St Chinian (Herault)
St Chinian is located in Hérault in the Languedoc Roussillon region of France. It is the main village in this area of Herault and provides the name for the AOC wine produced by the local 20 villages. It is a popular, bustling village with numerous restaurants and all facilities. The large outdoor market is always busy throughout the year and very much the social meeting place for Sunday mornings.
On or near the main street of St Chinian there are six bar-restaurants as well as banks, butchers, bakeries, pharmacy, tourist office and even a tabac/newsagents which sells British Sunday papers.
As the centre for St Chinian wine (red and rose), there are numerous outlets to sample and buy the local appellation controllee. The market is very popular and there is a thriving trade in ready-cooked, takeaway chicken and paella for Sunday lunch. Many locals and tourists finish their shopping with a drink and perhaps a plate of oysters from the nearby seafood stall.
