Eymet is situated in the Périgord region, on the river Dropt.

The Bastide was founded in 1270, by Alphonse de Poitiers, Count of Toulouse and brother of Louis IX of France. The village is situated at the extreme south of the Department of Dordogne on the CD933 between Bergerac and Marmande, around 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of Bergerac, and around 100 kilometres (62 miles) east of Bordeaux.

The countryside around the town is very peaceful, with vineyards and small farms, sunflower fields, numerous chateaux and perfect for exploring by car or bike.

There is a weekly "farmer's" market all year round in on Thursday mornings and during the summer months a notural market on Tuesday evenings.

There are plenty of things to do in nearby Bergerac, from unique museums to wine tours. It is also an ideal base to explore the surrounding region, full of beautiful vineyards, rolling hills and idyllic riverside villages.  Bergerac has been proudly sporting its “Town and Region of Art and History” label for a number of years now.
