Traditional Stone Villa with Magnificent Views
Villa La Cascade is a charming all en-suite cut stone villa located in the beautiful Languedoc region in the South of France. The villa is one of a small group of cut stone houses built in the traditional style around a lovely courtyard overlooking the pretty village of Durban and its medieval castle.
Enjoying a peaceful private garden this lovely house sleeps 6 adults in 3 en-suite double bedrooms with stunning views over the unspoilt countryside. Complete with private pool and magnificent secluded deck, Villa La Cascade is the perfect location for an idyllic holiday in this still undiscovered yet easily accessible part of Mediterranean France. Beautifully appointed to the highest standards and fully equipped with a every modern convenience, this is a perfect home from home in which to enjoy the unique pace and ambience of Languedoc.
A short drive from airports at Carcassonne, Perpignan, Toulouse and Montpellier, the surrounding area has a wealth of attractions. Located in the heart of the Corbieres, Villa La Cascade overlooks a range of beautiful hills that stretch north of the Spanish border and sweep inland from the Mediterranean. This is an area steeped in history and blessed with an almost perfect climate. Enjoying over 300 days of sunshine annually, the location benefits from long hot summers and brief, mild winters. Vineyards, ancient monasteries and medieval castles punctuate the landscape whilst the golden beaches of the Mediterranean are just a short drive away.
Villa La Cascade is one of a small number of houses recently completed overlooking the old village of Durban. The village is a typically southern French affair, with a café, supermarket, bank and pharmacy, and of course the local cave cooperative.
Accommodation
On the ground floor the villa comprises
- an entrance hall, fully equipped kitchen, sitting room, cellar, guest WC and two en-suite double bedrooms.
- The sitting room opens out onto a magnificent teak deck that surrounds the swimming pool.
- Adjacent is an outdoor kitchen complete with built in barbeque – just perfect for lazy wining and dining in the gorgeous surroundings.
At the far side of the pool area there is a table and chairs with wonderful views over the valley and vineyards below.
The upper floor consists of
- a further double bedroom again with en-suite shower room.
This is Cathar country – one of the most inspiring and dramatic landscapes in Europe. Located in the heart of the picturesque Corbieres hills, Villa La Cascade is just perfect for either an activity packed holiday or a relaxing getaway. Within a short distance there are the ancient monasteries at Lagrasse and Fontfroide, medieval castles at Queribus and Peyreprtuse, the historic walled city of Carcassonne and the beautiful Canal du Midi meandering through the countryside north of the hills. Nearby, the thriving market towns of Narbonne and Beziers provide a wide range of shops and services, whilst the city of Perpignan offers a vibrant mix of influences – more Catalan than French in atmosphere.
- Swimming and wind-surfing are available in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean at Cap Leucate, just 30 minutes away.
- The snowy peaks of the Pyrenees rise dramatically the south and a range of winter sports activities are available in ski resorts only a 2 hour drive from the villa.
- Golf, tennis, horse-riding and sailing are all within easy reach and the hills are criss-crossed by lovely walks for every level, all with magnificent views to the foothills of the Pyrenees.
- The African Reserve at Sigean is one of the most highly rated wildlife parks in Europe and is a 25 minute drive.
- For lovers of food and wine, there is a wide choice from local restaurants providing great food at reasonable prices to Michelin starred restaurants only a few minutes from the village. The rising star of Languedoc wine is the highlight for many visitors, numerous Chateau providing ample opportunities for degustation and purchase at value for money prices that barely do justice to the exceptional quality to be found in the region.
For us, this combination of holiday choices is why we love the area so much. Mix it with the gorgeous climate, the lovely house and the uniquely relaxed pace of life to be found in the South of France and you have all the ingredients for the perfect holiday.

Villa de Cascade is a hidden gem in the heart of the Languedoc and we cannot recommend a stay here highly enough. Our host, Valerie was very helpful in the run up to our trip and answered any questions we had quickly and had some great suggestions for vineyards to visit and where to eat. The scenery on the drive up to the house is stunning with a ruined church on the skyline across the cascade. The house is perched on top of a hill with very private gardens with magnificent uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains. The house benefits from being part of a small group of traditional houses in a private Domaine, yet with easy access to the village via a leisurely 5 minute walk by foot down the hill to the bakery, shops and pharmacy. The Villa is very stylish with traditional French decor throughout. The fit out is of a very high standard and the house was spotless with gorgeous linen and the fluffiest towels. The bedrooms are generous doubles with very comfy beds and all with their own en-suite and beautifully decorated. The terrace has a covered veranda perfect for reading in the shade and we had every meal outside here. The swimming pool is perfect for a cooling afternoon dip and a splash around. We arrived to find a bottle of local wine from Castelmaure from the Corbieres and a lovely welcome note. Every little thing has been considered from Smart TV to a docking station for our music and as someone who loved to cook we had everything we needed, even some great cookbooks left out for us. Valerie gave us some great suggestions for visiting in the area and we had a stunning lunch in the restaurant in the Abbaye de FontFroide and then a stroll through the Abbaye and gardens followed by a wine tasting. We visited Embres et Castelmaure winery, did a honey tasting over the hill and visited Narbonne, a beautiful town with great boutique shops, roman road ruins, cathedral and classic French cafes and restaurants. The African reserve in Sigean is a great day out too. For foodies, the 3 star Michelin restaurant just over the hill is out of this world. The scenery in the area is magnificent with great views and vineyards curling up the hill behind the house and we loved exploring the area by foot and car. We visited in mid-September and temperatures were mid to high 20s and the harvest was in full swing. This was our first time in the Languedoc and it certainly won’t be the last. We will definitely be back to Villa de Cascade, our hidden gem in the Languedoc.

Where can I begin... From the ease of booking with the owner to her real understanding with all our requirements this is a lovely person to deal with. The house was immaculate and very well situated and laid out. We liked the open plan kitchen/dining/sitting area which opened out onto the pool and patio. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows. Something so rare in France and Italy these days we tend to take our own. Not needed here. The garden was a joy, and so enjoyed sitting in the little "private area" with the view across the valley. The house was certainly very much home from home. The local super market stocked everything we needed and I enjoyed walking down to the bakers every morning for our bread and croissant. A brilliant holiday and looking forward to re-visiting.Guest rating:
What a lovely week we had. Reminded us of being in Provence, but without the crowds and inflated prices, and nearer the sea! AMAZING views from the villa terrace - absolutely loved it. Despite being in a small 'courtyard' of other villas, was very private and quiet. Fantastic wine and vineyards, lovely cycle rides, plenty of restaurants of all price brackets, near the midi canal and Carcassonne, beautiful walks and castles to visit, great coastline and lagoons. The villa itself was very well equipped and tastefully furnished, and for the keen chef, had all the implements and dishes you could ever need!
Three en-suite double bedrooms all tastefully furnished and stacks of wardrobe space. Utility room with extra fridge freezer and washing machine. Lovely covered outside dining area and BBQ.
Beautifully kept garden, with loads of lavender.Good WiFi /TV/sky for when you've had enough of the sun (and very useful if staying during Wimbledon week!!) Highly recommended!Guest rating:
