Set in the peaceful grounds of Chateau de La Prise is the Logis.
Originally home to the caretaker of the chateau, Logis de la Prise has been completely renovated to a very high standard yet still retains the period charm of a rural French cottage.
The cottage has
- Two bedrooms, the first of which is situated in the eaves of the building with an ensuite shower room and views to the west over the surrounding countryside and woodland. The second is located on the ground floor overlooking our pretty formal garden.
- Also on the ground floor is the modern family bathroom with its luxurious walk in drencher shower and separate bath.
- The remainder of the ground floor has been completely opened up and windows on three sides ensure a beautifully light and spacious living area with a fully equipped quality kitchen. An original fireplace with log burner surrounded by comfortable seating completes the picture.
The Logis also benefits from its own outside space, including a south facing seating area and a private garden with terrace. It should be noted, however, that there is no swimming pool available for guests of the Logis.
Guests at La Prise are well placed to take advantage of all the cultural, gastronomic and natural attractions the Poitou-Charentes area has to offer.
At La Prise itself, guests of the Logis benefit from the attactive gardens, woodland walks and excellent birdwatching, not to mention a full sized croquet lawn that they are welcome to try!
The countryside surrounding La Prise has many well signposted walks and mountain bike trails, taking in some of the lovely rural villages.
Other local attractions are the tranquil canals of the Marais Poitevin or 'Venice Vert' (Green Venice - pictured top right) and the excellent local Zoo (Zoodysee) in the forest at Chize.
Local towns include Surgeres with its tri-weekly covered market and walled chateau, and St Jean D'Angely with its bustling old streets, relaxing squares and stunning bell tower.
Also within easy striking distance is the historic city of La Rochelle (pictured bottom right). The stunning old port area, excellent seafood restaurants and the renowned aquarium are just a few of its many attractions.
Just off the coast of La Rochelle is the exclusive Ile de Re (reachable via a toll bridge) with sandy beaches and beautiful old fishing ports.
There are also safe beaches at Chatelaillon Plage (35mins) and slightly further afield at Royan.

How to get to Logis de La Prise
By Car/Ferry:
The most direct ferry routes are overnight to Caen or St Malo. From here there are good motorway links to Niort via Rennes and Nantes.
By Air:
Easyjet and Ryanair all run flights to La Rochelle from where you can hire a car and be with us in about 50 minutes.
By Train:
Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris and then TGV to Niort (Journey time around 6.5 hours). Niort has many car hire companies close to the station.
