Stunning Farmhouse with Private Heated Pool.
Maison des Lilas is a beautiful, traditional Charentaise detached stone farmhouse with a private heated pool situated in the quiet hamlet of La Touche, near the village of Sonnac. The surrounding farmland features vineyards and fields of sunflowers. It is ideal for families, couples or for anyone wishing to experience a restful, relaxing retreat.
The house is just five minutes drive from the town of Matha, which has a good range of shops, supermarkets and a covered market. Within two minutes drive is the village of Sonnac with a bar, shop and bakery. Twenty minutes to the south is the city of Cognac, home to the world's leading Cognac Houses and the Romanesque city of Saintes is roughly half an hour's drive away.
The house is full of character and has quarry tiled floors, original stone fireplaces, exposed stone walls, oak beams and pale blue wooden shutters. To the front of the property is a large enclosed courtyard behind imposing wrought iron gates. The courtyard is planted with lavender and hollyhocks and houses a beautiful 8 x 4 metre heated private swimming pool with easy access via semi circular steps. Sun loungers are provided and there is a raised terrace adjacent to the pool with a dining table under the shade of a vine. The pool has underwater lighting for night-time swimming and an alarm to comply with French law. Adjacent to the pool is an open barn for shady parking which leads to the games room. The games room has table tennis, a darts board and bicycles for the use of clients, including three adults bicycles, a tag-along and child's bicycle. To the rear of the house is a pretty walled garden, BBQ area and a round table and chairs. The garden is planted with lavender and roses and is shaded by a trailing vine growing over an arched pergola.
The house is furnished throughout in a traditional style with French country furniture. The kitchen is furnished with free standing units and an armoire and is fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer.

Within one hour's drive are the smart resorts of La Rochelle and Royan, and the Atlantic coast beaches of La Grande Cote and La Cote Sauvage for those who like their beaches a little wilder. Royan has plenty of water sports facilities including windsurfing, jet skiing and sailing. Saint Georges de Didonne and Saint Palais sur Mer cater perfectly for families. The ancient walled city of La Rochelle has wonderful fish restaurants, a well-designed aquarium and several interesting museums. Aulnay de Saintogne is less than half an hour away and has a beautiful Romanesque church. Saint Savinien is a charming medieval town on the banks of the Charente river.
Cognac needs no introduction – home to the world's famous brandy houses it is a fascinating city. Tour the Cognac distilleries, take a ride on the little train around the cobbled streets, take a boat trip down the Charente river or visit the fabulous Francois 1er Park with its open air swimming pools and excellent children's playground.

2 wonderful weeks at this beautiful and charming gite. The house, grounds and pool are fabulous Sunshine on the garden for breakfast and over the pool all afternoon. So many stunning towns to explore; mediaeval architecture, markets with local produce, vineyards and cognac. It’s quiet and peaceful, perfect for families or a group of people who want to escape their city for a while. Clean and well equipped, with a big eat in kitchen. A fabulous bakery close by and a local shop for essentials. BlissGuest rating:
We can highly recommend a relaxing holiday in this lovely property in the scenic French countryside. There was ample room for our party and the accommodation was exactly as described. Detailed information and prompt communication from the owner made for a smooth reservation and stay. The superb pool, which has seen significant investment, and covered outdoor seating area, were a real hit as was the tranquil private garden for evening BBQs. Frequent trips to local towns proved more than enough excitement, we particularly enjoyed our time in Cognac and Saintes. A big shout out to Bernal and his wife, he looked after the pool superbly during our stay, it was spotless, and was happy to recommend places to visit, thank you, you are a real asset to any property owner and their guests.Guest rating:
Very spacious accommodation. Very private, peaceful and quiet. After 18 months of not getting away it felt magical!Guest rating:
My family enjoyed a wonderful 3 week holiday at Maison des Lilas. The property is very spacious and very well equipped. The pool is fantastic and was a real hit with our children in particular. We wanted a quiet, relaxing place to stay and Maison des Lilas provided exactly that!. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the surrounding area, enjoying the towns of Cognac and Saintes in particular. Communication from the owners was first class, responding quickly to any queries we had. Many thanks for an amazing holiday.Guest rating:
We loved the shaded terrace, and pool. Also the fact that you could have a toddler up early in the kitchen and no one else was disturbed. Weather was glorious, house is fabulous, attractions all around, so easy to rest, relax and also be a tourist.Guest rating:
We stayed for a week in July during the heatwave and had a truly wonderful holiday. The owners have retained all the original charm of this old farmhouse... exposed stone walls, ancient beams and quarry tiled floors and have added their own touches such as the funky art and a mix of French vintage finds and furnishings. The kitchen with its shabby chic armoire and excellent range of utensils was a real bonus. The sitting room has comfy, faux leather sofas and a pretty open fireplace. Bedrooms are light and airy and the two bathrooms are well equipped with good showers. We loved enjoying a glass of rosé by the gorgeous swimming pool but equally enjoyed the peace of the little walled garden where we had barbecues sitting out until late in the evening. Would highly recommend to both couples as a quiet retreat or for families.Guest rating:
Maison des Lilas is perfect for a family holiday in many ways. It delivers the tranquility of being located within the beautiful rural countryside whilst being totally self contained to keep little people safe………a double benefit for a relaxing holiday. In the house the range of bedrooms and two bathrooms are ample for a family and you could even invite a few friends. The kitchen will fit all the hungry mouths and the large salon is a great place for playing games, socialising or just flopping. An unexpected joy of the house is it's two outdoor rooms. The front area with outdoor pool, table and sunbathing area. The back garden is a delightful walled evening outdoor room for BBQ suppers partying and all that delicious french wine. We had a fabulous week here and are already booked to go again next year.Guest rating:
Madison des lilacs La Touche, near Sonnac Holiday review!! My family and I, two adults and two children stayed at this beautiful house for a week. We didn't want to leave, it's set in the most beautiful surroundings. The house itself is picturesque, something taken from a film. It was clean, plenty of room. Children loved it, having a pool was a huge bonus too! We will definitely return when we can. Local shops are not too far away. If you want something special this is the place. We would like to thank the owners for letting us stay at such a wonderful location. I would rate this holiday 5 stars.Guest rating:
