If you’re like us you’ll find it hard to spend your evenings anywhere else! There is ample garden furniture available for use on the terrace, the patio and by the pool, including three tables with chairs, sun loungers, various coffee tables.
The villa is situated on the edge of the charming mediaeval wine producing village of Autignac, one of the major villages of the Faugeres wine appellation (AOC). The village centre, with shops and café etc., is just a few minutes walk. For larger shops and an excellent supermarket, the town of Magalas is just a few minutes drive.
The villa overlooks numerous vineyards and the whole area is famous for its wine, with Autignac being very close to several other excellent wine appellations, including Saint Chinian and Minervois, as well as being part of Faugeres. There are numerous local wineries that are only too pleased to spend time to introduce you to their produce.
Autignac is very well situated for every kind of activity. The vast choice of sandy Mediterranean beaches are just 30 minutes drive away, including Marseillan Plage and Serignan Plage and the fashionable resorts of Sete and Cap d`Agde. The beaches range from very busy, offering water sports, beach front sea food cafes and restaurants and night life, to almost deserted. A short distance to the west lies the beautiful Orb Valley with the spectacular town of Roquebrun.
Languedoc’s diversity caters for all tastes, from mountaineering to wind surfing, from bird watching to sunbathing, from canoeing the rapids to diving. The fascinating medieval towns of Beziers (famous for its flower market on Fridays and the annual “Feria”), Pezenas (with its wonderful Saturday market) and the African Wildlife Reserve at Sigean are just a short distance away. There are numbers of mediaeval towns nearby and as it is an area that has suffered a turbulent history there are a wealth of historical sites to explore, including the magnificent Abbeys of Frontfroide and Lagrasse, the Cathar castles in Peyrepertuse and Queribus and the fortified town of Carcasonne. Inland there are many opportunities for hill walking amongst astounding scenery, the grottes of Clamouse, Deveze and Demoiselles and Lake Salagou for fresh water swimming and water sports.
Also nearby is the picturesque Canal du Midi, featured in the TV series “Rick Stein’s French Odyssey”, which passes by fascinating countryside and has beautiful flat walks and cycle rides along its towpaths.
Just outside the village lies the impressive ‘Chateau de Grezan’ – a superb chateau hidden by vineyards and trees which was until recently owned by the Lanson Champagne family. Here you’ll find a very fine wine cave. Also nearby are the Paul Ricard caves in Bessan and the museum and caves of Noilly Prat in the pretty harbour side village of Marseillan.
In addition to the possibilities mentioned above and of course just chilling around the pool, here are a few other local activities of which we are aware.
- Tennis. There is a tennis court in the village which we believe can be hired by visiting the Marie.
- Cycling. Bike hire and advice on cycle touring is available in the neighbouring village of St. Genies. Visit VeloRoo.com
- Painting. Watercolour tuition is availble in the pretty nearby village of Pouzolles from Englishman Simon Roberts. Visit painting-in-france.com
- Hill Walking. There are a number of excellent walks close to the village and many more in the hills to the north. For those interested in serious walking we would recommend the book Walking in the Languedoc by John Cross.
- Canoing. There are several canoeing centres on the river Orb and also further afield to the north on the Herault. Not far from the villa is the centre at Reals.

We received excellent instructions from Phil prior to our holiday which made the house easy to find and gave us lots of information about the village and the area.
We were warmly welcomed and Phil was kind enough to help us with groceries prior to our late arrival to ensure we had something to eat during our first evening and morning.
The house is wonderfully and comfortably furnished, and the high quality air conditioning system keeps guests cool during the day and warm on cooler nights.
The appliances and bathroom facilities, throughout the house, were all of top quality.
We particularly looked for a property with a terrace - the terrace at Couche du Soleil was exactly what we had hoped for - spacious and comfortable, with a superb view.
The pool at the house was amongst the best we've found as it's heated when necessary, and the sunbeds, umbrellas and tables next to the pool were ideal.
Phil and his 'pool guy' make sure that the pool is spotlessly clean and inviting for guests.
There are two BBQ options for guests. We found the large, movable, circular one just right for us, but there's a larger, static one for families.
Although we didn't find time to use it, there's an excellent games room in the house basement.
The house is situated in Autignac. We found the shops [Aldi and Intermarche] at about 10 minutes drive away were really good and had everything we wanted.
Phil and his wife Patty offer their guests excellent accomodation and are on hand if guests need any help or advice.
In summary, we'd highly recommend the house and would love to return.Guest rating:
What a great holiday we have had and what a beautiful property it is. It was just perfect for our family and we all got the rest we were needing. The facilities at the house were great - really well equipped. The view is just stunning and we loved watching the sun going down and then looking at the stars - my son's girlfriend is studying Astrophysics so she gave us a tour of the stars and we saw the international space station passing - amazing! I'm sure we'll be back in the future.

We enjoyed a wonderful week here during the last week of August (2 adults and 3 late teens). The property is perfectly situated with stunning views and not overlooked. There is so much more to the villa then the already impressive photographs can portray. It gives a feeling of space and comfort which makes it feel immediately like a home from home. Everything you may ever need is provided. The area surrounding the villa is beautiful and wonderful to explore ranging from quaint medieval towns to sandy beaches and busy bustling cities. There really is something for everyone and you really do have the best of both worlds; the tranquility of the villa and the busier towns and beach life never further than a short car journey away. The local people are very friendly too. Impressive also is the genuinely friendly and helpful communication that you receive from Phil and Patsy. First class customer service. I would highly recommend staying here for a wonderful holiday and long lasting happy memories.Guest rating:
We had a great week in August at Couche du Soleil, the villa was very spacious lots of room for everyone to spread out and do their own thing, the heated pool was fabulous and the views from the large terrace were outstanding. The area has plenty to offer, we went canoeing at Roquebrun, visited the Nine locks of Fonseranes on the Canal du Midi at Beziers, and explored little villages as well as a trip to the coast. Autignac is a lovely little village to explore and we often walked the paths in front of the villa. Unfortunately we didn't see the sun for 3 days but that didn't stop us from having a wonderful time, our ages ranged from 23 to 64 and we all agreed it was a success. Phil and Patsy were excellent to deal with and they had thought of everything at the villa, we couldn't fault it at all.Guest rating:
We had a great week in this fabulous villa in June. The accommodation is very well presented and equipped, clean and comfortable. The panoramic view from the terrace is stunning, the pool area is just perfect. If like us you like to get out and about there are so many interesting places to visit. We went to St Guilham le Desert quaint old village, Clemont d' Herault on market day and Aiges Mortes, a fabulous old fortified town on the way towards the Camargue, where we saw the famous white horses and flamingos. Phil and Patsy have thought of everything you could possibly want or need for a very enjoyable holiday. We have travelled extensively throughout France over the 5 or 6 years and have never wanted to have a return stay in any of the properties until now!..... We have already booked for 2 weeks next year,Guest rating:
Merci encore!Guest rating:
We had a fabulous two weeks holiday in this well-equipped villa. Phill & Pat were very helpful with any questions we had and the correspondence was prompt and friendly. The villa is set in a stunning location with panoramic views across the vineyards. The villa and Pool are very well maintained. We liked how Phil & Pat have thought of everything you could possibly need in and around the villa, from the essential items you would have in your pantry to a small sewing kit, even a cool box, and rucksack for those days at the beach. After a busy day site seeing the large pool was extremely welcoming and with us being a group of 5 adults we all found our own peaceful corner to relax read a book or just have a little doze. My wife and I particularly enjoyed the tranquility of the terrace early in the morning with a coffee and fresh baguette and again in evening watching the stunning sunsets with a glass of local wine. We all truly had a wonderful stay, thank you Phil and Pat.

This was one of our best, if not the best, experience we've had with holiday villas over the years. Everything was perfect with the villa - every comfort, extremely well maintained and we would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. Loved the view from the terrace and the atmosphere in the local village, with its bar/café. Lots to see locally and we particularly liked Roquebrun, Pezenas, Meze and Marseillan.
Guest rating:
This is a lovely villa in a beautiful location with a great pool and a fantastic panorama from the terrace. Pat and Phil were excellent hosts and the rooms were clean and well maintained. The village of Autignac is lovely with just one bar in the main square (great pizzas and wine served from underneath the counter, brilliant), a boulangerie an epecerie and a tiny supermarket. What more could a man want? Overall, an excellent experience and we would love to return very soon.

This is a repeat visit for me and I decided to come back as I knew it would be relaxing and care free. The villa is spacious, well organised, excellently equipped and the alterations made since my previous stay are amazing - doors straight onto a sun terrace from the bedroom are a lovely addition. The pool is always perfect for a "cool off" dip and beautifully maintained. More than enough to do (even just in the villa) come rain or shine but if you want to venture out you are less than 30 mins from some lovely beaches and historic villages. Of course, this part of France is very much about the wine and Autignac is a wine producing village so there is always something going on, albeit at a pace of life quite in keeping with the surroundings. Wander around the village, say hello to some of the locals and visitors alike. Well worth a visit and a great chance to really experience rural France. Enjoy!

This is a splendid villa 20km or so in land from Béziers. We stayed for 2 weeks and barely left for the first week as we spent our time with our 4 kids by the magnificent pool (which was at a perfect refreshing temperature in the August sunshine) or on the terrace that overlooks the beautiful Languedoc countryside with superb view and amazing sunsets. The pool is equipped with night lights both in and around, and swimming under the stars at night was an absolute pleasure. The basement games room was also much used by all of us throughout our stay and there was a selection of books and DVDs as well as UK Freeview and French TVs channels. There is plenty to do locally, canoeing at Roquebrun was fantastic fun and naturally our kids enjoyed the beaches. There are numerous vineyards in the area and reasonably priced good quality french meals in Béziers and numerous other local towns. The owners seemed to have covered everything and the villa was very well equipped. We would not hesitate to recommend the Couche de Soleil and have absolutely nothing negative to say about the place. Phil was a pleasure to deal with and made it all very easy. A very memorable family holiday - a no-brainer to give 5 stars from the Craigs!

We had a fabulous holiday with our friends and four children all under 4. From the moment I enquired about availability Phil and Pat gave very prompt replies to my emails and answered all my questions very thoroughly; even down to sharing their travel directions and tips from Dunkirk! We have stayed in many villas and by far this one was the best equipt, the kitchen had everything and there were plenty of toys and equipment required for children (booster seat, bed bumper, travel cot, travel system etc) The new en suites are beautifully done and the showers were very powerful. The beds were very comfortable. The pool was a really nice temperature and perfect for young children with the steps and the shallow end and the outdoor toilet and shower was useful too! Everything has been thought of by Phil and Pat. The safety gates sectioning off the pool from the upstairs verandah give complete peace of mind for parents and no stairs inside the villa are a real bonus too. The most memorable part of our holiday would have to be the views from the villa and the stunning sunsets. We enjoyed walking through the village (10mins stroll) to visit the restaurant and the local park. Our favourite place to visit was Roquebrun, which has a wonderful swimming lake and very good restaurants. Thank you Phil and Pat for a holiday we can't stop talking about and will remember forever.
Guest rating:
The villa was perfect. It had everything we needed and more. We were a group of 6 adults and a baby, yet everybody had enough space and privacy it was great. The villa itself is massive with comfortable bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are ensuite and the new showers are amazing. The kitchen has everything you need to cater for large families and the fridge freezer is great with the crushed ice machine. We spent every evening outside on the terrace cooking on the bbq which is a great way to dine. Amazing views, sunsets and everybody around the table. The house owners Phil and Pat are so helpful and easy to contact if you have any questions, however, there is a house book with everything in it that you could possibly need. Not only does it explain where things are in the house and how things work, it also has information about places to visit. We would get the book out at breakfast and decide where we would go for the day. For a couple of days, we stayed in at the villa and made the most of the heated swimming pool. The whole grouped loved it so much that within a few days of returning home we booked for next year which I am already looking forward too!

We have just returned from the most wonderful 2 week stay. We had mixed weather, some lovely warm days and some cloudy but warm days with light rain showers.
We have stayed in many villas in France and we could not fault this one at all. The house is very spacious and very well equipped, every detail has been thought of.
Even though we were holidaying in early Spring we were able to enjoy BBQ'ing and eating out on the patio and lounging on the new terrace during the day.
The pool is an absolute treat, the pool was heated to 24degrees by the time we arrived and we swam every day with our 2 children....even in the spitting rain!
We were the 1st guests to arrive following the addition of the 2 en-suite shower rooms, bedroom patio doors and terrace. The finish of these is 2nd to none and they make the house even more perfect.
The village of Autignac is lovely with a nice wee tabac, boulangerie and bar. A 5 minute drive finds you in Magalas with 2 supermarkets and local amenities.
We enjoyed day trips and shopping in Beziers and we spent a great day at the market in Narbonne. On our 1 very wet day we took a drive north to the Grotte de Clamous, this was a fantastic day out which the kids loved.
We are keen golfers, so tested out the local courses whilst there, we found the best of the courses to be the Championship course at Cap d'Agde....they also do a lovely lunch! The 9 hole course at Lamalou le Bains was also a fun course to play they also have a good driving range, which is very reasonably priced and children are made to feel very welcome.
From the start of our booking until the end of our holiday we received the best of care from Phil and Pat, we would recommend this villa to friends and family, and we can't wait to visit again!
