Originally dating back to the 1600's, this attractive domaine has been lovingly restored, and has been offered as a holiday home or gite since 2011. Perfect for large groups who want exclusive access to the heated pool and large private gardens, and yet it is only 4km from nearby Mirepoix.
Domaine de Pouroutounat is comprised of three buildings, plus a "ruin". The owners' 4 bedroomed home is on the west end of the property. Adjacent to that is the 6 bedroom Farmhouse, and on the east end of the property is the Grange Pierre, a three bedroom gite. In high season the Farmhouse and the Grange Pierre are rented as one property, aimed at larger groups. In the shoulder and low season, each property is available to rent individually.
With nine bedrooms across two adjoining properties, you will find plenty of space for everyone.
- Large indoor and outdoor dining areas are a perfect opportunity for your party to get together in the evening. Large range cookers provide plenty of space to cook for your party, or perhaps you would prefer to hire private caterers to provide the gastronomic delights!
- Elegantly furnished with luxury fittings, the property has something for everyone. Double, King, Super-King, twin and single bedrooms - and if you want to create a large bedroom for all the kids, we can make it happen. With a mix of ensuite and shared facilities, Domaine de Pouroutounat will delight the most discerning tastes.
The large heated pool and poolhouse are perfect for daytime or evening relaxation. With a wet-bar, two fridges and seating/dining for the entire party, the pool is the undoubted centre-point of the property. Lounges and umbrellas provide ample opportunity to relax and find some shade, and in the evening there is large built-in Bar-b-q for a relaxing al-fresco dinner.
Domaine de Pouroutounat has 7 acres of land for you to explore - but step outside the door and there is a nature reserve on the doorstep, with short or long walks, and fantastic views. The Pyrénées are only 25km away and the views from the hill behind the property are stunning - all the way to Andorra. You might even see a deer or a wild boar on your walk.
Nearby Mirepoix is a medieval town of just 3,500 people, but has a bustling café and restaurant scene in the summer. Numerous restaurants and bars are only five minutes away, and on Mondays there is an amazing market, thronging with locals and visitors alike.
It is impossible to escape the Cathar history to this area. Central to this is the city of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stunning architecture, lovingly restored, simply must be visited. Many Cathar castles and historic sites dot the landscape, from Monsegur to the imposing Peyrepertuse, and the sea is only 70 minutes drive away - Catlunya is within touching distance.

How to get to Domaine de Pouroutounat
On the D119 between Mirepoix and Carcassonne, about 4km from Mirepoix. When leaving Mirepoix, pass the turn to Castelnaudary on your left, and you will see the sign for Pouroutounat about 400m later on your right.
Toulouse Airport has connections to and from most of Europe. It is an hour and 10 minutes by car. Carcassonne airport has more limited connections, mainly with Ryanair, and is only 35 minutes away.
If you are flying, we strongly recommend hiring a car to get here.

Thank you for making our family holiday a wonderful experience. The house was ideally located and the grand children loved the pool, and many garden activities, and had wall to wall fun. Great running country and lovely to explore on the GR7 and local paths. It was our first time to the area, and Johns advice and tips made exploring easy. Mirepoix is picturesque. The configuration of the two houses worked perfectly for our needs. Thank you once again.
Guest rating:
A perfect location, a short distance from the beautiful medieval town of Mirepoix. A quiet, idyllic rural location that is looked after beautifully by the owners Jon and Vicky. The two properties are of a very high standard and are equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay and they provide all the kitchen equipment required to make large family meals. The bedrooms are large and have comfortable beds and high quality linen which is changed every week. The swimming pool is a real asset that is regularly cleaned and maintained and is in a beautiful setting, we regularly saw deer in the adjoining field and beautiful sunsets. There were lots of equipment provided such as table tennis, badminton, football nets and archery. The owners have excellent local knowledge and can provide advice on the best restaurants, which they are happy to book for you and the best places to visit and ensure that they do everything they can to make your stay a wonderful one. They provide excellent customer service and I recommend Domaine de Pouroutonat highly.

Stunning property in a beautiful location, perfect for groups of large families or friends. Both properties are very well equipped with everything you will need to have a wonderful holiday. Loads to do around the area locally and I would recommend the Pyrenees and Andorra definitely worth a visit. Jon and Vicki are incredible hosts and nothing is too much trouble, they have fantastic knowledge of the area and gave us some great recommendations for places to visit and restaurants. We had a party of 15 with age ranges from 6 to 79 and the properties catered for everyone brilliantly! Many happy memories of the lush pool and family dinners on the terrace in the evening. Thank you Jon and Vicki for making our special holiday so perfect!

Very pretty spacious family/group Gite. Wonderful surroundings, swimming pool and plenty of other activities. Jon and Vicky were helpful and welcoming. There's plenty to see and do in mirepoix. Exellent supermarket, bakeries, market day (on a Monday), boutiques and restaurants. We hired a car from Toulouse Airport, took around an hour (with stops on the way). Highly recommend staying here!!!

A lovely place to stay with friends and family. Extremely well equipped. Beautiful setting and fab pool with lots of outside space and activities. Inside was still beautifully cool with lots of choice of where to sit, eat etc. cycling routes in lower Pyrenees available for enthusiasts. Stunning 13th century town of Mirepoix is a must - beautiful town square. Really worth visiting. Carcasonne about 40 minutes away and again worth going to. Fantastic views and good walks. We really want to come again - our hosts were fantastic; available but discreet. An easy 5 star rating.

Domaine de Pouroutounat is a fantastic place for a family holiday. Thank you Jon and Vicky for providing us with a lovely house, and great pool for our family of 18. It was a special place for us to stay with our children and grandchildren......terrific location close to Mirepoix, Carcassonne and the swimming lakes and mountains of the Pyrenees. The 'professional' cyclists of the family really enjoyed the challenging early morning rides in the vicinity and we all enjoyed the late night family meals around the table.
Jon and Vicky were exceptional in their welcome; always available but never intrusive, and treated us as friends come to visit rather than clients. the facilities were first class; comfy beds, multiple bathrooms, numerous places for kids and adults to gather separately and together. The pool house provided necessary shade and drinks in the two fridges, and was the most popular place to meet.....one of the best family holidays we have had of the seven we have been on all over Europe in the last fifteen years!Guest rating:
