
- There is large sitting room/salon with DVD and CD players and a wood burning stove; French windows lead to the balcony from which stairs go down to the swimming pool, sun terrace and vine-shaded pergola, where there is a table for at least 12 and a barbecue.
- There is a further double bedroom with a wash hand basin and next to it is
- Shower room and a separate WC.
- There is a study with books, DVD's and electronic keyboards.
On the lower ground floor is
- A the farmhouse kitchen. This is fully equipped with a gas/electric range-type cooker, "American" fridge/freezer, microwave oven and a dishwasher; all necessary cooking equipment and crockery, cutlery and glasses are available. There is a cool larder. The large table seats at least 12 people and there are a couple of armchairs. French windows open to steps up to the shaded pergola, sun terrace and swimming pool.
- There is a utility room with the washing machine and tumble drier and a further sink and fridge/freezer.
- There is a lower front door into the lower entrance hall with a work shop off it.
- There is a shower room with WC and a side passage leads to a side door to the garden, a further stone barbecue and the breakfast terrace.
The cottage across the grass on the other side of "le court" has
- An open ground floor with a "galley" kitchen with a large sink, cooker, fridge and dishwasher) and dining and sitting areas.
- On the first floor there are two bedrooms - one has a double bed and the other has two beds.
- The bathroom has a wash hand basin, WC and a bath with shower above.
The boundary between the communes of Verfeil sur Seye in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne and of Najac in Aveyron passes through the property. The house is in Verfeil and, on the other side of the court, the cottage, barns and the orchards are in Najac. Standing in a commanding position on the edge of the deep valley of the Baye, a small tiributary of the Aveyron, the house enjoys superb views over the valleys of both rivers, with les Montaignes Noires (and very occasionally les Pyrenees) in the distance.
The village of Verfeil has a very good bakery and general store, a garage and a cafe. St Antonin Noble Val, Villefranche de Rouergue, Cordes, Penne, Bruniquel and other historic towns and villages are within an hour's drive. Day's outings can be had to the splendid cities of Montauban, Albi, Toulouse, Cahors and Rodez.
The very attractive surrounding countryside generally comprises fields or forests (principally oak), exploring which may be done on foot with, in particular, peaceful walks down to and along the Baye. Exploring further afield by cycle has proved popular with enthusiasts. Outings on the Aveyron by canoe and kayak is available from St Antonin and elsewhere. There is a tennis court in Verfeil which is booked at the Mairie or the bakery.
